Beyond Repair by Chelsea Camaron (Daddys Girls series) @chelseacamaron #review

17972195

I loved this series. The first book was just the beginning. The second Salvaged was so emotionally charged. I felt it for weeks after I was done. Full Throttle was a little edgy and more dram than the others. Now I get Beyond Repair and this was the steamiest work that Chelsea Camaron has produced. I know I read and devour all of her books. So The ending of the last left us thinking about Harrison (Harry) it left an awkward pause. Now that being said, I knew the next was going to feature my Harry. BINGO here he is. Harry’s entire past comes out with the hauntings and all. So he is not running away as much as starting over.

When things ended with Tiffany it was dished out sort of one sided. I will say when she shows up in this book it didn’t take long for me to see redemption. I knew her acting the way she did was not her, the real Tiffany. I have had all these characters in my head for all these books and I know them. Therefore I saw redemption and Tiffany hooking up. It was a feeling that I had from Full Throttle, I sort of knew that this Southern Belle was not evil.

It was very deep when Harrison was involved with Sophia. I know for a fact the surface was for display, and there was a lot underneath on both parts. A big reveal there too. I totally got Sophia and why she never wanted to get involved with anyone. My heart broke for her after the reveal too. Not going to say a word other than unexpected!

What happens between these two people is deep. This is her most erotic work ever. I will swoon over Harry for many months to come. The best part and I am NOT sorry if it is a spoiler but there are piercings involved. YEP not only Harry, but Tiffany too. Scream a four letter word with me! I was blown away by this one!

I know you will all totally gobble this up and I am thrilled to call Chelsea a sister and friend. So please support her and read the books, all of them! When you do post a review and if you tweet me the review I will do something special for you!

The Guys Are Props Club by Ingrid Seymour #spotlight #Debut @Ingrid_Seymour

During her senior year in high school, Maddie Burch promised herself not to ever fall for a cute guy – or any guy – again. Cute guys are players and not to be trusted, a fact she learned the hard way when her first boyfriend ran her heart through a paper shredder. Two years later, her promise is still intact, and she’s determined to make it through college without falling victim to another creep. She has her job, school and The Guys Are Props Club to keep her mind and hormones in check.

The club was founded by Jessica, Maddie’s best friend. It is a sisterhood of girls who have fallen prey to heartless jerks and who have vowed to turn the tables. Once a semester, Jessica requires members to “do onto others as they’ve done unto you.” Setting the example, Jessica’s next play is Sebastian Capello, a theater major with heartthrob looks and a flair for Latin dance, whose heart she plans to break the way hers was once broken.

What the friends don’t know is that Sebastian is different. Despite his perfect looks and popularity, he’s not a jerk. He doesn’t play games to get his way. Instead, he keeps it real and goes after what he wants with honest intentions. And what he wants is not a bombshell like Jessica, but a down-to-earth girl like Maddie – even if it causes a riff in the girl’s friendship. Even if it means getting Maddie to break her personal vow.

*** Due to language and sexual situations this book is recommended for ages 17 and older.

– Daniel Kalla, best-selling author of PANDEMIC and THE FAR SIDE OF THE SKY

A prominent surgeon accused of murder and terrorism…

A corrupt healthcare administrator hell-bent on bloody revenge…

A mysterious seductress whose secrets could free the doctor and kill thousands…

A terrorist cell with missiles aimed at a leading hospital in America’s Bible Belt…

Not for Profit takes you on an action-packed thrill ride that will have you questioning suspects, motives, and outcomes until the very last page.

Renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Scott James is charged with murder after two bodies are found at his surgery center. Just weeks before the start of his capital murder trial, Dr. James is approached by a beautiful woman claiming she can help him gain information that would prove his innocence.

As James hunts down the evidence that might free him, he faces a barrage of threats to his life and liberty–and makes one chilling discovery after another: Corporate corruption. A conspiracy to frame him for murder and for terrorist acts. A secret drone-control operation that takes out targets in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The true identity and intent of his beautiful ally. And a plot to blow up the local hospital and surrounding community.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Glenn Shepard was raised on a farm in eastern Virginia. He attended the University of Virginia on an academic scholarship and majored in psychology. As an undergraduate, he lettered in wrestling for three years in a row. Then, he went on to become the only person in UVA history to letter in wrestling again in his sophomore year in medical school.

