Chasing Mercy by Stacy Claflin @growwithstac *excerpts and reveal*

Chasing Mercy

The summer after graduation should have been the most exciting time of Mercy’s life.

Instead, on the way to an exciting overseas trip, she barely survives an accident that kills the rest of her family. As soon as she’s released from the hospital, a creepy hooded figure with black skinny jeans begins to chase her.

At home, Mercy experiences other ghostly encounters. Kit, her neighbor who happens to run a paranormal blog, thinks that her brush with death has made her more sensitive to life on the other side. She discovers that the creepy hooded figure is holding her dad’s ghost captive so she enlists the help of Kit to rescue her dad from the ghost who’s chasing her.

Chasing Mercy is now available!

Excerpt #1

Something caught my eye at the edge of my line of sight. I turned my head slightly and looked to the side as far as I could. There was a guy standing by a wall with a black hoodie pulled up over his head. I couldn’t see his face because the hood covered it almost completely. He was wearing black skinny jeans and black shoes as well—were those Converse?

Even though he was in all black, he clearly didn’t fit in at the funeral. Nobody else acted as if they even saw him. I felt as though he was staring directly at me. I couldn’t see his eyes, so I didn’t know for sure, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that he was watching me.

I looked back up toward the service and tried to listen again. One of my uncles was sharing some stories with tear-filled laughter. I recognized the story that he was sharing at that moment and smiled at the memory. My heart ached at the loss.

My feeling of being watched remained. I looked out of the corner of my eye again and saw that guy was still standing by the wall, this time facing me directly. Couldn’t anyone else see him?

Chills ran through me from my head to my toes. All that the creepy guy needed was a sickle, and he could be the Grim Reaper. My heart stopped at the thought.

Could he actually be a spirit coming after me? Was he mad that I’d escaped, and lived through the accident? My heart sped up, and soon it was the only thing I could hear.

I couldn’t take it any longer. I stopped looking at him from out of the corner of my eye and turned my head to face him. I still couldn’t see his face, but he nodded his hooded head at me.

The blood drained from my face and I turned to the front again. He was staring at me. There was no question about it now. Keeping my head forward, I looked at him from out of the corner of my eye again.

I nearly jumped out my seat. Now he was standing at opposite side of the pew, staring right at me. He was practically touching the woman sitting at the other end of the pew in front of it, but she didn’t notice. He was so close that if she had seen him, she definitely would have moved away. Nobody else paid him any attention either.

My heart raced even faster as I considered my options.

About the Author

Some may consider me a jack of all trades, but I consider myself well rounded.

I’ve waitressed, styled hair, answered phones and, most recently, worked full time as mom to my two beautiful little boys.

Then there was this book…

Everyone and their brother started talking about this book series titled Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James.  I didn’t really pay attention to the craze at first, since I wasn’t a big reader- okay, I didn’t read at all.  But curiosity got the best of me, so I downloaded it to my kindle.

I was immediately hooked. I read the whole series in three days.  Yes, three books in three days.

I kept finding all these great books that I HAD to read (just ask my credit card!).

Then I started hearing voices. Voices that turned into stories; stories that were begging to get out of my head.

I started writing them down on scraps of paper. Then I transferred them to my computer. Before I knew it,  Planning on Forever was born.

The voices in my head are still talking, so I’m still writing.

The Rogue’s Reluctant Rose by Daphne du Bois *review* @msdaphnedubois

Book Review

Miss Araminta Barrington, must make a sacrifice and marry for convenience. Scary thought right there. A little quirk was the names Jasper was cool but Araminta got me and every time I saw her name I called he Ara, I thought it was a cool choice. Being a old General Hospital Fan I always loved the Barrington’s so that was a plus for me. She is going to do what she must to save her family, make the ultimate sacrifice. So she has to get Sir Timothy to propose to her. Sir Timothy Stanton is very rich and well, she has feelings of remorse.

Can she use him and deceive him? there is a lot of guilt through this entire troublesome choice. Mostly because he is a good man. Things go along smooth until….enter..Jasper Devereaux, the scandalous Marquis of Chestleton, Sounds yummy to me. Does he go after what he really wants? What compels him to pursue her at all costs is a really interesting tale! I don’t know if giving in and having someone will wash you of a feeling. I think Jasper was, I repeat, WAS under this assumption.

Araminta knows that she must not be caught. If anyone sees her and Jasper together her plans are sure to be ruined. The level of angst, in this genre is not too common. I think the author had the plot and subplot set up in a very YA type of style. There is a certain incident that forces them together. I won’t say how this changes things, but read it and find out. OH MY it was a good one! I say grab it up!

