Inevitable by Nicola Haken @NicolaHaken #spotlight

inevitable cover 18105749

Thanks to her mother’s unstable moods and knack for making bad decisions, seventeen year old Maddie Davis has never lived in one place long enough to remember its postcode. A life spent running and caring for her wayward mother has turned British-born Maddie into the strong, outspoken and independent girl she is today – if not a little lonely. This time, running away is a whole new ballgame. For the first time her mum is not just dragging her to a different town – but a whole new country. It is only when they arrive in sunny California to be near Trudy – an old friend of her mum’s – Maddie starts to hope they’ve reached their final destination. For the first time she dreams of a future. She makes friends, commits to an education and meets a boy who has the potential to steal her heart… and break it even faster.

Trudy’s stepson Blaine Elwood appears to have it all. To the outside world quarterback Blaine is rich, confident and has the ‘arrogant bad boy’ image down to a tee. But nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. Nobody ever can. He has vowed never to let anyone get too close – let anyone discover how weak he is. So when new girl Maddie starts tugging at strings he didn’t know existed in his heart, his only option is to push her away – until he realises how much he needs her.

Maddie and Blaine are heading for a future neither of them dreamed of – a happy one. But then, not only are Blaine’s issues at home intensifying, he discovers a shocking secret that could either send Maddie back running and force her out of his life forever, or pull them closer than they’ve ever been before. Will their shattered secrets leave too many broken shards to piece back together, or was their love inevitable from the start?

Saving Amy by Nicola Haken @NicolaHaken #review

17997518

If I can give more than 5 stars I would. So many reasons to love this book. I get into angst, it is what draws me in a lot of the time.

Can anybody save Amy, or has she finally reached the end of a very long, torturous road?

Long list here but the main character Amelia Hope, aka Amy, she is so realistic. I really got into her as the victim. The books takes you on a journey from her teen years to adult hood. She has several areas in the book where the author takes you back to her as a 5 to 9 year old. Very rich story with tons of agnst, abuse, lies, deceit and drugs.

This girl has really one best friend who is a constant, Julie. The other constants are sadly abuse, drugs and alcohol. The complex character that Amy is could be hard for people to read. I loved her. I loved how the author created Amy’s thinking to be objective and proactive. I mean that she has only Julie so therefore she had no real reason to create all of these elaborate schemes. She has nobody to lie to and certainly nobody to question her. She covered her actions, family life, depression and self destruction well.

When the author introduces Richard Lewis, the ER physician, brought in as a result of Amy’s hospital visit. It was an apparent he was different. Being an ER doctor, he has seen hundreds of teens come in with drugs overdoses, accidents and alcohol poisoning. This is where he is different. Something grabbed him about Amy from the moment he saw her. I cant give a spoiler, but there is a turn of events that scared the absolute shit out of me.

 My Dr. Richard Lewis

Richard brings a new dynamic and changes his perspective on getting involved with a patient. He goes above the call of duty to help Amy. She is not just another patient, he takes a serious interest in her and somehow he knows what her troubles are and how she has lied. He tries so hard to get her to see that he really wants to help her.

The truth comes out in several moments.Oh My GOOOOD

The next big thing for me was that BOTH of them were affected by addiction in one way or another. I dont want to say that one was more or less. I think the ways these addictions touched both of them and how the dealt with it was unique. The author shows that whether it is direct or indirect, their issues create a vacuum in which their friends, family and co-workers will be stuck in the vortex with them. It wont be your typical read where you think “Oh the Doctor will save her and a nice happily ever after” NOPE not this one.

While Richard was great he was not perfect. His family and what appears on the outside were perfect. I was thrilled that we saw he was flawed as well. Not nearly as bad as Amy, but it was nice to see how different he was compared to other characters I have recently read. While I would have enjoyed the book without his flaws, I totally LOVED it that he was a little chipped and broken.

A few important things I saw was Amy always had a plan created to go about her getting in and out of her house. The way she missed the squeaky floor board to sneak out before her Dad left for work was ingenious. It was little things like this that get you caught up and literally at the edge of your seat so scared she will get caught.

Michelle Lynn

Michelle Lynn has always been a reader, but her passion has become a full-blown addiction since her husband bought her a Kindle for Mother’s Day. She’s pretty sure that he regrets this on a regular basis. Especially when she has it propped up next to the stove while she cooks, which often results in a burnt dinner. Or when he loses sleep because the glow from the screen wakes him up when he rolls over at three in the morning. He does agree, however, that she uses this gift more than any other he has ever gotten her. She joking counters that, because of some of the steamy novels she reads, he also benefits more from this gift than any other he has gotten her. 😉

Michelle moved around the Midwest most of her life, transferring from school to school before settling down in the outskirts of Chicago ten years ago, where she now resides with her husband and two kids. She developed a love of reading at a young age, which helped lay the foundation for her passion to write. With the encouragement of her family, she finally sat down and wrote one of the many stories that have been floating around in her head. When she isn’t reading or writing, she can be found playing with her kids, talking to her mom on the phone, or hanging out with her family and friends. But after chasing around twin preschoolers all day, she always cherishes her relaxation time after putting the kids to bed.

