All she needs is the strength to reach out and reclaim the beautiful life she should have had so long ago.

Sweet Money Won by Mycroft Magnusson @MycroftMag

Sweet Money Won

I read this and yes it was FAB!! I have to clear the decks a little to give a few great books proper credit.

Book synopsis:

Rick and Liam are two small-time con artists who live in the Koreatown section of Los Angeles–Rick is addicted to internet porn and dangerous women, while Liam is a functioning alcoholic who loves the New England Patriots as much as life itself.

The partners push their luck one time too many, and while Rick is recovering from a life-altering beatdown he received at a casino, he falls in love with a mystery woman online, a webcam-girl known as Amethyst. When Rick learns that she lives across the city, where she has been forced into prostitution by a gang of Russian sex-traffickers, he sets out to save her.

In order to do that, however, he must betray his longtime partner and steal their savings, which Liam has built up with a series of shrewdly-placed sports bets. Rick makes his move, just as Liam places the mother of all wagers, on his beloved Patriots.

Things go horribly wrong, and the two friends find themselves scrambling for cash to stave off their leg-breaking Korean bookies. With only three days to raise all the money, the partners hatch a desperate scheme to blackmail a philandering US congressman. At the same time, their friendship is threatened by Rick’s wild, unpredictable new girlfriend.

Can the three of them pull it together and pull off their audacious plan? Will jealousy and suspicion tear them apart? Finally, what is Amethyst’s dark secret, and can these two screw-ups survive long enough to learn the terrible truth?

It’s all-in for Rick and Liam, in this sexy, fast-paced crime thriller – the debut novel from Mycroft Magnusson

The Author
Mycroft Magnusson’s early years were spent following his father, a forensic accountant for the British Foreign Service, around the world. By the age of ten, Mycroft had lived in no less than fifteen different countries—mostly in Africa, the Middle East, and the Subcontinent. It was at this time that young Magnusson’s mother died of a rare blood ailment which was never fully diagnosed, and the boy soon began wending his way through the English boarding school system, ultimately finding himself with a oar in his hand at Oxford but no diploma.

As the only remaining child in the family, the lack of graduation drove a wedge between the boy and his father, and set in motion young Magnusson’s journey to find his place in the world. Not knowing where to start, he traced the steps of great men from the past—Teddy Roosevelt through the Amazon, Gandhi in India, Jesus’s forty days and nights in the Judean desert. Sustaining himself by performing the circus skills he learned as a boy, in a few short years Magnusson had navigated the world.

His most famous adventure which went awry was a failed solo crossing of the Pacific Ocean in a hot-air balloon. A fire forced the water-ditching of the airmobile, two-thirds of the way from Hawaii to Peru. Fortunately for Magnusson, he was rescued by Chilean fishermen, who had been lost at sea themselves for over thirty days. Only a short time later, he found himself manipulating votes in the basement of a house in Ohio (US).

Magnusson now lives in Portugal with his wife, a former Miss World contestant, and their two pets—a faithful black labrador, and a ringtail monkey with whom he occasionally does street performances in Lisbon.

Ethan Parker is a sort of loner. When he comes to hear a girl crying night after night next door, he finally does the right thing. They form a friendship and bond that is really sweet. He has a bad past that is scarred him. As for Emily, her growing up is equally as bad. What I liked about the book was the potential. I know it was a novella, but it could rival some best sellers. I hope somewhere there is an extended version that would fill in the missing parts. I sincerely liked the book and felt like it was more of an outline to something that can be huge.

Book Description
Publication Date: January 31, 2013
THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Tattoo artist Ronnie Clark is counting the days until Valentine’s Day is over. Ronnie doesn’t do romance. She doesn’t do flowers or dates, and she sure as hell doesn’t do love–not anymore. After her fiancé cheated on her while deployed, she has vowed never to fall in love again, especially with a soldier.

