Breeze Of Life by Kirsty Dallas @kirstydallas #review @bookslapped

Review:

Bree ‘Breeze’ Delany was the strongest character for her age that I have read. She was amazing! The premise of the story was her best friend Harper who was also her room mate was away on a surfing tour. She found out she has  leukemia and kept the secret. There are brief past references thrown in to show exactly why she never contacted Harper.

happy thumbs up

It is a very emotional read. Kirsty Dallas tells beautiful tale. It is going through the stages of grief and show the opposite of what people normally write about a cancer incident. I loved the way Bree was negative. It is refreshing to read someone actually saying “the hell with it” and not being a fighter. She was a complex character who was indifferent at times.

When the story gets deep is when you love Harper even more. Her neighbor and surrogate dad David was phenomenal  He took great care of her and she would have totally given up without him. It is a great tale of life and how to live it. It is a story that can NOT be missed. Treat yourself and dive in with Harper!

I’m just a little Aussie girl with a big imagination, so much to write and so little time to do it. When I’m not writing (or reading) I am kept smiling and sane (for the most part) by my 5 year old daughter. She is the light in my world.  I have a wonderfully supportive family who keep me completely grounded, trust me, they will never let any success go to my head!! And I love them for it.

I enjoy ice cold ciders, barbeques  music and art. I hate cooking, in fact I think I have major kitchen allergies. My feet rarely grace anything other than flip-flops or uggies. Even in the middle of a hot Aussie summer I wear jeans and I adore tattoos on men & women (not so much children).

To sum me up in a few words (and you know how hard just a few words is for an author) ~ easy going, laid back, dreamy and passionate. I hope you all love reading my novels as much as I love writing them.

Synopsis:

Recommended for 17 years+. This book contains language which some may find offensive and sexual situations.

Bree ‘Breeze’ Delany never imagined her life could sink so deep. That such intense pain could take up residence in her heart and shred her soul to pieces. And all it had taken was one little word to drag Bree to the depths of this despair, cancer.

It took just one person to pull Bree from the darkness, her best friend Harper Somerville. Determined to show his Breeze the beauty in life no matter how short or long it is, Harper takes Bree on the road trip of a life time.

Not only does Harper remind Bree how exciting and beautiful life is, but he also shows her a passion and love that she has only read about in her naughty romance novels.

Screw happily ever afters, perhaps life was meant to be lived with happily ever nows…

Moody Not Broody by Kathryn Player @funnyiswrite #review

To start I will say I have read and enjoyed every Nicola May book. I also read a few Ellie Campbell books so I like my “across the pond ladies”. This was not an exception. I need to remind others that the punctuation is different as well as the quotations. Just a pet peeve that people need to point out so I can say I can’t stand when people make negative comments like that or complain that they didn’t get the phrases.

So moving on this was a cute book with a sort of deep subject. Being the book is at the start of a marriage and all that is trying at the beginning it seems strange to say I got it! I liked the added fluff, so it was not as serious. I liked the main character Emma. Her dilemma was regarding children. I know when you get married a lot of times people start right off asking when you are planning a family. Her husband Mike was also well received. I understood her point of working with challenging kids. I mean if you sit there all day and see first hand the detriment, why have a child. She obviously saw the parent and kids and all the struggles.

The author give a balance and fills the void in Emma’s voice. She did it pretty good too. The author created a love/hate for me with Emma. Sometimes I wanted to hug her and sometimes I wanted to

 VirtualBitchslap

I really enjoyed this story and I would say my chick lit fans will too! I can’t wait for her second book.

Blogger Girl by Meredith Schorr @MeredithSchorr #review

A favorite chick lit author has done it again! This is the most fitting cover. I love the graphics and the colors. Nicholas has his trademark stubbles in the picture too!

Having read Meredith’s other book and being a huge chick lit fan I knew I would love this. So if it is your genre and you adore chick lit then this is a sure thing, 5 star, gushing sort of read. What I loved the most was being a blogger I totally related to Kim. She was in a lack luster job and the bright spot was her books. She read everywhere even on the toilet in a restaurant. How can you not fall for a girl like that?

He is what you need to know: no matter what just HATE Hannah Marshak!  Then, after, and only after hating Hannah, please want to smack Erin who is Kim’s sister. Every phone call asking if she heard of or read Hannahs book made me want to force 12 dunkin donut munchkins in her big mouth.

bitch1

Being a book blogger, Kimberly Long describes all of the ups and downs of blogging. I found it a delight. I am having a fan girl moments. I also thought in my little mind that Meredith was writing about me. Kim has a great friend and boss in Rob. She dishes it to him and I loved it. She is a legal secretary in a Manhattan law firm. When she is not busy she blogs and updates twitter and facebook. I laugh because, like I mentioned she is me and I am her!