Grant is damaged, selfish, and undeserving of love…or so he thinks.

Grant and Jessa can’t stop thinking about one another since being introduced at a party a month ago. And despite their differences, they can’t seem to stay away from each other either. However, both are hiding secrets of less-than-perfect pasts, fearing what will happen when those mistakes come to light. As they grow closer, they each battle their own insecurities, and neither believes that they are worthy of the kind of love that they both still want. The Temptation of Lila and Ethan by Jessica Sorensen @jessFallenStar #excerpt

On the surface, Lila Summers is flawless: good looks, expensive clothes, and a big, beautiful smile. But a dark past and even darker secrets are threatening to bubble over her perfect façade. She’ll do anything to keep the emptiness inside hidden-which leads her into situations that always end badly. Whenever she hits bottom, there’s only one person who’s there to pull her out: Ethan Gregory.

Ethan set the rules a long time ago: he and Lila are just friends. He doesn’t do relationships. Although his tattooed, bad boy exterior is a far cry from Lila’s pretty princess image, Ethan can’t deny they have a deeper connection than he’s used to. If he’s not careful, he could be in serious danger of becoming attached-and he’s learned the hard way that attachment only leads to heartbreak.

When Lila falls farther than she ever has before, can Ethan continue to help as a friend? Or is he also getting close to falling . . . for her

The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessica Sorensen, lives in the snowy mountains of Wyoming. When she’s not writing, she spends her time reading and hanging out with her family.

“Why do you think it’s so hard to be alone?” Lila asks, struggling to keep her eyes open as she gazes out at the night sky through the cab window.

I’m turned sideways in the seat, with my knee up, so I’m facing her, even though she won’t look at me. I lost count of how many shots we had hours ago and I can barely comprehend

how we got to a cab—stumbling, laughing, as she rubbed her hand up the front of my jeans. No, that can’t be right, can it?

“I think being alone is fan-fucking-tastic. . . well, maybe . . .sometimes . . .” I mumble, draping my arm on the back of the seat. I stare at her for a moment, taking in her bare skin in the

moonlight. I want to touch it. Lick it. Even bite it.

I’m bursting with sexual energy and I channel it to my foot on the floor, bouncing my knee. There’s something different about tonight, something out of the ordinary, this strange need

to keep getting closer to Lila. It could be the alcohol. Or it could be something else, but there’s no way my tequila-soaked mind is going to reach any sort of answer.

Lila turns her head toward me, her pupils wide and shiny. “Why are you staring at me like that?”

I keep tapping my foot on the floor, trying to think of a better answer than the first one that pops into my head, but I can’t find one. “Because I’m thinking about you.”

She glances at the cab driver, a thirtyish guy wearing a baseball cap, and then her gaze lands back on me. She sucks her lip into her teeth and I have to bounce my knee faster or I swear I’m going to fucking lose it. “Thinking what about me?” she asks, looking wary, interested, and exhausted.

Don’t say it . . . “I was thinking about what it would be like to lick you . . . or bite you . . . either one really.” It seems like I should regret it as soon as I say it, but regret is nowhere in my

reach at the moment.

Her breathing quickens and her voice comes out shockingly unsteady for someone who has sex so much. “Then do it.”

I blink, wondering if I heard her right through the massive amount of alcohol consuming my thoughts. “What?”

She holds my gaze steadily, even though she seems really nervous, her voice trembling. “Then bite me. Or lick me…whatever you want.”

It Ain’t Easy Being Jazzy by Quanie Miller @QuanieMiller #review @ladyreaderstuff

If you love chick lit this is for you. I can say this is a romantic comedy at a high point. Truly funny Jazzy wants to reunite with Curtis, who is an ex boyfriend. It is sort of funny how I got totally excited when Curtis tells her he had news”that he needs to share. I was like oh my maybe they will get back together. NO and I am not giving spoilers but he is with her cousin Mercedes who she hates, and I in turn hate too!

The funniest part was when Jazzy meets Reggie and figures he can be her escape. If she had Reggie with her then Mercedes and her engagement wont hurt too much. She thinks maybe this big old family dinner may even be pleasant with Reggie as a distraction. It makes everyone think she is taken. It seems like a great plan in the beginning. Right away things happen causing me to really laugh too hard!

Take a trip with this hysterical family. I loved Jazzy, her family is crazy and I can totally see this as a series. Authors like Quanie Miller provide us with a true escape. Sometimes books like Jazzy come along and you should tell a friend! READ IT Things are really not “easy” being Jazzy!