Sergeant First Class Kale Emerson is home on his mid-tour leave from Iraq, but he can’t wait to return to finish leading his soldiers on their mission. He’s got no time for a relationship…but casual sex, that’s a different story. And when he meets Ronnie, a snarky, gorgeous, take-no-prisoners kind of woman, a fast fling is all he can think about. But when Kale realizes he’s met his match with a bombshell woman who is hell bent against love, will just sex be enough? And will winning her over both body and soul be the toughest battle he ever fought?

First of all this is the perfect book for me. LOVED it! The two main characters Ronnie and Kale are dreamy. She is the tattoo artist with the attitude and he is Sergeant First Class Kale Emerson. Home from Iraq for a few weeks and excited about the return. He isn’t interested in relationships, she was cheated on. He goes to get his first tatoo being a memorial piece for his Iraq brothers. First and secondary characters were well developed and likable.

The book is written between the characters and a third person’s POV. So overall if you like chicklit and romance with an edge this is for you. Lots of drama, feelings, past and future dreams with a little bit of stalker fear. The story line was very entertaining. No lie, I was hooked the minute Kale came in to get a tatoo.

So I was swooning and can not  wait to see what Kelsie Leverich comes out with next. Bravo on a wonderful debut

I am a wife and a mommy to two adorable knuckleheads, a hair stylist by day and a writer by night. My crazy life revolves around my family (to include two dogs and a cat) and most of the time, actually all of the time, it’s a crazy mess—but I love it! Drinking lots of wine and reading lots of books helps, I promise! My passion is writing. It’s the thing I think about when I wake up in the morning, the thing I think about in between packing lunches and giving baths, and the thing I think about when I close my eyes at night. Ask my friends, family, and clients—I’m sure they are sick to death of hearing me talk about it all the time! A book can teleport you to another life, to another world. It can sweep you off your feet, make you fall in love, break your heart, and heal your soul. I love reading for those reasons, and I love writing for those reasons. I would love to hear from you. Grave Bound (Secrets, #1) by T. R. Graves @WarriorsSeries @Tale_of_Reviews

GRAVE BOUNDEmily Riddle is now 19 and has lived her entire life inside a commune led by her father, Owen. This has never been a happy place for her. She is surrounded by people who simply obey her father  Owen, the leader. The entire story has you just holding your breath at times. I can’t even imagine how this life could be and aside from that writing it. It is a very tough subject matter that will conjure up some situations you never would have thought about.  The description of life on this commune is so detailed. The young girls, like Emily are “promised” and have no choice but to enter into an arranged marriage. There is only life inside the chain link fence. There is no communication allowed. woman are more slaves and baby makers than anything.

When Emily hears from the worst man she knows, Lorenzo, that she was promised to him, my heart was broken. For the first time she reacts without automatically doing what she was trained to do, say yes and nothing more. She thinks she can’t live with him, have babies, stay married. She meets Tope (who turns out to be the D.A.) and his cousin Levi. It all at once hits her, (bam! little lightning bugs and fairy dust) she is in love with Levi. At that moment she formulates a plot, if not she will die before she marries Lorenzo. She makes some pretty strong statements. It is the turning point where she realizes that this may be the only opportunity she has to leave the commune. It is a know fact you don’t ever leave, if you do you are found dead.

Along with Em you meet her best friends and her Step Brothers, who are equally sick. They all beat women, talk down to them, marry them and go to the “Commune Hall” at night to have sex with the commune whores. Emily knows her Aunt Tess is her strongest advocate and Aunt Tess is so much stronger than anyone knows. There is where the secrets will unravel. She finds out so many things that leave her broken and feeling like there is no way out.

Fighting to escape the commune, her Dad, Lorenzo, and her brothers Emily is in for the battle of her life. Just read it and you will see. There are no words to express how exquisitely  told the story is. I want so much more and I just know this is destined for great reviews. It is like no other story I have read.

L.G. (Linda) Castillo wrote her first story when she was ten and has been writing ever since.
