There are of course some characters carried over from book 1. I really enjoyed book one and this is a spin off, not necessarily a sequel but dont be cheated read book 1. Ava Sterling is tough! I loved her attitude at the bar when she first meets Declan. Of course it is sort of fate when they meet. She never works on Thursday, but he is always there on Thursday. Secretly she has watched him on the video monitor, but in the bar, she is cool as a cucumber in a salad. There is a great buildup to her reveal. I didn’t see it coming at all!

She is focused on her goals and does her best to resist Declan. Oh gosh he is hottie! What a line he gives her over and over. The cutest parts of his dialogue were when he couldnt figure why she wasnt bowed at his feet. I loved it! I thought the character of Declan was written really good. He was not extreme in his fighting career but there was a lot of discipline in that aspect of his life. He lacked discipline in everything else. His family was tight and he had a great relationship with Macie his sister. I want to get a book for her! His parents were still together, they had wealth, but nothing over the top.

His career was pretty much on track. I think he had goals, like Ava in his bed. It was a lot steamier than book 1. There were some scenes that had steam, but nothing extreme. I made a rhyme! Anyways this was a really good book, I thought better than book 1. I really want more of these characters. Again the author blows me away with her names they were fantastic again! Bravo

CJ has lived all over the state of California, Central, South, North and finally landing back somewhere in the middle. She married the boy she fell for when she was only eleven years old and together they have two beautiful heathens. CJ obviously loves to read and write. She can watch the Giant’s play baseball but hates football. She bakes when she’s sad, runs when she’s mad and dances when she’s happy (even if she cant find a rhythm to save her life) If you’re looking for her and can’t seem to find her, look on the staircase, it’s her favorite spot to read.

Ava Sterling is tough and the most straight laced girl you will ever meet. Her family and her past have managed to alter her future permanently and she has no desire to allow anyone else into her life or her heart for fear of rejection or further altering. Ava is alone in the world with the exception of the grandest responsibility she did not create on her own but on her own she will carry for the rest of her life.

Declan James is a MMA fighter, party all night kind of guy. Responsibility is nowhere to be found in his life or so he allows everyone around him to believe. Coming from wealth and a carefree lifestyle, Declan gets what he wants, always. And what he wants is Ava. In his pursuit of getting what he wants, Ava in his bed, his plan changes quickly without his consent. Against his plans of being the next hot bachelor to cross the tabloids as he makes his way to being the Ultimate Light Heavyweight Champion, Declan falls in love. He falls in love without hesitation and without doubt.

Neither Declan nor Ava are aware that fate has inconveniently intertwined their lives forever. Will they be able to survive the aftermath of the truth?

Without Boundaries (Without #1) by C.J. Azevedo @AzevedoCJ @ashleywilcox55 #review

You know when you start something and by page 3 you know you wont sleep? That was this book. I have to say the author has the BEST names in here. VERY different!  Bailey was living with Hollister (wicked name) and he was physically abusive. I was in love with this character from the get go. The writing was really good for him. You just felt such fear when she would come home not knowing which side of him she would see tat night. What I liked about the author’s style was the fact that you were kept on edge for small amounts of time. Just when I was thinking maybe Hollister is going to come clean, get help, go to a rehab for a psych consult, he turned bad.

Bailey Hayes was an interesting girl. She had me thinking that she came to NYU and moved in with Hollister, and regrets it. So I think her line was more that she made her bed so she must lay in it. All the elements of angst were loaded into the one character. I really wanted to see where he swept her off her feet. I think a little bit more would have solidified her feeling that she should hang in there.

When the character of Talon starts to become serious about Bailey there are parts of the book that will make you sob. He is letting her choose. Secretly praying that she will choose him. What a page turning book! There is steam but believe me it is pretty pg so share this book with everyone!

So when Hollister is out of town and she meets Talon, well that is the turning point. The authors descriptions of New York City and the Hamptons were spot on. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters. When it was over I was thinking about book 2 and then of course 3, 4 and five. I liked Talon, his sister, Declan and everyone from the pub. There is so many ways the next book can go. For me I want to see Kali, who is Talon’s sister and his cousin Declan. Another even more interesting characters are Hunter, Drea (who is a friend and co-worker of Bailey’s) and Kali. All of them are so promising. When they are out at the pub you can get the feeling that Declan and Greyden really are best buds who wanna hang out and drink a beer.

Will this brief encounter without boundaries relinquish her twisted sense of loyalty to Hollister or will she walk away from her greatest love for fear of repeating her past?

Without Boundaries (Without #1) by C.J. Azevedo @AzevedoCJ @ashleywilcox55 #Spotlight‏