After completion of med school at UVA, he went to Vanderbilt where he completed his residency in general and cardiovascular surgery. He spent two years in the Army at the Ft. Gordon Army Hospital in Augusta, Georgia and The Second Surgical Hospital in An Khe, Vietnam.

While in Vietnam, he wrote his first work of fiction, Surge, which is on his back burner of works to dig out of the attic and publish, with major revisions, in the future.

He trained in plastic surgery at Duke University, becoming board certified in General Surgery and Plastic surgery. He opened his own Surgery Center in Eastern Virginia, where he worked for 23 years, mostly in a solo practice, before joining a large, plastic surgery group.

For 28 years, he founded and directed The Peninsula Cranio-Facial deformities clinic that was staffed by volunteer medical, dental, social services, psychology, and speech pathology experts. The group treated over five hundred patients with cleft lips and palates, as well as a variety of deformities of the face and hand.

Shepard founded, funded, and directed the Riverside Microvascular Research Lab, in which he studied the basic science of wound healing, the development of of cleft palates, new techniques in palatal repair, and the regeneration of injured fingernails. He published numerous scientific publications on his work in the lab and clinic.

After the massive Earthquake in Haiti in January, 2010, Dr. Shepard emerged from retirement and joined the Notre Dame Hospital unit in Leogane, Haiti for a 10 day rotation. His empathy for the people and their problems as well as his admiration for the contributions of time and talent from medical personnel from all over the world greatly inspired his second novel, Relief Aid, Haiti.

All his adult life, he has studied and collected American Art of the Hudson River genre. Also, he collects paintings of the prominent Virginia artist, Barclay Sheaks. Currently, he’s writing the authorized biography of the artist.

For six years, he worked with two high school wrestling programs, one that was a perpetual state champion, and the other, a perpetual runner-up in the state meet. He wisely quit after a heavy weight wrestler broke three of his ribs.

Apart from gaining pleasure from writing as his primary hobby for the past twelve years, he is an avid fly fisherman, spending much of his free time fishing on the Chesapeake Bay and at his farm near Williamsburg. There he enjoys nature hikes, observing and photographing the abundant deer population, and always searching for new bird species that might wander off their migratory paths into his view.

Dr. Shepard has also become involved in aquaculture and raises hybrid rock fish, rainbow trout, and fresh water shrimp. While this is not yet a profitable enterprise, it provides a delicious seafood addition to his annual Bluegrass and Barbecue Party. While he has been known to play a mean banjo, he prefers to provide himself as an audience for the many and more talented singers and pickers in his area.

An Interview with Author Glenn Shepard
a.) How did you get into writing?

Writing has become a form of relaxation for me. My busy and mostly solo plastic surgery practice was very demanding, keeping me up late every night. During the day, I found it relaxing to create fictitious scenarios that could be solved. It was an outreach of my medical research, where I’d invest time and money in a hypothesis that could not always be proven by the scientific method. Rather than seeking a “journal of negative results” in which to publish, I found it relaxing and therapeutic to write fiction, where any story line could be altered to fit any conclusion.

b.) How long have you been writing?

I started writing in 1986, completing a 1000 page action thriller entitled, The Hart Virus. It told of the beginnings of the AIDS problem and offered insight into the nature of the virus, its mutations which made it difficult to cure, and the social stigma associated with the disease. I thought it was a novel “ahead of its time” and it did project the direction AIDS eventually took as well as the method necessary for a successful vaccine. However, the burdens of a busy plastic surgery practice did not allow the time to pursue publication, and as the years passed, the concept of the book became outdated. Yet, I had caught the writing bug and kept at it. I continued exploring fiction and completed six mystery novels of the next twenty years, and again, made no attempt to publish any of them until four years ago when I started my current novel, Not For Profit.

c.) What’s your novel about?

Not For Profit is a thriller about a conscientious plastic surgeon, Dr. Scott James, who tangles with an ambitious hospital administrator, Herb Waters, who siphons large sums of money from a non-profit hospital into his own pockets. Two men are murdered in James’s surgery center and the doctor is charged with the crimes. In trying to prove his innocence, Dr. James discovers a terrorist attack planned against a mysterious drone operator who moves his base of operations from the Middle East to the doctor’s home town. A beautiful computer genius, Ethel Keyes, comes to assist him as he tries to free himself from the capital murder charges.

d.) Is it the first book in a series?

