The crossing paths of friendship, family, love, and loss are often complicated.
June Deckert and Caroline Smith sparked a friendship in college that carried them through graduation. Although they are complete opposites in every way, they have spent the last four years inseparable.
That is, until now.
June finds herself falling for a man who seems unattainable. As she works side by side with him on a new media campaign, their feelings for each other come alive. But when his actions start to speak louder than words, she wonders if she’s missing something.
Meanwhile, Caroline is fighting against her feelings for a recent acquaintance, and she decides to keep her new love interest a secret from June. Overwhelmed by these new emotions, her moods change swiftly, swinging up and down like a yo-yo.
While June and Caroline try to maneuver their way through new relationships, Caroline starts lying to June to protect her from a truth that threatens to break her heart and tear them apart.
In the end, Caroline’s deceit will test their friendship, and June will have to decide if her chance at love is worth putting her heart on the line.

In 2012, I decided to begin writing my first novel. I have enjoyed reading and writing since I was young but never dreamed that writing my own novel would be an attainable goal. After reading several independently published novels by Jamie McGuire, Colleen Hoover and others, I decided I needed to give my dream a chance. So, here I am.

A Higher Voice by Sheri Wren Haymore #review

I thought A Higher Voice was a good read. It was pretty enjoyable and I liked Britt’s story. Aside from the underlying messages about Dena and her beliefs I found her likeable. I was really engaged in Britt’s storyline. It was a different type of book with a star who was not typical. It was hard to imagine Britt falling for Dena and how they stayed together was a positive aspect. He really evolved and learned a lot about himself. Very refreshing.

There was a lot to like about this book and I would say if you are in the mood for something, clean and refreshing give this one a try. I liked that the love story between Britt & Dena started right away and lasted throughout the book. You can relate to Dena and her need to protect her daughter. It was showing the faith Dena had in a different way along with her trust in Britt’s feeling for her.

The author added a little sub plot with the music, production and concerts concerning Britt.

I am perfectly flawed and I believe the best stories aren’t about perfect people. The best stories are about what happens when you back a flawed person into a corner.

I like to unravel a character until I get at the story he really wants to tell me. The story might leave us a little grimy in the telling, but we’ll find out just what he’ll risk everything for. We’ll find out whether he’s willing to let the story transform him.

Because I believe God’s story is evident even in the grimiest of tales.

As for me, I’m as flawed as anyone. I can scruff along my daily walk not much different than the next person. And yet…and yet, by God’s grace, I stand perfect. Amazing truth.

I am a graduate of High Point University, I live near Mt. Airy, North Carolina, and my husband and I own a couple small businesses.

Where I’m From:
I was an Air Force brat growing up, so I’m not really sure where I’m from. I was born in California, then moved to Germany, then moved to New Mexico. New Mexico is usually where I say I’m from, since that’s where I lived the longest. Alamogordo is my hometown. You’ve probably never heard of it. Most people haven’t. And those who have wish that they hadn’t.

Here’s a photo of Alamogordo, New Mexico from Wikipedia. It pretty much sums it up.

Yeah, there’s nothing there. Except for a water tower and tumbleweeds. And dirt. Lots of it.

What I Do:
By day, I work as an editor and graphic designer for a magazine publishing company. By night, I write novels just for kicks.

When and Why I Decided to Become a Writer:
I think I was ten years old the first time I thought about becoming a published author. At the time, I was completely obsessed with R.L. Stine, The Boxcar Children, and Sweet Valley High. When I wasn’t reading those books, I was combing the shelves at the school library for any and every fiction book written for children. I quickly became obsessed with creative writing, and began writing short stories. A couple of them won school awards and my head swelled to the size of the Goodyear Blimp. Then I entered the same stories in a citywide competition, and when they lost I came crashing back down to reality. My artwork, meanwhile, went on to win city and statewide awards. Art became my main focus, but I never stopped writing.

