Betty Shreffler is a self-proclaimed nerd and nature enthusiast obsessed with folklore, photography, writing, reading, movies, board games, hiking, gardening and spending time with her husband and five fur babies. Not necessarily in that exact order though. During her outdoor adventures she’s been face to face with an alligator, a bear and a coyote, making for some of the most memorable experiences of her life. She loves to capture and share the world’s beauty through the lens of her beloved Nikon camera. Her work experience has been diverse from working as a Ranger for the National Park Service to management positions in Fortune 500 companies. She’s lived in four different states and moved homes twelve times. She received a BA in organizational management and minor in sociology, although her heart has always belonged to writing and photography. Growing up, she read romance or supernatural novels and jotted down poems and short stories to express her emotions and alleviate the characters’ voices in her head. Not much has changed, only now her stories are lengthier and her characters more interesting.

“Mother, reader, storyteller – ME Carter never set out to write books. She lives in Texas with her four children, Mary, Elizabeth, Carter and Bug, who sadly was born long after her pen name was created, and will probably need extensive therapy because of it.”
Two people once lost.

Title: Never Hold Back (First Responders #2)
Author: J.A. Essen
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: November 16, 2016

Loss.
We all have to live through it.
We all have to figure out how to move past it and continue to live.
Rachel – Spoiled, little blonde rich girl with no grip on the real world. No grip until an accident puts her in a public hospital with ‘real world’ people. When the officer that shows up to take her statement turns out to be the hottest man she’s ever laid eyes on, Rachel is pulled into his life and her world is put on its head.
Zander moved to California four years ago to get past the greatest loss in his life. Love was not something he thought he would ever feel again… or that he wanted to feel again. Little did he know that his world would be turned upside down by a pretty little blonde in a hospital bed.
But what happens when loss threatens to take everything you hold dear from you for a second time?
You fight. You fight with every ounce of your being to save that which matters most to you.
Will Zander and Rachel get their happily ever after?

“Miss Upton, I think I have everything I need for now. Here’s my card. ” My fingers linger on hers slightly longer than professional courtesy permits, but at the moment, professional thoughts are not what is running through my head. Leaning into Rachel I whisper, “My personal cell is on the back.” Taking a step back from the bed, I continue, “Call me if you need anything.”
Turning around, I thank Mr. and Mrs. Upton for their time and tell them I will keep them apprised of the investigation. The gossiping and giggling coming from the room put a smile on my face and I know I left the impression I was going for.
The warm California air smacks me in the face like a heated hand as I exit the hospital, breaking my daydream of what I hope is to come when Rachel heals and is finally able to leave the hospital. Am I jumping ahead of myself? Sure. But I’m also that damn confident that I left her more feverish than her injuries.
My cell phone chirps from my pocket as I reach the squad car. Settling in and placing the iPad on the dock, I retrieve it to see who is bothering me while I’m at work. Nearly all of my friends are other cops, or guys from the gym, and they pretty well know my schedule too. The number is unfamiliar, but I swipe across to bring up the text anyways:
So, you said if I need anything, right? Well, how about a sponge bath Officer BB? 😉
I’ll be thinking about those gorgeous eyes and sexy ass when I sleep later. ~R
“Holy shit!” The words come out of my mouth before I even realize I’ve said them. Damn this girl is forward. Yep, definitely going to have fun with this one when she heals.
Back at the station, it’s the same grind as any other day. Fill out the pages upon pages of information on this MVC. The problem is, what should’ve taken me about an hour has now turned into over two. My mind keeps wandering back to that damn text message from Rachel. Plus, I keep wondering what ‘Officer BB’ stands for? Whatever it is, I don’t care. So long as I get to have some fun with her. My kind of fun.
“Zander!” Jeff, one of the rookies pops me on the back of the head, “So you gonna come toss a few back with us, or are you too busy off in la-la land?” It’s Friday night and there’s a small group of us that always hit the bar after work for beers and babes.
I haven’t responded all day to the text and am not sure if I should. Turning the cell over in my hand so there’s no eaves dropping, I gather the rest of my stuff. “Yeah, man, definitely. I need to clear my head of some shit, anyways.”
Tomorrow is an off day for me, so I grab a ride with Jeff, knowing full well that I plan on drinking heavily and won’t be in any condition to drive. With a little luck, I’ll grab some little cutie at the bar and be at her place tonight anyways. I’ve got Yellow Cab on speed dial for my morning getaway.
Round after round of drinks, the bar seems to just get louder and louder. The other four guys already have their diversions for the night and have been giving me hell about the two I’ve already turned away. It’s not that they weren’t hot as hell, far from it actually. I just can’t seem to get my head in the game as I’d rather have it in between Rachel’s legs. Fuck she’s got me messed up.
Pulling the cell from my pocket, I pull up her text and start typing a response:
I don’t know about a sponge bath, but I’d sure as hell like to read you your rights and then handcuff you… to my bed, and bang you like a screen door in a hurricane until your toes curl and you’re screaming my name.
I press ‘send’ and then put it back in my pocket.
“Who the hell you texting, man?” Jeff, being his normal damn self just can’t keep his nose in his own business.
“Your mama. Just setting up a little cougar action for later!”
He flips me off, “Fuck you, man.” He quit drinking about an hour ago and I see the redhead shift off his lap as he moves. “I don’t know what’s gotten into you, but I know what I’m getting into here in about fifteen minutes.” He smacks her on the ass and turns around, leaving our group.
“I think we’re going to get out of here as well, Zander.” The other guys all push back away from the table and leave with their arms wrapped around their ‘good-times’ for this weekend, leaving me quite drunk, and alone. Definitely not the ending I had seen coming.
Grabbing my shit, I pay off the rest of my tab and head outside to grab a cab. Alone on a Friday night. Well this is a new one for your Zander.
Thank God the cabbie was not one of those chat-you-up on the way home kind. Those guys just piss me the fuck off when I’m this sloshed. Stripping out of my clothes, my cell drops to the floor and as I pick it up, my thumb activates the screen.
“What the fuck?” There’s a missed message. Probably one of the guys sending me a shot of the girl he’s screwing just to get at my hackles. Upon opening the screen up, my eyes widen when I see it’s a response from Rachel. It’s a selfie of her perky-as-fuck tits pushed together and the response:
You promise?