Yes, Not For Profit is the first book in an action thriller series involving Dr. Scott James, the terrorist, and the beautiful computer geek. In the second novel, Relief Aid Haiti, the good doctor, Scott James, goes to Haiti to assist an old surgical colleague with a backlog of surgery caused by the Haitian earthquake. Terrorists have seized the $5 billion Relief Aid Fund given by a multitude of foreign nations. The hospital ship James works on is hijacked and the terrorists seek not only destruction of major cities in the US, but want revenge for the blow James gave to the terrorists in Not For Profit. Book Three, A Funeral In Texas, again uses the special talents of Dr. James in tracking down a Nazi physician who committed crimes in WWII and is now seemingly immortal and practicing in Texas.

e.) Where can people buy your books?

In the next few weeks, the first book, NFP, will be available both as a softcover and an e-book on Kindle from Amazon.com.

f.) How do you compare being a writer to being a doctor?

Nothing compares to the thrill of surgery. I loved every minute of my surgical practice, and as excited as I get about creating situations and solutions in books, I’d go back to operating in a heartbeat if I had the physical stamina that I had in my younger year… Ahh, to be young again…

g.) What parts of your new book are based upon real life events?

The events that inspired Not For Profit occurred on a distant planet, far away, and in the distant future. Throughout the novel, I became involved, as a participant in the action, and realized that revenge from a rich and powerful hospital can cripple an individual with average means, as happened with Dr. James. It would take another powerful corporation to stand toe to toe with the hospital giants. Let somebody else blow whistles. I just want to write my novels and enjoy the good life that brings. All fiction is real life and all real life is fiction. I could not be a novelist without the life experiences that show weaknesses in our great, but tainted network of health care delivery.

h.) Tell me about your hero?

Dr. Scott James is part me, part colleagues I have known and worked with, and part total make-believe. However, over the course of the writing, James became a real person, at least to me. So real, I lived his trials and triumphs. When he was hurt, I suffered from agitation and sleep loss, just as he did. The depression he endured to the point of suicide, I endured as well. From his experiences, I know what it’s like to be suicidal. I know what it’s like to experience depression. And, I know the joys of surviving. The love Ethel Keyes gave to him, she gave to me. That love made me strong. The long nights I spent writing the book gave me strength, just as they were also a source of strength for Dr. James.

i.) Tell me about the next book in the series?

The trauma of divorce and the loss of Dr. James’ surgical practice in Not For Profit have depressed him so that he begins to use tobacco and alcohol as crutches. He is looking for an escape, so he interrupts his job as a hospital administrator to go to Haiti to operate. And recover. Only once there, he becomes involved in terrorist activities even more dangerous and deadly than the ones he faced in Not For Profit. The odds are stacked against him. Is he strong enough to survive?

I’ll tell you when I finalize that book. 🙂

Author Bio

Jani has been married for a long time to a special man, and her two children and their partners are the sunshine in her life. She is a voracious reader and would spend her last dollar on a book – always fascinated that for the mere price of a book, she can escape her world for a while and see through someone else’s eyes.

Besides reading, her favorite ‘thing’ is traveling – she has traveled the world, learning about the ways people live and has come to the realization that no matter where we live, we all ultimately want the same things. Her hobby – Scrapbooking – keeps her up till way after midnight and her usual subjects are her family and her travels.

Ever since she can remember, Jani wanted to write stories about people, about their lives and loves. Relationships and Happiness – arguably the most difficult things to master in life and yet exactly what everyone ultimately desires (in her humble opinion).

Extract from ‘Open Your Eyes’

~Jani Kay~

…from Chapter 7

Nick must have sensed that I was awake. He slowly opened his eyes, confused for a few seconds before remembering where he was. He caught me in the act of staring at him, drawing in a short sharp breath when he looked down at me, straight into my eyes. A wicked grin spread over his face as he turned onto his side and hauled me even closer, encaging me with both his arms.

“What a lovely way to wake up,” he whispered as he planted a kiss in my hair. His big hand rubbed up my back leisurely, as if he was savoring the moment, his palm applying just the right amount of pressure to my spine to make me want to purr. In spite of trying to suppress it, a small moan escaped my lips as he reached my neck and gently traced up it with his fingers, till his hand disappeared into my hair. Very gently, he massaged the base of my scalp till I dug my forehead into his chest, the simple touch sending ripples of pleasure through my already aroused body.