Bailey Hayes moved across the country ten years ago after a tragic accident left her motherless. Distraught, confused and just sad, Bailey opted to leave the only life she has ever known to attend college at NYU. Determined to not experience the loss of a loved one again, Bailey keeps her one friend that she made as a freshmen in college. And that’s it. She dated during her college years but she never let anything really stick. Not trusting herself enough to give her heart and not get hurt she was satisfied with the life she led. That is until she met the handsome, confident and successful Hollister Harrison.
Bailey was swept off her feet instantly with his charm and charisma. Six short months of dating, she finds herself moving in with him. The minute she had her bags unpacked, the fun loving romantic she fell hard for was starting to dwindle away as he became unnecessarily possessive and borderline abusive. Bailey insists on making her relationship work in fear of repeating her past and making a haste decision by leaving too soon. On a weekend when Hollister is out of town, she meets a guy. A beautiful charming guy whom she feels an obvious attraction for, but also a unique connection with. The beautiful charming guy is none other than her running partner’s brother. Bailey finds herself in an oddly nice predicament.
The beautiful charming guy is none other than her running partner’s brother. Talon McAllister has chosen to dedicate himself to his family’s business his entire adult life. He adores his parents and his sister and hockey. Not leaving much time for anything else he has been single for years. Meeting Bailey Hayes changed his outlook. He wants her. He will do whatever he has to do to get her on the same page. Finding out she lives with her boyfriend deters him from his mission of getting her to be his. But when she calls and asks to tag along on his vacation with his sister, he can’t help but get excited. When he picks her up and sees her bruised and battered face he figures “game over” he is going to show her how she deserves to be treated. By the end of their first day together alone, Bailey propositions Talon with a brief relationship without boundaries and no lines to cross. He’s in… all in.

Will this brief encounter without boundaries relinquish her twisted sense of loyalty to Hollister or will she walk away from her greatest love for fear of repeating her past?

Daren Ackwood is a bad boy with a mysterious past. He’s the kind of guy who knows he can get any girl he wants. Kayla doesn’t do bad boys—in any sense of the word. They have a tendency to leave scars and dust trails in their wake, and Kayla isn’t running short on either. So when Daren rolls up to her father’s funeral in his shiny sports car, Kayla knows she needs to keep her distance during her brief stay in this tiny God-forsaken town. She’s here to take care of her father’s will, nothing more. The trouble is, Daren doesn’t see it that way. And he usually gets his way.

Chelsea lives in Phoenix, Arizona, where she spends most of her time writing stories, painting murals, and avoiding housework at all costs. She’s ridiculously bad at doing dishes and claims to be allergic to laundry. Her obsessions include: superheroes, coffee, sleeping-in, and crazy socks. She lives with her husband and two children, who graciously tolerate her inability to resist teenage drama on TV and her complete lack of skill in the kitchen.

I really enjoyed the book. I received it as an ARC a while ago. The characters, the plot, and the writing style were all equally as good as the other. There is a lot of suspense and mystery here. It is one of those things where you read a semi short book (140 on my Kindle) and want to scream “YES read it now” This is where the problem is; I think some things are a little disconnected. To be very honest as a blogger you get ARC’s and most of the time there is not cover and it is a sort of “work in progress” I am reading and blogging for a while and to be as honest as I can be if I saw the book cover and the title I wouldn’t bother. So I have to find a way to ask people to see beyond it and read the book. Sometimes I am right and sometimes I am not.

The way the author split the book up so there is 3 POV was pretty interesting. I liked Rachel’s brother the best. The author did a wonderful job of adding a gay male to the story. That character was the one that really spoke to me. He was so supportive of his sister. He is the brother that listens and doesn’t judge, for that I was smitten.

I did enjoy the book and I wish the author success.

Angel After Dark – Book #1, After Dark Series by Kahlen Aymes @KahlenAymes #review

Dr. Angeline Hemming aka Angel started out as a very typical no nonsense type of girl. Well that changes. She has a best friend Becca who has a daughter Killian aka Jillybug who is perfect. For Becca,  I will say she is a source of comic relief. She was pretty direct in most of her dialogue and that is why they were close friends.

Angel being a Doctor with a psych background, makes her have an edge. Now she has this gig at a radio station which is where Alex comes into play. There is a call from Whitney, who is Alex Avery’s kept woman. This sparks his curiosity even more. He is also best friends with Darian who is her boss at the radio station.

Angel and Alex together have everything it takes for a hot and steamy affair. Angels job as a profiler cause some events that make Alex jump into action. He has connections and when things get personal in her current assignment, Angel needs help. I loved the suspense thrown in. I liked how the past for Becca as well as Angel is brought up. Alex gets some of her past out in the open and the reveal is an OMG moment.

b19a5-fangirl

The characters were all rich with room to grow. So this leaves me thinking that it will be at least a 3-4 book series. There is a lot of steam here as well as suspense. I loved it! Throw in a little mistrust, betrayal and danger, and it’s ON!

Angel After Dark – Book #1, in The After Dark Series by Kahlen Aymes @KahlenAymes

Dr. Angeline Hemming is a beautiful, sassy, no-nonsense type of girl who has risen from a difficult past to become one of Chicago’s most successful and respected criminal profilers. In exchange for free commercials to promote her favorite charitable causes, Angel answers calls and gives relationship advice on a Friday night radio program.

Alexander Avery is a gorgeous and successful corporate genius, who doesn’t believe in love. When his girlfriend-of-convenience calls into Angel’s program, he is more furious with the show’s host who doles out (what he considers) blind advice, without knowing all the facts… and decides to give her a piece of his mind, and his side of the story!

When Angel informs Alex he’s the one in need of a much-deserved lesson, all hell breaks loose as these two type-A personalities battle it out for control over minds and hearts, and yes, in bed. Not only are they fighting each other at every turn, but they are also struggling to uphold the convictions they each live by.

It’s unclear who is stronger, but both must discover that to get what they desperately want, they may have to give a little … or a lot.

Throw in a little mistrust, betrayal and danger, and it’s ON!
