AlaskanNights

What inspired you to become a writer?

It seemed a natural progression from reading. Stories all seemed magical and perfect, but the moment I became dissatisfied with a children’s book, I began to think I could do it better and needed to try!

When did you attempt your first story? What length was it? What’s become of it?

I wrote my first story at age 6, and I still have it in a box of old mementos. It is safely tucked away with the stories I wrote at 7 and 8, and each was progressively longer. Ten pages, twenty pages, and hundreds of pages by the time I was ten.
How many stories did you complete before you sold your first?

I wrote dozens of stories and uploaded them onto the internet for feedback. I didn’t want to sell a novel until I was certain that I was good enough to warrant doing so.

What’s your favorite genre of all to write in?

While experimenting in contemporary romance, I prefer to write fantasy/science fiction, because that is what I most enjoy reading and experiencing. I love escaping to worlds where more is possible. Bending the laws of physics is fun!
What is the best piece of writing advice you ever received?

The best advice is easy: Write. You can’t imagine how tedious and difficult it is to set aside thousands of hours to just sit in one spot and write, when there are so many other fun things and people I could be doing.

How do you deal with negative feedback?

By drinking myself into oblivion, of course! Alternatively, I do a carefully choreographed happy dance when I receive positive reviews.

Would you/have you own(ed) a snake or some other exotic pet?

Ideally, I’d love to have a dragon, but I would settle for a tiger.

Which do you prefer: rain or sun & warm weather or cold weather?

I enjoy the cold, because I love wearing fancy fur coats.

If you could live anywhere in the universe, where would it be and why?

Anywhere in the universe? Well, I would definitely choose somewhere off the planet, and I’d like to sample all the intergalactic hotspots carefully before making my decision. Ideally, a planet where they worship me and give me manservants.

Synopsis:
When Brynne left Alaska, she promised herself she would never go back.

The day after graduation, she got in her beat-up Honda Civic and drove down the west coast to pursue her dream of becoming a Hollywood makeup artist. Growing up in a rural fishing village with dirty, rundown buildings, and dirty, rundown men, she longed for the glitz and glamour of the silver screen. She had no qualms about leaving behind her dysfunctional family and her nowhere-job at her mother’s fishing tackle shop. She didn’t even think twice about leaving behind the cute boy who came in to buy gear almost every day, shamelessly flirting with her and always leaving a generous tip. Well, maybe she thought about it twice; but she knew that a relationship with Callder Murphy would only be bound to lead her deeper into nowhere. She was sick and tired of being nowhere—and no one.

Brynne set out, determined to prove to the world that she was much more than just a fisherman’s daughter. Unfortunately, her luck and tip money ran out in Seattle when her car broke down. Exhausted from the stress of travel, she decided to take a waitressing job in the city for the time being. “For the time being” ended up being far longer than she would have liked. That was four years ago. Now, a call from home has alerted Brynne to some bad news. She needs to get back to Soldotna promptly, but she has been living paycheck to paycheck and can’t even afford a plane ticket home. Enter a ghost from her past as her knight in shining armor. Unexpectedly showing up outside her restaurant in a red Ferrari, Callder is determined to take her home with him, and keep her there for good.

* * *

Perpetually drunken playboy, Callder Murphy, is currently loaded. Of course, that’s only because he stole his big brother’s credit card. He was off in Vegas, doing what he does best (absolutely nothing) when he received the call from home. A name he hasn’t heard in years pulls him out of his mindless haze of stumbling from one wild party to the next: Brynne Ambrose needs his help. Pleasant memories of the rude, tomboyish, and completely adorable girl-next-door come rushing back to him with a vengeance. He drops all of his shenanigans and cleans up his act instantaneously. He uses his brother’s credit card to buy an impressive car, and sets out to win over the girl of his dreams. He knows he’s no good for her, but he can’t stay away.

Callder has been waiting his whole life for the opportunity to be her man, and he’s not going to let her slip away again.

Book Description:

There’s complicated. And there’s Rowen Sterling.

After numbing pain for the past five years with boys, alcohol, and all-around apathy, she finds herself on a Greyhound bus to nowhere Montana the summer after she graduates high school. Her mom agreed to front the bill to Rowen’s dream art school only if Rowen proves she can work hard and stay out of trouble at Willow Springs Ranch. Cooking breakfast at the crack of dawn for a couple dozen ranch hands and mucking out horse stalls are the last things in the world Rowen wants to spend her summer doing.

Until Jesse Walker saunters into her life wearing a pair of painted-on jeans, a cowboy hat, and a grin that makes something in her chest she’d thought was frozen go boom-boom. Jesse’s like no one else, and certainly nothing like her. He’s the bright and shiny to her dark and jaded.

