Working It by Kendall Ryan @KendallRyan1 #review

A story of heart-stopping, toe-curling passion by the beloved bestselling author of Hard to Love, Resisting Her, and The Impact of You.

ba227-reviewblogback

I am sure you read the synopsis and already know the main character, Emmy Clarke, from Tennessee is in New York. She gets a jobs working for Fiona Stone, modeling agent, bitch, and boss lady. I will say I loved that Emmy was a nice girl, had a real figure, and was NOT a virgin. Praise the Lord if I read one more book about a twenty something who was pure I would have screamed. Basically finding out that Fiona gets a new assistant every month, makes more sense. So the believable factor is there. Fiona is a typical business woman with little or no filter. She hurts Emmy and makes nasty comments, but that is her character.

653e9-whatilovedblogbacker2077229…was that Fiona was in the modeling business, so therefore she didn’t need a filter. The author was spot on! Anyone in that world is limited to time and says it, gets bold, and moves on without thinking. So I loved some of her comments about Emmy. She was sort of the woman you love to hate.

Enter Ben Shaw, Emmy’s first mistake. Fiona and her favorite communication mode, a sticky note, leads Emmy to call Ben into the office when she wasn’t supposed to. Here he is and she is smitten.

493f8-smilesheartbeating

Another LOVE, was the insiders view of how Ben was living. His diet, his image, and his life, all belonging to Fiona and his career. Being that his mom was a famous model, he was born into it. I loved the realistic ways of life that were stuck into the book.

The photographer clicked away, in obvious joy at getting to work with such a talent. “Chin up,” he directed. “Beautiful.” Click, click. “Relax your shoulders.” Click. “Stunning. Just like that.” Click, click.

I am going to put this one as a read it now book. Make me tell you about the steam now. OK it is steamy and it is the perfect blend of steam. Not too much, nothing crazy, just wonderful fluffy, sexy, steamy fun!

“Great, now look off camera. Pick something to focus on,” the photographer told Ben.

It’s A Shame by C.E. Hansen @CynthiaEHansen #review

If you have not read books one, stop and do so now. This one is a continuation so book one doesn’t leave with a cliff hanger. Trying to move on Grace and Cole deal with the aftermath. The author give you the conflicts. They get hate mail from people and on the other end of the spectrum they get sympathy. A very interesting side of the couple is brought  to light. They are very much in love and lust. There are a lot of pretty graphic scenes so I loved them. I enjoyed the sub character Michelle as Grace’s best friend  She overcomes a life threatening ordeal faster and becomes stronger. Between her and Grace I was loving their resiliency.

“When will this magic carpet ride stop? Where will we get off? I had a nagging worry this relationship had become too intense. It consumed me, consumed every waking moment”

Cole wants to get custody of his child Kyle and while that was not in Grace’s plans, I think she started thinking about a picket fence suburban life. When things are sexy and intimate for them it doesn’t really last long.

Grace is in the middle of another ordeal. Then she has no choice but to begin an inner conflict about Cole. She is thinking maybe he isn’t innocent  he has a temper when it comes to her. Did he take it too far? There is the ex Lauren Buckley, Mother of his child to consider. It is a page turner for sure. Michelle is attracted to Dean a detective who helped Grace. They are adorable together.

“Each day and night I spent with Cole I fell deeper and deeper in love with him.”

So along with trying to repair the relations with her Mom, Grace deals with her stepfather Franklin. I get the feeling she was indifferent since she lost her real father. Franklin however a judge, is the go to person when she is in need. It brings a new dynamic that Grace is not used to. She depends on herself and now Cole, so now she needs to depend on Franklin when Cole is in a bad situation.

There are a few parts that are laugh out loud funny. Michelle and Grace are acting like an episode of I Love Lucy when they venture to Brooklyn to try to solve a mystery. That part was hysterical to me.

It is a very erotic, fast paced suspense. I know my suspense and mystery lovers will agree it is a must read!

ad31e-synopsisblogback

A case that still haunts her every night she walks the streets of New York City, looking for trouble, trouble to stop, justice to be served. Since age eleven, she has been going out at night by herself to help those like her parents who have never been helped, to stop some of the present crimes from replaying her own history. To change the lives of as many people as she can. Her wits and hard training has been enough to get her out of trouble for a number of years since then. But now, as attention of some unwanted people starts to close in on her, she has to ask the question: Is it really worth it? Is she really HELPING the people around her, or just destroying any chance at a decent future for herself? Only for You by Genna Rulon @Literati_Lit @GennaRulon #spotlight

Only for You (For You #1) is a new adult novel written by Genna Rulon. Although this is a series, each book can be read as a stand-alone novel.

“In its purest form love is self-sacrificing, eternal, selfless, enduring, truthful, forgiving and indulgent. It also feels an awful lot like a kick to the stomach when you try to fight it!”