I’m 35 and live in Texas where I run a restaurant 5 days a week. I have been married to my amazing wife for going on 12 years and have two great little boys who keep us on our toes. I started writing last year after my wife, Author Marie James, had been doing so for a year. I enjoyed writing short stories in middle school and high school, so I thought I’d give it a whirl. After reading her books, along with three of my other favorite authors, MNever, CJ Roberts, and JA Huss, I began writing romance and erotica.
I have a total of 12 novellas planned right now in 4 different series. Some Rom-Com, some sports romance, and definitely some KINK! Just a heads up when reading though:

Despite having lived in my new duplex for over two weeks, I still had yet to unpack most of my things, or get my own furniture. A couple nights before, in an attempt to tire myself out, I had picked three boxes to unpack. One of the boxes was filled with photographs, and the other two contained various vestiges from my life when my family was whole: porcelain figurines Mama had picked out on our various trips to Disneyland, doo-wop and standards recorded on vinyl, and assorted signage and décor from my parent’s restaurant. I’d also found a couple Barbie dolls still in their boxes from when I was younger. I had never hopped on the Barbie doll train, but I knew a certain five-year-old who might have, so I had put the records and the Barbies in a bag and placed them in my office, intending on giving them to Luke the next time I saw him. I thought they might like them. What I didn’t expect was the hostile look he was giving me.
He took three quick strides toward me. “Let me make something perfectly clear to you, Duchess. Lily and I are not some charity case. We don’t need you donating your unwanted things because you feel sorry for us.” He shoved the bag into my arms.
“You think I’m giving these to you because I feel sorry for you?”
“Yeah, and we don’t need your pity.”
I threw the bag down on the desk. “You know what, Luke? You’re a real asshole sometimes.”
“Just calling a spade a spade.”
“Well, I’m just calling an asshole an asshole.”
We stared at each other with our faces just inches apart and I swallowed hard. His chest heaved and when his eyes dipped to my mouth, I wet my lips with my tongue, suddenly feeling like I’d been chewing on sandpaper. His arms were braced along the edge of the desk, caging me in, and I could smell the sweet hint of mint on his breath.
“I don’t want your things. There’s a reason I live the way I do, so just leave it the fuck alone.” He turned to leave, but I reached out, my fingers touching his forearm, begging him to wait.
“I-I’m sorry,” I stammered. “I was just trying to be nice. I just wanted to do something nice for you and Lily.”
His head was bowed and his back remained turned toward me, but I knew my words had dented his armor, even if for only a moment. “Why?”
“What do you mean why?”
He whirled around and pinned me with a glare. “I mean, why bother? Since I’ve met you, I’ve given you no indication that I want to be your friend or get to know you better, and yet, you keep trying.” He took a step toward me. “Why?”
The air was thick with tension and I could feel it like static, rousing every cell in my body. His deep grey irises seared through my soul as he searched my face for an answer.
