This book is or can be a stand alone. What I say is DON’T read it before the others. I know you will get invested in the characters but trust me, it will mean so much more if you read the others. It starts with A Song for Julia. Brilliant author! Brilliant writing skills, story telling, characters and scenes. Don’t short yourself the pleasure of Julia, Crank and then Dylan and Alex. All the Thompson Sisters are screaming to be heard, read and enjoyed. The dialogue was so tough and I am not going to run through the story or give a breakdown. Read the blurb and lets get to the story….
I have strong opinions about Ray and what he went through. So here is my straight no nonsense opinion. I think maybe he should have just walked away. I know what he saw was wrong. I know what they all bonded and decided to make a pact over was no right, morally or legally. I just wanted him to get therapy and pray. I thought he deserved peace and sleep without nightmares. Just as Dylan had troubles, he and Ray had a strong bond and they both gave so much. When the book starts and you know that it is an out of body type of experience I see Ray as the best angel God created.
The author’s writing about loved ones and war is compelling to say the least. There is a lot to say about how we treat injured vets from any service background. Every single emotion written was stellar! He captured the thoughts and inner fears of service men and woman all over.
Taking the emotional ride was worth it. I care deeply about the entire Thompson clan. I think Adelina and her story need to be told too. She suffers from mental illness and is secretive about it. I need to know what her issue is. I hate not knowing. I also want to know about Andrea. Why she is with Grandma in Spain. I am greedy and I need more. It is a shame to deprive us of more! In fact I will demand it. I want to know Carrie’s life. Julia and Crank. Crank’s brother has a story too. Ill be clinging to hope for more. I need to get into these characters heads.

I will say that it was phenomenal and I don’t know a living soul who wouldn’t fall in love with the author and his style.
