Emerge (Evolve Series #1) by S.E. Hall @Emergeauthor #review

Book Synopsis:
It’s Round Two of high stakes Love Connection on Olympus, and this time, everything has changed. For Aphrodite, at least.
Ares is on deck, and Aphrodite is nervous. As much as she loves to hook up with him, she doesn’t trust him as far as she could throw him, which isn’t very far. He’s a big dude. They haven’t been together in a very long time, but she can’t resist him. She never could. Even when every part of her screamed that he was a liar.
He has a plan to keep Aphrodite, for good this time. He wants to win the game, but he’ll hold back to get what he wants. He’s sitting on a chance that he’s been waiting thousands of years for, and he’ll do what he has to do to convince her to stay forever.
The only thing that could stop him is the secret that he’s been keeping from her for eons. If she finds out, it will destroy everything.
Aphrodite is getting crap for her choice in player, because from the outside, it looks like a match that would never work.
Kat and Dillon have been through a lot, and everything has been to protect their younger siblings. They sacrificed everything to make sure their brother and sister would be safe. The players are tough and loyal.
Fierce and determined. But they become each other’s weakness, even though they fight it, and even though it means danger for Kat and her sister.
If Aphrodite can get the players over their egos long enough to see that they’re meant for each other, this competition will be a piece of cake. One that she’ll eat a la mode, right in front of Ares, if she beats him.

Author Bio:
Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom; she has three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife; even though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f, ends with k, and there a uc in there.
From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics. But let’s be honest, she’s mostly writing.

About the book:
Growing up in small town Wisconsin, Carly Turner couldn’t wait to escape when she graduated high school. Now, she’s living the life in New York City, even if she isn’t seeing her name in lights like she used to dream about at night. She’s living paycheck-to-paycheck, working behind the scenes in small theaters off Broadway. When there’s an equipment malfunction the week before opening night, Carly makes a call that winds up changing everything.
Life in the city isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. While she feels like she’s getting closer to making the move from behind the scenes to center stage, she misses being surrounded by people who understand the quirks that come from living in a town of five thousand people. That, and the fact that he’s sexy as sin, make Adam everything she feels like she’s missing.
The only problem? He’s her best friend’s kid brother…
Adam Sanders wants to settle down, find a good woman and start a family like he sees so many of his friends doing. But how is he supposed to meet Ms. Right when he’s constantly on the road for work? When he’s sent to New York to handle a repair that would typically be contracted out as a favor to his boss, he’s just about to his breaking point.
Everything changes when the stagehand sent to open the theater for him is none other than his big sister’s childhood friend. The same girl he lusted after as a teenager. Could this be fate’s way of showing him that he was looking in the wrong place for love?
As Adam and Carly’s friendship develops, lines will be crossed and rules will be broken. Will they be able to come out the other side without destroying everything they had back in Brooklyn?
About this author
With the exception of three years spent in the middle of Nebraska, H.B. Heinzer has called southern Wisconsin home. During that time in Nebraska, she imagined one of her favorite authors living on the far western edge of the county, just south of the highway. At the time, becoming a novelist was a distant dream for her. Now, she is the author living in that location. Ironically, she later found out that same favorite author lives just outside the town HB lived in for the first eighteen years of her life.
Now, HB lives in the middle of nowhere but still close enough to the city to not feel isolated. It’s the perfect place to let her two kids run and explore their huge yard, teach them about the food chain as they prepare their first-ever garden and debate building a chicken coop. It’s one of those dreams that is only possible thanks to the amazing opportunities that have come through writing.

