Review:

The start of the book was between present and flashbacks of a horrible airplane crash.  This put the time and place together with the current situation. The glue that held the Onion Island crew together was Helen. They gather for her wake and funeral. It is there when Jillian. along with twins Oliver and Alexander, reunite after seven years of not seeing each other. There is a paranormal aspect to the book and it ties them all together. Jillian recalls vague memories of having “seizures” this is the way Helen and the others explained what happens to her. It was a vision and she is more clairvoyant.

Then to bring together this sort of triangle is the sexy Professor Paul Black. He is Jillian’s law school professor. Something is there and it is not professional but Jillian has a lot of trouble coming to terms with the visions.  She needs to focus and not let the tension draw her away.

It is a very VERY unique book. There are many aspects of danger, clairvoyance, and secrets.  Scared for her life and needing to focus on one person is her goal. Who? READ it and find out. Very enjoyable with the right balance or paranormal and mystery. I give 5 stars because for ME it was the right paranormal element and it did the job without scaring me.

Book Description:

A love triangle just wouldn’t suffice; Jillian Stone had the ‘misfortune’ of getting herself into a love square– with twins, nonetheless.

Alexander, Oliver, and Jillian were raised on a deserted island. For 12 years, all they knew were those that were marooned with them. A strong bond would link them forever. At 12 years old, they are all rescued and clairvoyant Jillian is immediately shipped off to boarding school. Ten years later, she is reunited with her twins at the funeral of Helen, the woman who “mothered” them while on the island. The innocent and childhood feelings they shared on the island…well, they aren’t so innocent anymore.  Her scrawny gangly twins are now grown men.  Oliver, the ever-loyal friend and Alexander the ultimate bad-boy, have her heart in a tug-a-war.

Enter, mysteriously sexy Professor Paul Black. He’s Jillian’s law school professor and she has caught his attention, albeit inappropriate.  All the while, Jillian’s clairvoyance is wreaking havoc on her life as visions of a redheaded man are becoming all consuming. The dangerous man in her visions is searching for her and has a big secret to share with her about her time on the island as well as about her psychic abilities. Scared for her life, all three men try to protect her, but she must chose one in order to focus on the problem at hand—the redheaded man’s secret.

Seeing Red is a romance with some paranormal elements and some suspense and a lot of sexual tension.

Proximity

CHAPTER 8

I regained consciousness with my face still resting against his chest, rejoicing at its steady rise and fall.  His heart thumped powerfully in my ear, and I paused there to listen to the most wonderful sound imaginable.  I would have been content to daydream there for hours, but I snapped back into reality as a low groan resonated in Eric’s chest.  I quickly pushed myself up and scooted back to sit a few feet away from him, suddenly uncomfortable with physical contact.

Eric reached his hand up to rub the side of his head as he slowly propped himself up with the opposite elbow.  His eyes passed over the contents of the cramped shed, coming to rest on my face.

“Palta?” he asked, the confusion plainly visible on his face.

I hesitated momentarily, preoccupied with the fact that he knew my name.  “Yes?”  I finally managed to speak.

Regaining his polished composure, he lowered his hand and pushed up to a seated position.  With a polite tone, he said, “Forgive me, Palta—but I seem to be having difficulty recalling how we got here…”

“How’s your head?” I asked, as he reached up again to massage the side of his scalp.  “You took quite a blow.”

He lowered his eyes, tilting his head to the side and creasing his forehead for a moment as he considered the idea.  Eventually he collected himself again as he looked back up toward the door.  We both realized simultaneously that the light through the tiny window was beginning to fade to night.

Eric began to shift his weight to stand, but faltered as he stumbled backward into the cabinet behind him.

“Sit back down,” I urged him.  “You’re still weak…You lost a lot of blood.”

Suddenly he froze, his eyes now wide with alarm as he focused on my left shoulder.  I looked down to see the conspicuous patch of orange beginning to dry on my sleeve.

I looked back up at his face, still frozen with shock, with an anxious tension in my eyes.  I waited for a moment, then sighed aloud with the thought of what I was about to do.   Tentatively, I raised my hand and touched my fingertips to my right temple.  Diverting my eyes away from his, I slowly swept my bangs up and back, carefully tucking the strands behind my ear.  After a long pause, I shifted my eyes back to meet his gaze.

Eyes still wide, he swallowed hard as he took in the sight of me.  Then, with a startling jolt, he turned and darted toward the door.  I sat motionless as the sound of his footsteps pounding on the pavement rapidly receded into the distance.

I stayed there for several minutes, utterly spent, mulling over the images in my mind.  I was used to the unusual—but this evening had gone well beyond unusual.  My mind settled on two concerning realities:

Firstly, the sight of my ears could definitely clear a room.

Secondly—and much more disturbingly—Eric Moran was deathly afraid of me.

Book Blurb-

Dr. Palta Capal would be a typical American career woman…if only she were human. She has found her calling in this world as a physician. It’s an ideal outlet for her compassionate spirit…and unearthly healing powers. Palta may spend her nights rereading Jane Austen novels, but she deliberately avoids pursuing her own love story. Human men — attractive as they may be — inevitably grow old and wither, leaving her to grieve in solitude. Frankly, no one has seemed worth the torment.

Enter Eric Moran, the intensely attractive and enigmatic new coworker on the scene. With his quiet confidence and warm smile, he manages to draw Palta’s attention. Little does she know that he, too, holds a secret…one that will propel them both into an escalating collision of two worlds.