When her high school reunion is coming up she gets a friend request from the “nemesis”. So many things happen to make her question what seems like life altering moments “Do I accept her friend request on Facebook?” Poor Kim ponders it over and over. When she has the conversation with Nicholas (oh my big swoon) he advises her.

ea92d-bigswoon

Let us discuss Nicholas. He is a handsome (and shaving challenged) associate down the hall. She has crushed on him for a while. Their story is so sweet, then it hits rock bottom. A little tear!

She questions her life and being a “blogger girl”. She has aspirations but just doesn’t realize them. I say go read it NOW and enjoy it. Whether you love book review blog or are a blogger yourself you will find so much humor. Meredith is one talented girl. I will confess I got it and told her that I read it so fast and felt bad about the confession. I think it is a great compliment when it takes almost a year (oh my) to write a book and someone does nothing but devour it in a day at the beach. That is me, Renee, aka Kim…hehehehe This is Renee reporting for Pastel is the new Black!

A favorite chick lit author has done it again! This is the most fitting cover. I love the graphics and the colors. Nicholas has his trademark stubbles in the picture too!

What happens when your high school nemesis becomes the shining star in a universe you pretty much saved? Book blogger Kimberly Long is about to find out.

A chick lit enthusiast since the first time she read Bridget Jones’s Diary, Kim, with her blog, “Pastel is the New Black,” has worked tirelessly by night to keep the genre alive, and help squash the claim that “chick lit is dead” once and for all. Not bad for a woman who by day makes out a meager living as a pretty, and pretty-much-nameless, legal secretary in a Manhattan law firm.

While Kim’s day job holds no passion for her, the handsome (and shaving challenged) associate down the hall is another story. Yet another story is that Hannah Marshak, one of her most hated high school classmates, has now popped onto the chick lit scene with a hot new book that’s turning heads–and pages–across the land. It’s also popped into Kim’s inbox–for review. With their ten-year high school reunion drawing near, Kim’s coming close to combustion over the hype about Hannah’s book. And as everyone around her seems to be moving on and up, she begins to question whether being a “blogger girl” makes the grade in her off-line life.

The Best Man’s Baby by Victoria James @entangledpub @vicjames101 #spotlight #excerpt

Florist Claire Holbrook has always played by the rules her entire life, but breaks them to spend one night with sexy lone wolf Jake Manning, a man she’s adored since she was a teenager. Six weeks later, things get complicated when she discovers they created a bond that will last a lifetime
Jake has never played by the rules. Getting Minister Holbrook’s daughter pregnant wasn’t part of any life plan, but he won’t run from his responsibilities. He’ll step up and be the best man he can, even if he doesn’t have a clue where to begin. The more time he spends with Claire, though, the more he wants her, and the harder it is to get close, because that would mean sharing the one thing he hasn’t with anyone–the truth and his heart.

Prologue
“To Holly and Quinn,” Jake Manning said, holding up his champagne flute.
Claire Holbrook raised her glass, toasting to her best friend and her new husband. Holly’s cheeks were flushed with an unbridled happiness. Her eyes glistened with tears, and her smile hadn’t wavered all day. Holly had claimed love, Quinn, and happily ever after.
“Welcome to the family,” Evan Manning said, leaning down to give Holly a kiss.
“You’re the only woman I’d wear a tux for,” Jake said, giving Holly a hug.
Claire’s heart dipped, but she held her smile intact. And she should. Today wasn’t about Claire and her ridiculous, lifelong crush on Jake Manning. Or the fact that he’d basically just said he’d never wear a tuxedo again, which pretty much meant he was never intending on getting married. She forced those thoughts aside and focused on these last few minutes with the bride and groom.
“It was a gorgeous day. Everything was perfect,” Claire said with a smile, her eyes taking in the Edwardian ballroom again. The event had been straight out of an issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. The ceremony in the charming chapel had been poignant, and the reception a true celebration of the couple’s new life together. But now that the night was coming to an end, only a few guests were still meandering around the ballroom. The live band was playing soft music, and Holly and Quinn’s daughter, Ella, was dancing with a few children on the dance floor. The five of them were standing together for one last chat before Quinn and Holly left for the night.
“Thank you all for everything. Claire, you’ve always been like a sister to me. Evan and Jake, you’ve made me feel like family right from day one and I will never, ever forget that. I never thought I’d have a family again—and now I have one that is better than I could have imagined,” she said, tears filling her eyes. Quinn wrapped his arms around her from behind, still holding his champagne flute. Her friend leaned back into her husband. They were perfect for each other, and anyone who saw them together knew it. Felt it. Today all of Holly’s dreams had come true. She had married the man she’d loved since she was a teenager.
“To the best men,” Holly said, smiling and holding up her glass to Evan and Jake. Quinn’s brothers had shared the honored position, and Claire spent the day being sandwiched between the two of them as maid of honor.
“To the best men,” Claire said.
“And to the maid of honor,” Quinn said, smiling at her.