Exclusive interview with the author:
1) Which authors/books are you most influenced by?
When I was a kid, I love Madeline Le Engle and her amazing book A Wrinkle in Time. It was the first book to really transport me to another world(literally). As I got older and began writing, I realized how hard she had to work to find a publisher willing to take a risk on her work. I’m so glad she believed in her work enough to keep going even when everyone turned her down.
2) If Oprah invited you onto her show to talk about your book, what would the theme of the show be?
The Trouble With Twin Sisters!
3) Since becoming a writer, what’s the most exciting thing to ever happen to you?
My second book Shackled was nominated for the prestigious Benjamin Franklin Award and I went to the awards gala to find out who won in New York City! I felt so privileged to be there!
4) When did you start to write? What motivated you? What was your first story about?
I’ve always dabbled in writing but I began writing my first full length novel in 2010. I was motivated by my son who when in struggling with a really hard class claimed that “I never done anything really hard like he was doing.” Realizing he wasn’t alive when I struggled through college, I promised him I would write a book so he could see me doing something that was super tough for me. Seven months later Unbreakable Love was finished. Unbreakable Love is a tender love story about a guardian angel that has to save the girl he loves, but cannot touch her or tell her who he is.
5) What genre have you not yet written but really want to try?
I’ve actually already started on a futuristic trilogy and I’m so excited to try my hand at something so different than my first three contemporary books!

Blurb:
Dawn Ellis needs to escape from her painfully dull existence. Her unemployed husband spends all day complaining about life, moping around, or fixing lawnmowers on her kitchen table. The local writing class proves to be an adequate distraction with its eccentric collection of wannabe authors and, of course, the enigmatic Jason, who soon shows a romantic interest in her.
Dawn pours her inner frustrations into her first novel about the extraordinary exploits of Cinnamon Knight, an avenging angel — a woman who doesn’t believe in following the rules. Cinnamon is ruthless and wanton, inflicting suffering on any man who warrants it. Little does Dawn realize that soon the line between reality and fiction will blur. Her own life will be transformed, and those close to her will pay the price. Find out what happens in Just Add Spice by best-selling author Carol E Wyer.

Biography
Ellie Campbell is a pseudonym for sisters, Pam Burks and Lorraine Campbell. The two youngest of four girls, the ‘wee ones’ as they were called were raised in Scotland until as teens their parents moved the family down to Sussex. From high school, they went straight to working in London, armed with marginal secretarial skills and dedicated themselves to exploring the party scene when not taking off a year or two to travel the world.
Pam now lives in Surrey with her husband and three children where she divides her time between writing, family, her allotment, a part-time job and chasing down her writing partner and big sister, Lorraine. After leaving her publishing job for a life of adventure, Lorraine spent many happy years jaunting around South and Central America, Polynesia, India etc, lived for three years in France and then sailed the Caribbean as the world’s worst charter cook. She finally settled in Colorado with a husband, three horses and a dog.

All through school tomboy Jen, snobby Georgina, hippy Meg and gentle Rowan were inseparable. But when a childish prank turned bad their friendship was torn apart.
Twelve years later Rowan organised a reunion dinner and all did not go well. Rowan never appeared; Georgina’s shocking secret was revealed; Meg behaved outrageously; and Jen finally decided it was time to move on. And that’s just what she did for the following ten years …
Until now, when in the midst of her divorce Jen receives a desperate call from Meg. On a personal mission to track down Rowan, Meg manages to convince Georgina and Jen to put aside their differences and help her. But none of them even begin to imagine the extent to which their loyalties will be tested as their past finally catches up with them.

In a recent survey 65% of mothers admitted feeling undervalued, over-criticized and constantly tired.
Cathy is no exception. Her dull, uneventful days as a stay at home, mother of two, are radically transformed however with the arrival of a heavily lipsticked postcard addressed to husband, Declan. Who is the mysterious La La? Could Declan really be having an affair? And is Cathy actually being stalked?
Whatever – it will definitely prove riveting gossip for the Tuesday Twice Monthlies, Cathy’s ‘Mothers Restaurant Research’ group where scandal flows as recklessly as the wine. But what starts as a light-hearted investigation with best friend Raz, soon turns into something much more sinister.
With a possible murderer on the scene, a sexy admirer igniting long-forgotten sparks, and all her friends hiding secrets, it’s not only Cathy’s marriage that’s in jeopardy. Add in the scheming antics of Declan’s new assistant, the stress of organizing the school Save The Toilet’s dance and the stage is set for a dangerous showdown and some very unsettling, possibly deadly, revelations.