Image of Daphne du Bois

Daphne has always had a passion for literature and history and one day it occurred to her: what better way to use her English Literature degree than to write about Regency romps and romance? She hasn’t looked back since. Admittedly, her addiction to all things Jane Austen from a very young age had probably somewhat informed her choice of subject matter…

Daphne has stacks of notebooks full of stories that still need to be written, which she insists on bringing with her when she moves around the world (she’s done this a lot!). She likes her books full of romance, adventure, witty repartee and a dash of silly humour. When Daphne isn’t writing, she can be found painting, picnicking, reading and listening to all sorts of exciting music.

The Purple Heart by Christie A.C.Gucker @ChristieAGucker @Windswept333

TPH

As an Army psychologist, Sydney Porter has heard her share of horror stories.  The job she does is very interesting. I loved the way the author had a certain flair for bringing the veterans  their need, and the after life of a service member to the front burner. We think about these people all of the time, but do we understand what after service life is? NO I sure didn’t and I feel like this was an eye opener for me. So Cheryl and Sydney work together. Sydney deals with the after-service part and Cheryl deals with vets who have passed away. Either way the jobs they do are very difficult. They are extremely close friends. Gina is Cheryl’s partner and their love for Sydney stems from her acceptance. I think on IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia) Today (May 17)! it is important to bring out this aspect of the book. Cheryl and Gina had parents who did not accept them or their partners, Sydney did. This was a strong bond through routines, friendships and support. While I really loved Aiden and Sydney I hate to say Gina and Cheryl were equal in the running for my fave characters. You have to read it to get their personalities and little quips like “the husband, oh which one are you” and they all laughed.

When the “battle-scarred” Aiden becomes her only assignment for the week, Sydney gets a strange feeling for him, fate, destiny, something not of this world. The chemistry between her and Sergeant Aiden Thane is amazing. At first I was like “too much too fast”, but then OUCH! It gets seriously serious!

Sydney begins to question what her feelings mean. The secrets are dished out in a few small doses. Learn about Sydney, her family along with Aiden and his. SO worth the read. The book was fabulous for romance, suspense and a dose of reality. The reality part will bring you to tears. It was poignant, meaningful, and very well written! Go grab it up now!

Welcome to the South – where the tea is sweet and the accents are sweeter. This Southern way of life is all Charlie has ever known. It’s not until she loses the only person who pushed her to break free of the Southern Belle mold that she starts living the life she needs and not the life her parents forced on her.

Jhett has lived on the edge for as long as he could remember – constantly teetering back and forth between being a rock star and living a normal life. His rebellious and sometimes arrogant attitude is known to get him into trouble, especially with the girls who hang on his every move.

Charlie never thought that a trip to pack up her brother’s apartment would leave her feeling even more unsettled about the grainy details of her brother’s death. Her quest for information leads her straight to his old hangout and into arms of Jhett, who suspiciously knows more about her situation than he ever should.

Only a few questions remain – Can you trust someone based on their word alone? And if you make a promise, how far will you go to keep it?

About The Author

Sarah Ashley Jones was raised in San Diego, California, but currently wrangles her husband and four dogs in Clarksville, Tennessee. When she’s not writing she works in a pottery studio and comes home covered in paint on a daily basis. She has a slightly unhealthy obsession with cupcakes and chapstick. She is an eternal optimist and can often be found dancing and singing to music at any given time. It’s rare to see her not smiling or laughing, but if you do, just bring her a cupcake and it will cheer her up.

Promise Me This is her first novel and is a story that weaseled its way into her heart and wouldn’t leave her alone until she typed it up on the computer. She already is hard at work on ideas for her next book and hopes that the characters never stop coming to her. Her huge imagination was always in overdrive as a child and now she is beyond excited to put it to good use as an adult. She plans to write as long as she has stories that need to be told.

Drew Evans is a winner. Handsome and arrogant, he makes multi-million dollar business deals and seduces New York’s most beautiful women with just a smile. He has loyal friends and an indulgent family. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed?

He’ll tell you he has the flu.

But we all know that’s not really true.

Katherine Brooks is brilliant, beautiful and ambitious. She refuses to let anything – or anyone – derail her path to success. When Kate is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father’s investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy’s life is thrown into a tailspin. The professional competition she brings is unnerving, his attraction to her is distracting, his failure to entice her into his bed is exasperating.

Then, just when Drew is on the cusp of having everything he wants, his overblown confidence threatens to ruin it all. Will he be able untangle his feelings of lust and tenderness, frustration and fulfillment? Will he rise to the most important challenge of his life?

Can Drew Evans win at love?

Tangled is not your mother’s romance novel. It is an outrageous, passionate, witty narrative about a man who knows a lot about women…just not as much as he thinks he knows. As he tells his story, Drew learns the one thing he never wanted in life, is the only thing he can’t live without.