Friends with Partial Benefits By Luke Young @lukeyoungbooks *excerpts*

Cover (3)

Excerpt from Friends With Partial Benefits

Jillian Grayson sat up in bed, typing away on the keyboard of her laptop computer. She wore a nightshirt that wasn’t all that sexy, but what she was typing was… or at least it started out that way…

Dallas lay in bed, unable to sleep and wondering if Katrina was suffering the same fate—and for the very same reason. Did she want him as much as he wanted her? Katrina was but a few steps away, yet he dare not go to her, for he was a guest, and then there was Katrina’s mother, who was just across the hall. For Dallas, sleep came minutes later, but it would be short- lived, for soon Katrina stood over him, completely nude and pondering how to proceed…

Dallas must have been in a deep sleep, since he didn’t feel it when Katrina peeled the sheet carefully off him, exposing his muscular body, six-pack abs, and sizeable manhood. She quivered when his impressiveness sprang into view. For a long time, she kneeled next to the bed, just studying his body and savoring his scent. Taking his sex into her hand, Katrina worked it until it was rigid while she watched him sleep. When Dallas woke, he looked into her eyes, swallowed hard, and whispered, “I’ve been waiting for you.”

Just as fast as his sex expanded, it lost its firmness and flopped against his leg. Katrina looked down at it in disappointment and then moaned in frustration. “What’s wrong?”

Dallas said sheepishly, “Sometimes that happens to me. Sorry. Ever since I cheated on my wife with that whore in the pool, I haven’t been able to—

Jillian stopped typing and thought she might be heading in the wrong direction with this. How did her ex-husband get into the story? But then again, most men are assholes, she thought.

Picking up the glass of wine from her nightstand, she took a long sip and then replaced it. She highlighted the last paragraph about Dallas’s problem, hit one key, and it was gone. Just like his boner. She laughed out loud.

Jillian wasn’t exactly in the correct frame of mind to write at the moment, especially on this particular subject. She stared straight ahead and wondered about the likelihood of Dallas slipping in the shower, striking his head, and dying instantly. Or maybe an earthquake could strike, and Dallas’s amazingly perfect body would be trapped under a giant beam.

What the hell kind of name was Dallas anyway? She thought she might want to give her character a real name like Stewart but figured no one would believe that a guy named Stewart could give you six consecutive orgasms in one night.

What was she doing, anyway, writing novels about people having amazing sex when she’d never had any? Okay, maybe once or twice twenty years ago, but none since then. She had no right. If people knew that she was the one writing these books, they wouldn’t buy them. She was a fraud.

Jillian picked up her wineglass and took another long drink. She grinned, wiped those unhelpful thoughts from her mind, and started typing again…

Katrina took his sex in her hand and worked it until it was rigid. As she studied it closely, Katrina noticed two red bumps on the underside of his pathetic excuse for a penis. She recoiled in horror

Jillian hit the backspace key to erase everything after Dallas’s “sex” started expanding. Romance novels about erectile dysfunction and STDs weren’t exactly big sellers. She closed the lid on the laptop and tossed it gently onto a pillow at the foot of the bed. She emptied her wineglass with one last sip and turned on the television.

Book One: Earthbound Angels
Written by Elizabeth Corrigan
Carrie works at a diner in South Philadelphia, dispensing advice to humans and angels wise enough to seek her counsel. But there are some problems that even the best advice can’t solve.

Her latest supplicant, Sebastian, is unique among those who have sought her aid. He sold his soul to a demon in exchange for his sister’s life, but his heart remains pure.

Carrie has lived for millennia with the knowledge that her immortality is due to the suffering of others, and she cannot bear to see another good man damned when it is within her power to prevent it.

In order to renegotiate his contract, Carrie must travel into the depths of hell and parley with the demons that control its pathways. As the cost of her journey rises, Carrie must determine how much she is willing to sacrifice to save one good soul.

Review

Oracle of Philadelphia is filled with angels, demons and archdemons. Carrie travels this journey meeting Gabriel, the angel of joy and Michael the general. It is quite a lot to grasp that is why I am glad the author has a very easy way of writing to let you become engaged gradually with the characters before you get lost in the plot. Sometimes with a fast moving plot of this nature the demon get lost in the story and are not clear. I truly enjoyed it! I thought the author was great as was the look into another world. If this is your type of genre I am sure you will just eat it up.

My review:

Lately I have been reading a little bit on the fantasy side and I have thrown a few paranormal romances in there. Excitedly I have to report this was pretty good. Nothing nuts that someone who is not an avid fantasy genre reader to grasp.  The Oracle of Philadelphia has kept certain things a secret. Like the fact that she is the immortal one and has her channeling not the psychic everyone believes is the source. Cassia is immortal and therefore, I had no idea, she is soul less. I got a little education on this and how he gained immortality. Lucifer (yikes that scared me a bit) makes sure that the bad souls are sent to the most unpleasant place. There is no going back, he does have the power to decide, but rarely does.  Eternity as far a Lucifer is concerned is just that eternity.

The author, Elizabeth Carrigan helped me to get into the set up ad the characters. I was scared a few times but it was NOT dark. The good angels were displayed equally as the demons were. I certainly have started to like this type of writing. I think if I have someone to thank it is Elizabeth Corrigan. If it wasnt for this type of characterization I would be diving into a novel like this!