“Because,” I said quietly, “I know what it’s like. I know how grief can consume you until there’s nothing left. I know what it feels like to push everyone away because it’s easier than allowing people in and risking losing them, too, but I was lucky in that I had people who stuck by me even when I was a complete nightmare to be around. They pushed me to talk to them, even when I had nothing to say.” I paused, my heart thrashing violently in my chest. “But you? From what I can tell, Luke, you don’t have that, and that’s a damn shame because as much as you try to only show people what you want to show them, I see past that. I see the man you really are when you hold your little girl in your arms. I see the kindness buried deep in your heart. You didn’t have to offer to help me with Mama, but you did. So yeah, I keep trying, and that’s not going to change because you may not feel like you’re worth it, but I—”
He cut me off with a kiss. His right hand reached out and wrapped around my waist, jerking me toward him until I was pressed hard against his body. His mouth came down on mine with such intensity, I could feel every ounce of pain, grief, and desire he’d kept locked tight within him. A low rumble in his throat urged my lips open and when his tongue swept along my bottom lip, a soft moan escaped me. I placed one hand to the back of his neck, pressing myself into him, needing to be closer. He gripped me tighter as the heat of our kiss deepened, making me dizzy with need. In that moment, I could feel him opening his heart to me. His left hand moved to my cheek and he used his thumb to tilt my head back.
He controlled the moment.
He controlled every movement.
He was the puppeteer and I was his marionette, bending and twisting to his will. And I let him. Maybe it was because he had spent so much time feeling out of control and he needed just one second where he didn’t feel so lost. Maybe I let him because for a brief instant in time I remembered what desire felt like. Maybe this was what we both needed, two broken people yearning for a respite from our pain and finding it in each other.
He alternated between letting his tongue tease me with long languid strokes and nipping at my bottom lip with his teeth, sending a heady ripple of lust all the way through my core. My hands slipped beneath the edge of his shirt, touching the hard ridges of his stomach. His eyes shot open and he tore himself away from me. Our chests heaved synchronously to the beat of our wounded hearts, and his eyes were filled with fear.
“Ashlynn,” he said quietly.
“Yes,” I responded, already knowing what he was about to say.
“I’m sorry. This was a terrible mistake.”
He ran his hand over his jaw and walked out the door, leaving me with nothing but the sweet taste of him on my lips.

Author: Kylie Hillman
Genre: MC Romance

Brotherhood before blood.
It’s that simple.
Until, the brotherhood betrays blood…
On the surface, the Black Shamrocks MC is exactly what an outlaw motorcycle club should be.
Unapologetically brutal. Unquestionably ruthless. Unwaveringly loyal.
The brotherhood appears rock solid, allied and impenetrable. Their various blood ties only serve as a reminder of the generations of kinship that came before them.
Dig a little deeper and the illusion begins to shatter.
Beneath a well-cultivated facade of unity, old tensions simmer and new alliances are created. Game plans are being put into action. Legacies are being secured. Deals with the devil are being made.
While these betrayals are being executed with cold efficiency, a new love is born. It’s a love that those undermining the club never saw coming. It’s a love that threatens to derail the upcoming coup. It’s a love that could unite them all and stop evil in its tracks if it’s allowed to prosper.
When those closest to you are plotting your downfall, is it possible for love to conquer all? If the war needed to defeat those responsible could cost you a loved one, would you be willing to pay the price? Unfortunately, the answers don’t actually matter anymore…
Because, ready or not, the Black Shamrocks MC is about to be engulfed by BLOOD & BETRAYAL.