Hobbies and Interests:
I like to bake, and cook, but I don’t do much of either lately because I have two babies in diapers. Being a mommy is awesome, and it takes a lot of time. I’ve always been a big movie-goer, and I’m usually watching an action flick or slapstick comedy of some sort. As much as I love to write, I also have a passion for graphic design. It’s what I went to school for, and what pays the bills.

Note: This novel contains mature content, sexuality, and adult language.

No One Cared by Author Chemistry @Chemistry2 @ladyreaderstuff #review

Review of No One Cared:
“No One Cared” the new novella by author Chemistry, to be in released October 2013. This read brings you heartbreak, anger, rage and betrayal. Yes it has all of that. This is a novella, which means it is all power packed with emotions. I cant tell you how touching the story was. I would love to see this in a full length novel. It would without a doubt be a NYT bestseller.
When the book open it is on page 2 that the darkness starts. Some of it is tough to read and comprehend as a parent. I fell in love with Zaria from page one as an eight year old. So as the reader, it runs the gamut of emotions from rage to love. This novella tackles the issues of abuse and teen bullying.
I think everyone should read this and maybe it will bring awareness to the teen high school bullies. That part of the story was so hard to read.

Lying to Meet You by Anna Garner @LibbyMercer1 #review

18211375

Review:

Chick lit lovers unite once again! The premise is so good; lie and say you are seeing someone and then they (men) will flock to you. I know I heard somewhere that a man wearing a wedding ring is more appealing. I don’t know where I heard it or if it is true. Either way a very interesting idea!

For Chloe to own a store and be totally focused on fashion is typical of the author. She writes a fashion maven with ease, this one included.

When I read characters such as Chloe and Ethan I truly appreciate the author. She made them so lovable.  The pretend to date each other theme used with them just made me enjoy it more. Sometimes the one you should be with is right there, sometimes fate jumps in, either way they worked for me. There are a few along the way that peak my interest, but the author keeps you guessing.

Anna has also written a few great novels as Libby Mercer. Check her out and dont miss the other fabulous novels she has written.

