Queen’s Autumn Gambit by Kristen Kindoll #review

If you want a game of intrigue and mystery with some family secrets this is for you. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I always like a good family drama tale, this didn’t disappoint! Carolyn Ainsworth is the main character along with her young sister Stacy. Living basically bare minimal, paycheck to paycheck, eating crumbs is sure not the life Carolyn wants. Surprise, she had no idea she had a grandfather and he just left her something in his will. Luca Caldwell is introduced as a very important character, he is the husband Carolyn has to take in order to collect her inheritance. Benjamin Hadley was Luca’s boss at Hadley Enterprises. He was more like a father figure and Luca respected him, so of course he attend the reading of the will.

Let the games begin

Everything moves fast for Carolyn and her sister. One day they are rationing bread and the next a butler greets them. So Luca and Carolyn are nothing and then bam they are married. They discover so many strange things beginning with secrets about their families. They are not given a lot of “get to know” you sort of time, but I had a feeling about their union so to speak. The part of the reading where they are told they have to stay married for 5, yes FIVE years made me laugh a little.

You just know it its going to be good. I wont give away anything regarding the plot, but I will say Carolyn had no experience with men in general. That was another part that I loved! I knew she wouldn’t be able to fully understand and she would not take this one easily.

Are they just pawns? Why were they brought together?

While I get the title having now read the book, most people would probably pass it up. Sometimes a little thing like calling it “The Inheritance” would sell a ton of books. So I appeal to the mystery lovers out there to read this and please support the author! I am thrilled I met the author and got a chance to showcase her debut novel.

The love of education and learning has provided many topics for her work. She writes a weekly column for the Tennessean about home-schooling and local family events.