All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned.
When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar by her best friend, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, a tempestuous relationship is born.

Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate–that fickle shrew–continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant. The only complication… Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.

Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption—brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.

I was born in California to a military family. This meant that I was the “new kid” in school every couple of years. It was hard always trying to make new friends, but I discovered I had a knack for writing. I began writing poetry in high school and really enjoyed expressing myself by using pen and paper. After becoming a Mom in 2003, I continued my storytelling to my own children. In 2009 I wrote and published my first children’s book aimed at toddlers. In 2012 I am set to release several more children’s books. Check out what I’m working on by visiting my children’s book blog.

Writing is such a wonderful creative process and I look forward to sharing more of my stories with lots of new little readers!

The Key (The True Reign Series, #1) by Jennifer Anne Davis @AuthorJennifer

The Key (The True Reign Series, #1)
by Jennifer Anne Davis

Within these pages lie kingdoms with castles and princes who fall in love with fair maidens, but make no mistake−this is no fairytale.

His father’s kingdom is on the brink of upheaval and at the center of it all is an ordinary girl who could be the key to its undoing. When faced with the ultimate choice, will he choose the girl he’s falling in love with or the kingdom he has sworn to protect?

An ordinary girl with an extraordinary past. All she wants is to be free. What she doesn’t realize is that freedom comes with a price she can’t afford to pay. She’s forced to accept the proposal of a prince she despises, even though her heart belongs to someone else . . . his brother.

Seventeen-year-old Rema lives in a brutal kingdom where travel between regions is forbidden, people are starving, and looking at someone the wrong way can mean death. Nineteen-year-old Darmik is the king’s son and Commander of the King’s Army. He spends his days roving the island, doing his father’s bidding and trying to maintain control over the people.

When a chance encounter throws Rema and Darmik together, they share an instantaneous connection, but any sort of relationship between them is strictly forbidden. Darmik’s brother, the Crown Prince, notices Darmik’s interest in Rema and, in a calculated, political move, blackmails her. Faced with an impossible choice, Rema is forced to sacrifice her heart in order to save her family.

As Rema is taken to the palace with the Crown Prince, Darmik confronts the growing rumor that a legitimate blood heir to the throne exists and is trying to overthrow Darmik’s family. In Darmik’s quest to hunt down and kill the threat, he discovers that nothing is as it seems. Locked in the king’s castle, Rema finds herself a key player in a massive power struggle. When Darmik shows up, she’s not sure if she can trust him. The line between friends, enemies, and loyalty becomes blurred. As truths are unlocked, Rema understands that she just might be the key to finding the rightful heir and restoring peace to the kingdom… if she can manage to stay alive long enough.

Goodreads

Rema politely curtsied. Prince Lennek stepped forward, closing the distance between them. The music started and he placed his hands on her, expertly gliding her around the dance floor. At first Rema was afraid she would trip over her own feet and fall, embarrassing herself and probably meeting everyone’s expectations, but she didn’t. Surprise washed through her, especially since she hadn’t danced with anyone other than her aunt and uncle. But Lennek was dancing a basic four-step foot pattern of which she was well acquainted.

“We haven’t properly met,” Prince Lennek commented. His voice was soft and smooth, like butter. She had the urge to reach out and caress his handsome face. He looked very much like his brother, Prince Darmik. Even Prince Lennek’s tattoo was similar to his brother’s, although Lennek’s black swirls appeared more like knives than flames, especially when the light shone on the silver in the marks. Rema forced herself to focus on the prince’s face, instead of his body.

“No, we haven’t met, Your Highness,” Rema said sarcastically, wanting to stand her ground. She wouldn’t allow him to see the slightest amount of infatuation or intimidation on her part. “So I find it rather interesting that you would summon me here. You are aware that I am engaged to be married?”

He twirled Rema around and pulled her back to him, his eyes sparkling with amusement. Rema felt everyone watching and appraising her. She tried to focus on the dance and Lennek, not allowing the people’s silent judgments to overwhelm her thoughts.

“I am Prince Lennek and you are Rema, the local horse merchant’s niece.” His voice was seductive. “And yes, you are currently engaged.” His head bent forward, his lips only inches from her ear. “But things can change. Nothing is set in stone,” he whispered.

She wasn’t sure what he was implying. Did he know she secretly didn’t want to marry? His strong arm slid lower on her back. Rema stumbled, but Prince Lennek changed directions, keeping her upright. She quickly regained her footing, only missing one beat.

“Who taught you to dance?” he pleasantly asked.

Her thoughts refocused on Lennek. “My aunt.”

“Interesting. Most people in the merchant class do not know the dances of the upper class—especially dances done with royalty.” His eyes held a questioning look, awaiting her answer.

