REPORTER BECK RIKKI is back. From book 1 which was almost 3 years ago. 

 

First, anyone who knows me, knows I am a big political fan. I am a Trump supporter, a die hard Republican and outspoken about it. Lately most of our political system has been under a magnifying glass. Reading this was a real treat. I thank the author for asking me to review it. So you dont have to read book 1 in order, but I do recommend it. The author’s style of writing is appealing to me. The character names are his way of putting a little humor into the story. Cinderella Rivera really?

 

So I went on a search myself. You wouldn’t believe it but YES there are hundreds of people named Cinderella, 32 in fact named Cinderella Smith. I also found

 

 

 

OK jokes aside we now know how far people will go to get power. Corruption, lies and accusation seem to be the new norm. In this novel the deceit and corruption angles in the plot are very believable. The agenda for most is selfish political aspirations. Being so intent on discovering facts, Beck the above average investigator, is in the midst of uncovering things that are not to be uncovered. Can I say Drain the Swamp ?  For me this is just about every news story.

If you look into the plot, especially concerning political corruption, that is where the gem lies! Overall very good writing, plot and characters. Although the Supreme Court Justice’s death was top priority for Beck, we do find other plot aspects are overlooked. For example, how it almost told that the death is “natural cause”. So do you think it is true? NO that is the beauty of it. When they ask “do you have a refrigerator for this body ?”, I laughed out loud. These little parts are key to enjoying the outcome.

I think just to start, judge the cover. What a disaster. I dont know why you would publish such rubbish to begin with, but she did. She has the weakest synopsis ever! She describes it an a historically based epic WOW? wth 

Saga of four generations of a family in the 13th century, with a historic basis. A family with a deadly secret in a dangerous time in the world .

Historically based epic of the Magdalene bloodline, a family of healers. The question is will they survive? This book rates 5 stars on Amazon. Wow she wrote that in the description. So let us examine these testaments of greatness shall we??

There was a time or two back in Kashmir when I stood at the entrance to Roza Bal tomb and thought “What if…” an entire bloodline had survived and remained hidden and obscured for centuries. I thought these things but never found the words to write them down. Sandra wrote this theme- but in an extraordinary way…What Sandra Gallimore has achieved is a masterpiece of creative writing. It is not only that she told such a story, but she did so with incredible skill, compassion, and true writing genius. This is the book you want to take to the beach- or curl up by the fireside to read…Kudos, Sandra…this is a well written creation reflecting your wonderful skills and talent. This is a story set in the 1200s. Lots of history of the Catholic Church, it’s Love of power and it’s failings to Christ. I’m a Catholic woman and am working through so many misgivings of my faith. BUT this book is a wonderful story of Mary Magdeline’s descendants and how they have tried to keep her true story and loving heart and discipleship alive through the generations despite the jealousy of the male church leaders. From Magdeline down the line, the First daughter has inherited not only MM’s looks but also a special ability in herb healing, visions or life changing and saving touches. Jongleur is born of a rape by a man who raped and killed his grandmother, killed his grandfather and years later raped his mother, impregnated her and left her beaten and barely alive. A riveting tale of the inquisition, strong women, love, sacrifice and revenge. You will feel all those emotions reading this. I didn’t want the story to end and I think that is the highest compliment any reader can give an author.

Political Dirty Trick: A Crystal Moore Suspense (Volume 3) by James R Callan @jamesrcallan

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! So much so I went back and bought book 1 and 2 of The Crystal Moore Series. The characters were written really well. Eula, was a southern woman with a rifle! Hilarious even though it was serious. Crystal has my heart. She is a well rounded Public Relation rep with a fantastic way of coming through as lovable.

 

Ron Drake our election hero is running for Governor of Texas just because he wants it to be great. The other characters I cant speak of now due to spoilers, so suffice it to say Ginnie was ruthless. She was evil, just plain evil, yet I did like her. I felt that she was put together with half good/bad and so impressionable.

If you like clean, mystery novels with a twist, then YES buy it now. Obviously I didnt read them in order, but for this one there is no need to. I also loved the way the author keeps it as a series, but standalone too. There is not a lot of repeating things for the characters to keep you up to date EITHER.

I’m on a roll of choosing absolutely the worst things to read. This is 4 for the week. First off it is dual timeline/chapters! It’s hard for me to enjoy that. Second it is babble. Third it is written in and about the UK so the wording and slang killed it for me. Usually I don’t complain about names but I read another book that had names like this one that were just no appealing. I feel like I am a nit picker but…..It is a $2.99 book with a lot of 5 star reviews. Leading me to think I am a bit off.

Trying to write a novel was one characters objective. She had writers block I guess. That wasn’t clear either. The title is “A gripping emotional page turner” STOP you don’t get an emotional anything. No page turning action, just frustration.

Not only that but I saw all these reviews that are stellar and contain the book jacket. I personally HATE reviews that are just the synopsis. Tell me why you love it. Tell me what grabbed you. PLEASE anything but the book jacket!

I tried pretty hard with this one. Based on the title I was really expecting a drama with angst and love. I got a lot of weird UK sort of slang, no drama, and alternating chapters of past and present with characters too. Gosh it was pure babble. It felt like a teenager trying hard to make their word count higher on a paper that they did no research for.

Sadly I got just about 20% and gave up