#Interview with Double Play author Nikki Duvall @nwromance

Interview with Nikki Duvall

nikki duvall 4317680

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I began writing books when I was in first grade and my teacher, Rita Thrasher, recognized my gift early on. In fact, she pulled me out of class and gave me the time and space to write all the books I wanted to write. Her motive was to keep me interested in school work that didn’t challenge me. But that early recognition of my talent and my passion to write left a lasting impression. Later, when I handed in my final exam in an English literature college course, my professor looked at me and said, “Someday we’ll be reading you.” I wonder if that professor knew what a boost that was to a young woman struggling between the choice of a mainstream occupation and to follow her dreams of becoming a writer. My life has been filled with personal struggle beside so many other strong women who can say the same. We seem to always rise above. My writing allows me to capture the spirit of strong women and share that undying determination with my readers so they can be inspired to deal with life’s challenges with grit and fortitude. That’s my joy- that I might influence my readers to be all they can be, follow the example of the strong female characters in my novels, and live the life of their dreams.
What are you working on next?
I’m returning to my Midwest roots by setting my next book, Close Quarters, in the rural town of Kidron, Ohio. The female protagonist is a bit biographical, an unsettled young woman who is trying to find new roots away from home, but is slowly discovering that home might be the best fit for her after all. Add some quirky relatives, an old flame, and some local colorful details and you’ve got a funny fast read. Look for it later this fall.
Who are your favorite authors?
I’ve been leaning toward western authors for a while now as I make my home in Colorado. Pam Houston and Rick Bass are two writers that really speak to me, as they capture the independent spirit of the West so beautifully. Plus, I’m a fan of short stories, and both Pam and Rick deliver.
Then there’s the Phillipa Gregory series of historical romances that I just can’t put down. Thank goodness Phillipa is such a prolific author! There’s always one more to savor. When I pick up one of her novels, everything else goes to the back burner. Reading PG is dangerous when I’m facing deadlines.
Joan Johnston was an early inspiration to begin writing romance. Her big breakout novel, The Cowboy, remains my favorite.
When you’re not writing, how do you spend your time?
I’m lucky enough to live in the mountains and as the sign in a local restaurant says, “if you’re lucky enough to live in the mountains, you’re lucky enough.” So unless the weather is unbearable, my dogs and I are out in the woods.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Goodreads is a great source for recommendations from friends who know you. Plus, I’m a librarian and books are our business. When I see a title that intrigues me, I immediately check on its ebook status.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The Elephant and the Lady Bug was my first short story completed during first grade- literally during. My imagination was always running free and school bored me, so I would construct little stories on the sly.
What is your writing process?
I jot down little phrases I hear on the country music station (I swear those short lyrics are full of gold!) or imagine characters and conversations, then usually when the sun goes down and there are no visual distractions like beautiful mountains beckoning me outside, I dissolve into my little private world and construct scenes. I start with dialogue, because isn’t that what really reveals everything? Then I work in details that acts as the web that holds it all together. I can write for 8 hours or 1 hour, but I try to write something every day. When I’m writing, I’m happy. When I’m not, I’m grumpy as hell.
Describe your desk
I work in a sunroom with a large light colored wood Ikea desk that takes up most of the space. The desk faces a beautiful view of mountain peaks and I watch red tailed hawks swooping over the surrounding woods from here. I have a thesaurus strategically placed next to my laptop for quick reference when I need just the right word. The Virgin of Quito (Ecuador) stands directly in the middle of my desk, watching over me with a serpent at her feet. There are live green plants all over this room, filling the room with oxygen and beautiful color. Right now, I have an empty glass of rice milk and a couple crackers plus a dozen little pieces of paper reminding me of a phrase I heard, a fun character detail, or a good name for the next hero.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Massillon, a dirty, poor steel town in northeast Ohio. The town has seen ups and downs over the years and every time I go back, I feel its struggle. The people there inform my characters- hard working, honest, always striving to do better. My next book is set quite close to my hometown, in the nearby rolling farmland.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I received many rejections from agents who told me my writing was wonderful but my work didn’t fit any particular genre. There isn’t much room for variance from the formula for romance novels. But I’ve always been headstrong, and I wanted to write what I felt were great novels, even if they didn’t fit a mold. So I decided to publish them myself. I continue to get rave reviews from readers, and that’s very gratifying.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I believe we all have a calling. Like Oprah said years ago, it’s our job to find out what that calling is. If you have a talent, it’s your obligation to the world to use it. So I start each day looking for ways to contribute to the human experience in a positive way. That may be through my library work, through personal relationships, or by writing books that inspire women to believe in themselves and live their dreams. Each day is a gift. I try hard to remember that and be grateful for every moment.

Just one heartbeat away from ending his life, Eli decides that he’s not going alone. He’s determined to take an innocent man with him. In the midst of that encounter, God shows up… and Eli is transformed.
A simple man of faith… Johnny James is a civil servant—just a modest police Chaplain in a mid-sized southwestern town. He has no idea that he is about to be tossed so deeply into the fray. Will he find what he’s searching for? Does it even exist? In the center of two worlds, Jared finds more than he ever imagined.

A Chain of Flames shows us how the seemingly small things in life can become grand adventures. If not for ourselves, then for others.”

My name is Tony Cleaver and I’m a refugee from the city of Flint, Michigan. When I was growing up, my hometown was the bastion of blue collar opulence. Jobs were plentiful, they paid well, and they pretty much always had.

Then in the late 1970′s, things took a turn for the worst. The automobile industry went belly-up. Workers with families were laid off by the tens of thousands, and after decades of decline, Flint is no longer a laborer’s paradise. Instead, it has become a capitol for crime, and poverty, and for urban decay.

Back in the day- young people who wanted any kind of a life for themselves, were forced to leave . . .  so I wandered.
