Another Saturday Night and I Ain’t Got No Body by Jennie Marts‏ @JennieMarts

Another Saturday Night and I Ain't Got No Body

I just finished this book. It reminded me of more of a romantic comedy with a few zany ladies thrown in. There were parts that were serious, but basically a light and fluffy read. The dating trip for Sunny was comical.  I enjoyed her neighbors and her book club friends. The Pleasant Valley Page Turners Book Club can easily be a series and I think it should! The cutest thing was her friends were not cookie cutter friends. her neighbor was a lot older and sort of off her rocker, but Sunny really cared for Edna. The mystery that was in the forefront was a missing neighbor.

The book was fun to read and I think my romantic comedy fans would enjoy it.  For a debut I think the author has shown that she is worthy and the book can be a series or stand alone.

About Jennie

Jennie Marts

I was born in Manhattan, Kansas and spent my childhood moving back and forth between Kansas and Colorado. Constantly being the new kid at school taught me the skill of walking into any room and making a connection with someone in it. The first rule of starting a new school is to make at least one friend before lunch so you don’t have to eat alone. I graduated high school in Summit County, Colorado’s ski central and moved to Fort Collins where I attended Colorado State University.

The first day of college, I met the man who would make all my dreams come true. We got married, graduated college, and started our life adventure that took us from the mighty Missouri River of Fort Benton, Montana to the base of Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Along the way, we had two amazing boys, a goldfish named Fred and three dogs, one of which inspired the thong-eating golden retriever in my book.

I am involved in several writing groups and enjoy networking with other writers and learning everything I can about the craft of writing. I have been an avid reader my entire life and love stories that combine romance, suspense, and comedy. I love to make people laugh and my novel, Another Saturday Night and I Ain’t Got No Body, is my effort to give readers a good story that makes them root for the heroine, sigh at the charming hero, thrill at the love scenes and once in a while, laugh out loud.

Torn Together

Why does growing up have to be so difficult?

I honestly cant say enough good things about this book. I was so very lucky to meet the author and when I read the book I was fell in love. Mostly with the characters and the way they were written. It is a very emotional book and the main topic is recovery from loss. Whether you have gone through a loss such as the passing of a parent or a relative, you will be inspired by Daly English. Her explanation of her name is given and it is her Mother maiden name. A lot of people ask and she tells them it rhymes with tally. I had to add that I thought it was cute. We meet Daly at a crossroads. she lost her Dad almost ten years ago and she is trying to decide what she does after her Associate’s Degree is finished.

Take the journey with Daly as she bounces back from a breakup, tries to understand Laine (her Mother who she calls Laine) and lets love find her.

Sometimes in life there are ups and downs and what Daly goes through is pretty tough for such a young girl. When she meets Kashi, she is sort of intrigued and then he re-appears. He is so special you will love him, his sayings and wisdom. His family in India is just so entertaining, as was Daly and her approach to his background, lifestyle and family customs.

I think this is a MUST read!. I felt like I knew all of the characters and it honestly touched me. The bonus is they will stay with you for a while I am sure. At the beginning of each chapter there is a drawing by Daly and a great quote. I loved them and made so many Kindle Hi-lights. I will post more in the next couple of days. get ready for me to shout from the highest about how good this was.

Totally recommend it and give it a very inspiring 5*

Paranoid Contracts by Gordon Kenz @GordonKenz

paranoid 519OWKyZ04L._SL500_SS130_
I really enjoyed this book. The way it was written made it and divided into 5 different parts. My favorite part was seeing things through the private detectives thought process. So Paranoid Contract were put together from a variety of different cases. I like the cheating spouse parts.  You can learn how various cases are sorted out and watched. I always enjoy detective novels so this was a perfect one for me. Being a fan of these types on books I will of course always rate them higher, because it is my opinion.
The  life of a private eye seems juicy and scandalous so Cerys and her team had me captivated! I would like a book all about celebrities and their exploits. Cerys got some ideas and input from Jock, her husband adding another element especially when he punked people. When a victim decided to give her a publishing contract, I was thinking “yes”!!  How juicy would that be! When the clients and their targets realized they were set up really put the icing on the cake. This could without a doubt become a great series. I can see a few more books written the same way. We could have business partners, wives and husbands, and their point of views too.

About the author:
Gordon Kenz is a lecturer, photographer, farmer, psychologist and private detective. He was inspired to write by the large number of apparently true stories he hears of incidents that initially appear to be difficult to believe. With a bit of vision though and further investigation a different picture often emerges.
Twitter @gordonkenz

Book Description

Publication Date: November 30, 2012
The detective agency set up by Cerys encompassed her perception of amoral and legal enquiries taken up on behalf of her clients. However those persons investigated found themselves in situations which involved rather more of a deception than a perception. How moral was the work? How could it be justified to smash personal relationships, to break apart marriages, to destroy careers or to feed the greed of managers at the expense of their colleagues? To what lengths would such investigations go and where would the work of the agency finally end up? When staff started to break the rules of engagement, the whole of the agency began its inevitable collapse. Cerys was no longer in control and methods used were clearly not as she had started. Individual and poorly planned investigations brought an end to her careful planning and outcomes rested on poorer levels of work. This in turn led to a financial downturn in the profitability of her agency. Where would it all end?

But tonight, he will not call Amelia to him. Tonight, another man will step into her world to claim her. Tonight, Amelia’s shattering reality will crumble – and disappear into the Dreamscape…along with her freedom.