“We are dancing ‘The Courting Dance,’” Rema replied. “It was so named because it is only danced at court, also because it is usually done when a member of the royal family has decided to court someone. It reveals his intentions to his court.”

Lennek’s eyebrows lifted up, surprised. “Why do you know the dance, then?” he inquired.

Was he insulting her? Before she could think her response through, she said, “Perhaps my aunt thought such a beautiful dance shouldn’t be wasted on a select group of people who truly can’t appreciate it.” She smiled sweetly.

“Do you have an answer to everything?” he asked, amused.

“Usually,” she replied, holding her head high.

Prince Lennek laughed and twirled her around again. This time, he pulled her in a little closer. Rema’s chest touched his. His warm hand held her tight. Without meaning to, she glanced up into his eyes. There was something hypnotic about them, and she was unable to look away.

“I am so glad you wandered into my life.” Prince Lennek chuckled, like it was a private joke. “You are the key to everything.”

The music ended and the prince glanced away from her, breaking the spell. She stepped back, about to return to her seat when Lennek grabbed her arm.

Shocked, Rema stared at him. His smile vanished. His eyes were cold, as if a mask had been ripped from his face. She tried to step away, but his grip only tightened.

“What do you want?” she whispered.

“You.”

It felt like spiders crawling over her skin. “You can’t have me,” she said.

His features softened. “Really? We’ll see.” He snickered, his mask of charm instantaneously back on and the harshness gone.

Prince Lennek motioned for his steward.

“Rema is leaving the party now.”

dream of.
In record time they start dating, and she is

However, Brody’s mother has huge political plans
for her family and she makes it clear they do not include someone with Burn’s
color.
When Burn suffers a severe bout of self-loathing
because of Dawn McGraw’s words, she is forced to make a decision that will
break her heart.

Enter Trojan Catrell, a street thug and an enemy
of Brody McGraw’s. He wants what Brody has and he pursues Burn.
Since her heart still belongs to Brody, Burn’s
not interested in Trojan and the money he throws her way. However, Trojan has no intention of taking no for an answer.

He gets
what he wants, but he soon finds that there are three people in their lives,
him, Burn and Brody. A messy triangle that lasts for years ensues.

“First rule of business – gotta be a
win-win situation, know what I’m saying?”

“Eh, well, I don’t have a business and I
don’t have much to give you. How much are you wanting?”

“I don’t want your money!” His tone is
scoffing.

“Oh, okay.” I scratch my head and look
at him. Maybe I should talk about me changing my story about the gun incident?
“There’s nothing else I can give you that you’d …”

I want you.” His voice is
almost a whisper.

I look at him with huge eyes. “I’m
seventeen!” I blurt.

He shrugs.

I frown. “I …I don’t do shit like that.
Ever.”

“Ever?”

I shake my head.

“How come?” His tone tells me he doesn’t
believe me.

My turn to shrug. “I’m doing it right.
I’m waiting for the right guy before I give it up.”

His eyes turn to slits.

“And I want to be eighteen when it
happens.”

“You serious?”

“Yeah.”

“Not even for white boy?”

“Not even for white boy.”

He folds his arms across his chest.
“Don’t know if I believe you. I mean, you’re here asking me to save your boy,
but you tell me that you haven’t given it up to him as yet, even though you …?”

“Love him? Yes. But I guess he doesn’t
want to go to jail either.” I take a deep breath and cover my eyes with my
hand. “Can we talk about something else? I’m getting really awkward here.”

He smiles.

“Back to your question – seriously, what
do you want from me in return?”

“That.” Again, his voice is soft but
serious.

I peer at him in disbelief. He wants my
virginity? Is he fucking nuts? “I told you, I’m seventeen. You’ll go to prison and a pretty boy like you will get
lots of sex there.”

He smiles.

“I’ll wait till you’re eighteen.” His
voice is way too serious for my liking.

I stare at him, flabbergasted by this
whole conversation. “That is the most indecent proposal I have ever heard …” I
turn away from him then turn back to him. “It’s crazy. It’s absolutely crazy!”

My rant does not faze him. “That and three dinner dates with you.”

My jaw drops.

“Since I have to wait six months for my payment, it
will be a ‘meanwhile’ scenario.”

“I …I …” This is so fucked up. “Why me? I mean, there
are so many other girls around who are more experienced …”

“Cos you’re white boy’s girl. I want …
what he has.”

“Because I’m … “I shake my head in
disgust. “That is really fucked up, Dreads. It really is.”

“Maybe. But it is what it is, know what
I’m saying?”

Of course I know what he’s saying. “And if I say no?”

He runs his hand slowly over his face, then locks eyes
with me. “Then we have no deal.”

I stare at the ground as his words wash over me.
“You’ll wait six months?”

“I’ll wait six months.”