Good God! I barely knew the man, but his touch alone could ignite a fire in my belly of a magnitude I had never experienced before. If he could get this kind of toe-curling reaction from me by merely massaging my neck, what would making love with him do to me?

He gently tugged a fist full of my hair, raising my face up to his. I had closed my eyes, not wanting him to see the desire burning deep within me. My heart pounded in my chest as I tried desperately to keep my breathing even.

“Open your eyes. Look at me,” he whispered. I obeyed, even though it would expose my deepest feelings, slowly meeting his intense gaze. I gasped at the yearning in his eyes. My eyes melted into his as he searched my soul, seeing deeper than anyone ever had.

“Natalie,” he groaned softly as his head dipped and his lips covered mine. The kiss was gentle at first, a meeting of mouths and tasting one another. “So sweet,” he murmured against my mouth, then let his tongue slide along my lips, till I parted my mouth to let him slip in. He tasted of cheesecake and sleep…and passion and fire. His silky tongue glided along mine, a mingling of breaths and raw desire.

His hand moved down my back to cup my bottom and pull me against his body, closing the gap between us. So far I had carefully avoided touching in intimate places, much like a virgin in denial of the awakening of her body.

His arousal pushed into my belly, and I let out a gasp that he swallowed quickly with his mouth. My pulse quickened at the feel of his hard length throbbing against me, only the fabric of our clothing between us. The warm liquid pooling between my legs begged for more of him, but I lay there, unable to move, stunned that this man so obviously wanted me. I was getting more and more out of my depth with every passing moment. I wanted him, yet I wasn’t sure how to respond.

I’d never been a one-night stand type of girl. And I definitely didn’t do sex on a first date. Hell, this wasn’t even supposed to be a date. And he was virtually a stranger. Yet the want – the longing – in my belly overwhelmed my senses. I wanted to rub up against his erection; I wanted to kiss him till I was breathless. But I just lay there, dumbstruck.

“Natalie?”

I screwed my eyes shut.

“I want you, Natalie. God, how I want you…” He thrust his pelvis against my stomach, grinding his steel hard length into me to affirm his words. “But I would never take you now. Not like this.”

His words had a strange effect on me – calming and evoking feelings of deep trust.

“I sense your fear, my little one, why are you so afraid?” His husky voice soothed me over. How could I tell him? Words weren’t enough.

“Open your eyes so I can see what you’re feeling. It’s OK, I won’t hurt you.” Concern laced his voice. His hand cupped my chin, his thumb gently caressing my lips. I could drown in his touch alone.

My lids were heavy. Heavy with desire and pain and fear.

“Open, Natalie,” he coaxed so gently I couldn’t refuse.

I forced my eyes to open, my lids lifting slowly, trying to force my gaze to be neutral. But the moment I looked into his – soft and gentle – all the emotions came rushing back. This man could look deep into my soul without me uttering a word.

A sigh of relief escaped his lips. “You want me too…” he breathed as a wicked, wicked grin spread over his lips.

He must have read the confusion in my eyes. “For a moment there I thought you didn’t want me, little one. But your eyes tell me everything I need to know.”

The pressure from his thumb increased on my lips, and as a small gasp escaped, he pushed his thumb into my mouth. I sucked his thumb hungrily, my groin throbbing with want.

“Ahh, God,” he groaned. “What you do to me…” He took my hand in his and slipped it between us, resting my palm on his erection, which had grown even harder and longer as I touched it. “I want you.” I stroked his length lovingly, my thumb rubbing over the tip roughly, sucking his thumb harder and harder.

He pulled his thumb from my mouth and instantly replaced it with a warm wet kiss, his tongue wild, stroking, teasing, hot and wet.

His hands slipped under my top, finding my breasts like missiles, pushing my bra cups up. “You feel so good,” he moaned softly, “a perfect handful,” as his thumbs rolled and pinched my aching nipples. His words turned me on even more, the heat between my legs rising, my panties wet with want.

I slung my leg over his, pressing my body as close to his as I could get it, rubbing my mound against his throbbing erection, desperate for the friction, pushing him closer with my leg on his ass. It was driving me wild, in spite of the barrier of clothing between us.
