New Roses in Ecuador will be released February 1st and I got an advanced copy so I know it is worthy of 5 stars!  To be honest I have an author crush on Heather. I will explain it by saying the first book I read that she wrote was Devil in Disguise and it was absolutely amazing. My review is here.

This is from Jailbird (another must read)

I read her other book and was blown away. I have a few hundred Kindle books TBR, so I got this one and here is a Goodreads snip and a review from Sylvain Renard (OMG) what an honor and what a great review it was.

Neena Allen’s life didn’t exactly follow the path she’d anticipated. She couldn’t have seen the twists and turns that would lead her to wander the woods, presumed dead by the prison guards. When Neena starts a new life…

Nothing Serious by Barbara Morgenroth with Tourz de Codex @BarbMorgenroth

First I will say that this book was cute, adorable, and had a clean sort of heartwarming effect. I liked the way that the main character, Paige, was so electronic that she didn’t know how to talk to people. I think in this day and age we all forget the telephone and going to meet someone and use face time, skype and instant message instead. When she had enough Paige Elliot unplugged her NYC life and opened a magazine and picked the place that she could afford to live. She follows her heart to Kanah Springs and encounters real people, makes real friends, finds Jonathan Macklin and follows through on her dream of owning a store.

The book is very PG rated and will appeal to a great audience. I may even label it chick lit aside from contemporary romance, but that is my opinion. You should check out the author below she has several other books.Click on the giveaway button on my sidebar to WIN a copy!

About the Author:-

I was born in New York City and but now live somewhere else. By now, I think of myself as a country girl and know more about gardening and animals than how to ride the subway.
Starting my career by writing books, (and I did the cover photography for my first two published by Atheneum so continuing to do the covers to my new books is predictable), I was actually aiming at the small screen. Television seemed like the perfect place for me even if I had no clue how to get there. Life is funny and often presents opportunities. Through a neighbor, I wound up getting an introduction to a lower honcho at ABC and an audition to write for them. My hopes were more than dashed, they were crushed, disintegrated, evaporated, demolished when ABC couldn’t find a place for me on General Hospital. (No Luke and Laura in my future!) To ease the crushing disappointment, I wrote In Real Life I’m Just Kate about a 17 year old girl who becomes a star on a soap opera. That became an open sesame moment and shortly thereafter I became the last headwriter for NBC’s daytime serial, The Doctors, where I was ordered by the network to kill Alec Baldwin, shooting him not once but twice. With two different guns. From different directions.
When I left television, I became involved in antiques and auctions.
This provided many experiences and ideas for stories.
Nothing Serious is owes much to that time in my life—complete sets of Playboy magazine from issue 1 stacked next to an Art Deco bedroom set with portraits from the 1800’s leaning up against the armoire.  It’s always possible to find a treasure and Paige found one in Jonathan.

Goodbye Emily by Michael Murphy

This book was very touching! It is basically about how you CAN fall for someone you never would have expected. Along with this love, the bonds of friendship are so strong and descriptive it is touching. When these three friends sort of pair off and Walt sort of gets stuck with Emily  he isn’t  thrilled but by the next day he is waist deep in love. The friends that you have that you are lucky enough to keep form such a bond they are physically separated but still manage to always be connected. Here are some of my fave quotes.

“Let’s make a vow and shake on it.” I offered my right hand and placed Emily’s on top of mine. Josh set a hand on Emily’s and Buck placed his on top of Josh’s. We repeated the sequence. With eight hands together, I nodded toward the stage. “Let’s promise each other one day we’ll come back to Woodstock.”

Tears slid down my face as I sorted through the guilt over the pain I caused Buck and Josh, my deception of Cloe and my loss of Emily.

“The truest characters of ignorance are vanity and pride and arrogance.” Culpepper’s pride seemed shaken, but he faced us and crossed both arms, giving his best Mussolini pose. “There are still a number of other charges pending—possession of marijuana, illegal flight …” “Don’t forget speeding,” I added. District Attorney Houston stepped forward. (This is where I was laughing so hard because they must have looked so pathetic)

“Those occurred within my jurisdiction, Mr. Culpepper. Sullivan County has dropped all charges, including an assault complaint filed and withdrawn by one Darrell Thompson.” Culpepper took another look out the window at the media circus that waited, as if imagining what might have been. “I might consider a plea bargain.” Buck sneered. “Fuck your plea deal.” “No plea bargain,” Cloe insisted. “All charges get dropped or I go out to the parking lot and explain to those reporters how you pursued a case against a Lawrenceville businessman and decorated veteran and a retired Milton College professor with permission to take an Alzheimer’s patient back to Woodstock.” Culpepper let out a ragged sigh of resignation. “You win, Ms. Ellington. This time.” He locked eyes with me. “I watched my grandfather die of Alzheimer’s, Mr. Ellington.

Review:

Sylvain Reynard added it *****
A writer can learn a lot about how to write a strong female lead from Heather Huffman. This is the second of her books that I’ve read and I enjoyed it as I enjoyed the first. The redemptive themes of “Throwaway” are also found here but with different twists and different challenges. The female lead is a jailbird – an escaped convict in the southern midwest of the U.S. She undertakes a journey – one might call it a pilgrimage – encountering both good and nasty as she comes to terms with her past, her family and her crime. This could have been a dark tale of despair, but in Mrs. Huffman’s hands the light is ever present. You’ll enjoy this story and when you visit the author’s website and discover how she provides her work for free to encourage readers to support worthy organizations such as WorldVision, you’ll enjoy the story even more

Pretty Amy (Pretty Amy #1) by @LisaBurstein

Amy is fine living in the shadows of beautiful Lila and uber-cool Cassie, because at least she’s somewhat beautiful and uber-cool by association. But when the girls get stood up for prom and take matters into their own hands—earning them a night in jail outfitted in satin, stilettos, and Spanx — Amy discovers even a prom spent in handcuffs might be better than the humiliating “rehabilitation techniques” now filling up her summer. Even worse, with Lila and Cassie parentally banned, Amy feels like she has nothing — like she is nothing.

Navigating unlikely alliances with her new coworker, two very different boys, and possibly even her parents, Amy struggles to decide if it’s worth being a best friend when it makes you a public enemy. Bringing readers along on an often hilarious and heartwarming journey, Amy finds that maybe getting a life only happens once you think your life is over.

I love a fluffy romance, this was not fluffy. It was like nothing I have read. One minute I am laughing at Alex and her BFF Harlow and then poof I am sad.

As Jay and Bennie dig deeper into the world of electronic secrets, they find that the simple video has far-reaching implications that not only threaten their lives, but society as they know it. Tracing the mysterious coalition responsible leads them on an inexorable journey that will change them forever.”

This was a great read just based on the thrilling effects. I love when I am able to get a book and it is a smart book. The author has tons of network and computer knowledge and it shows. There is a lot of technical things going on within the book that is sort of scary. Like  the thought of someone always watching and cameras are everywhere. You think about it and it gets a bit creepy. The best aspect is the two main characters, Jay and Bennie. They know each other inside and out. They enjoy wi-fi hunting and raves. Maybe they can be considered social outcasts, but, they have hobbies that use their brains and I appreciated that.  Bennie’s got a disability and is in a wheelchair. He has a super handicap van and boasts in 24 seconds he can get from behind the wheel to out the door. He timed himself.
That made me like him more.

The theme, characters, and overall plot created a page turner. Upload has a lot of tech stuff but it combines it with the plot to make it all the more interesting. If you like thrillers you’ll want to read this one.