When Amelia dreams tonight, her nightmare becomes her new world where Seth is her captor and anything is possible…except escape. Seth needs Amelia to break the curse that binds him to the Dreamscape. He must convince her that she was made to free him, that she was made to join him.

For if he fails, he will never escape his prison, and he will lose Earth to the Netherworld where the evil Erobos wait to consume the human realm and everything in it. If he fails, Seth will lose the one thing that matters to him: Amelia.

Author Bio:
I grew up daydreaming about fairytales, and my love for discovering new worlds has never died. I am not one of those writers who always knew I would write. I thought that was what other people did until one day a few years ago, I took a challenge from a friend and typed my first words. My journey has been wonderful, and I cannot imagine a day where I would ever give up writing now. My love for reading is what fueled my imagination in the first place and still does. When I am not writing or reading, I am enjoying family time with my husband and two children. We live in a quiet community under the Wellsville mountains in Utah, and I am so thankful for the rich life I have been blessed with.

First to Find (Caching Out, #1) by Morgan C. Talbot @rapublishing @MorganCTalbot

First to Find (Caching Out, #1)

Review:

Well this was a new sort of book for me. I really enjoyed it once I got into it. At first I was scared it was a little too technical for me and I was a little intimidated. The main character Margarita Williams escaped death at a young age. It seems like there is a dark cloud looming over her all the time. She never really forgot how close she came to death. Margarita discovers someone is killing fellow geocachers.

Learning about this sort of a past time is really interesting. I had no idea, like I am sure many people do, what the actual geocaching meant. Margarita and Bindi her best friend set out to find the guilty. Bindi is hilarious if not for the fact that she has a super power, but it is her unbelievable sense of smell. That itself is enough to get you hooked. They really start the adventure to help a friend who is accused of stealing. It is the remedy for Bindi to get over her husband who left her when they got to the US from Australia. I mean really who can’t laugh at a super nose? Does Margarita solve the puzzle? Can she learn about love again? Read it!

Together, Margarita and Bindi need to solve the puzzle.  The story was unique as was the little humorous bits thrown in. I would totally recommend this book not only for mystery sleuths but for techies.

Chaos Theories by Stephen H Banks

Chaos Theories

Editorial Reviews

Review

“When I read a book, I look for two things. I want to be captivated by strong writing and I want to be entertained. Chaos Theories manages both.”  – Nick Wale,  Novel Ideas

My review

I enjoyed this book. The very likable  Jim Parish is going to work and starts to have an awful day. There is a puddle, he is wet, then bam a dead body. Aside from the happenings, it is apparent the Jim has OCD. Picture Howie Mandell catching a body or getting wet by a puddle. Three things happen for a reason? bad luck? I was  by the private eye aspect too. There are what seem to be random events that change lives.  He then becomes involved with the mother of the girl he caught. They sort of share a connection. Maya is a an oddball of  a character, she never answers questions and is long-winded in any explanation. That made the thrilling event a little better in my opinion.

It will keep you guessing. It is an unusually different type of  thriller that explores the chaos theory. The Chaos Theory is based on mathematical principle.   I love discovering Indie authors and I think we all need to look beyond publishers a little more often.

Shifting Dreams: A Cambio Springs Mystery by Elizabeth Hunter @E__Hunter

shifting dreams

Excerpt
Caleb blinked and looked around. He could hear singing. Old songs he’d heard as a child at his grandmother’s feet. He must have been truly exhausted, because he could have sworn he heard Mary Yazzie’s voice and his Uncle Raymond’s low laugh. The smell of a bonfire and fry bread. He shook his head to clear it. No one would know the old songs here. The wind gusted again, and a black slash in the rocks beckoned him from the corner of his eye.
Seven springs… He saw six, where was the seventh?
The old songs rose on the breeze and Caleb turned toward them. His feet moved of their own volition as he approached the black void in the canyon wall. It was a cave cut into the rocks. As he drew closer, he heard a shuffling in the bushes and a silver animal darted in front of him.
He was Mah-ih, ‘he-who-roams-about’ to his grandmother’s people. The large coyote paused in the path, then turned and looked at Caleb. His pelt was silver in the moonlight, his ears large and tilted toward him. Caleb walked toward the animal, but it did not bolt. The coyote walked a little farther down the path, then paused to look at him again. Caleb followed.
The animal darted under a fence that Caleb hopped over. Then there was another path, this one not marked by gravel or concrete.
It twisted over the rocks and through the brush, leading him toward the void. The coyote ran upon it, darting forward before he paused and turned, waiting for Caleb to follow. He felt the wind at the back of his legs and he pressed on. The moon hid behind the canyon walls as he made his way into the darkness. Pulling a flashlight from his pocket, he switched it on and looked around as he entered the cave.

Book Description:
Somedays Jena Crowe just can’t get a break. Work at the diner never ends, her two boys are bundles of energy, and she’s pretty sure her oldest is about to shift into something furry or feathery. Added to that, changes seem to be coming to the tiny town of Cambio Springs, big changes that not everyone in the isolated town of shapeshifters is thrilled about. Caleb Gilbert was looking for change, and the quiet desert town seemed just the ticket for a more peaceful life. He never counted on violence finding him, nor could he have predicted just how crazy his new life would become. When murder rocks their small community, Caleb and Jena will have to work together. And when the new Chief of Police isn’t put off by any of her usual defenses, Jena may be faced with the most frightening change of all: lowering the defenses around her carefully guarded heart. Shifting Dreams is the first novel in Cambio Springs, the new paranormal romance series from Elizabeth Hunter, author of the best-selling Elemental Mysteries.