Rowen knows there’s no happily-ever-after for the golden boy and the rebel girl—happily-right-now is a stretch—so she tries to forget and ignore the boy who makes her feel things she’s not sure she’s ready to feel. But the more she pushes him away, the closer he seems to get. The more she convinces herself she doesn’t care, the harder she falls.

When her dark secrets refuse to stay locked behind the walls she’s kept up for years, Rowen realizes it’s not just everyone else she needs to be honest with. It’s herself.

Julius Caesar wrote of the Celts: The Celts were fearless warriors because they wish to inculcate this as one of their leading tenets, that souls do not become extinct, but pass after death from one body to another. Dru, a gifted, but tormented witch living alone on the coast of Ireland wakes to find Ty, her long-time love, mysteriously disappeared. In Paris, Katerina, an oppressed but talented dancer bravely takes the stage in one final performance before escaping a life of tyranny, looking for a freedom she d only known in dreams. Tonight, when the moon is full and the stars are aligned, he rises from his temporary grave to find the world is not as he remembers. His people, his family, his tribe have vanquished, along with the majority of his considerable power. Chance takes him to Dru, and together they set out to find the key to reopening his world, whilst forming a bond of friendship neither has ever previously known. During their search, Dru learns Ty was no mortal man, but a god with a prophecy to fulfill. Ty died before fulfilling that prophecy, setting off a chain of events that would forever alter the future. Devastated, Dru abandons Aodh and the life that should have already been hers, and finds herself in the company of the worst sort. She begins a sordid affair with Kas, a daemon whose insatiable lust for power is only outdone by his lust for Dru. Separated from the only friend he knows, Aodh is left to search the world alone for answers. He meets the beautiful dancer, Katerina, and is instantly smitten. He stays near her, pretending to be mortal, gaining her friendship. On Katerina s birthday, just as Aodh is ready to concede to a life of mortality, Katerina is ripped from him by Kas. Aodh’s ideas on remaining mortal are no more; he has to unlock the secrets to his world that will open a trove of unimaginable power to save the two women he loves, before time is no longer in his favour, and he loses everything.

You and Tequila by Crystal Donahue @CDonahue_Writes

You and Tequila

I have done it AGAIN! I found another debut that is smart, fun and fluffy! So another great book. If you enjoy your chick lit this is definitely for you. The story of Cassel Bailey is fun and at times real life real! She lost her parents and her brother Jamison practically despises her. I won’t give away why, but I find out why he has never been close to her. Cassell (sounds like Castle) is working through nursing school. She had a live in boyfriend, Dane, who cheated on her, so of course she trusts NO man!  She has great friends who love and support her. One of them is Will Tanner, he is Dane’s former best friend. When she wakes up after a tequila shooter bender in her bed with Will next to her, she freaks.

Cassel has a great BFF Tina, who is so funny and a “tell it like it is” girl. Then there is Rita, her wacky 40something neighbor who takes care of her cat and just uses her key wen the mood strikes. There is the funniest scene when Rita unlocks the door and Cassel is in the tub and is naked and has no clothes with her.

We get to the bottom of her brother and his issue. Also the entire story about her parents and what she does for her niece and nephew every holiday. It was a tear jerker!

Just the right blending of old, new, friendships, family and love. This will appeal to the masses. Dane is always there and I wanted to pinch him so bad. Little frigger needed a kick in the ass and I know who can dish that one out. Calling Will Tanner STAT emergency Doctor Bombay come right away!

One thing is for certain, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade… when life gives you limes, you grab some salt and a bottle of tequila and learn to take it one shot at a time.

The author:

Crystal Donahue

Crystal Donahue has been fortunate to live all over the US, including but not limited to Arizona, Hawaii, and Georgia but she currently resides near the Iowa/Illinois border with her tornado obsessed son and their mischievous cat, Brownie. She is a procrastinator of epic proportions, finds humor in almost everything, loves sarcasm and loathes washing dishes.

A 2004 graduate of Western Illinois University, Crystal has held several unique jobs including driving a Zamboni and being a relay operator for the hearing and speech impaired. While working as a claims adjuster she realized life is too short not to do something that makes you happy, so she quit her job to go back to school and study nursing. Between work, school, and raising her son she somehow manages to find time to write too, usually to the detriment of her social life. Fortunately her friends and family rock so it isn’t much of an issue… yet.

Waiting on Forever (The Forever Series #2) by Ashley Wilcox @ashleywilcox55 @Tale_of_Reviews

Waiting on Forever (The Forever Series, #2- Spin-Off of Planning on Forever)

This was book #2 in the Forever Series. They say it is a stand alone or spin off I say NOPE you have to read book1. When you do you will see the growth of the characters and the author. This book was smarter and sexier if that is possible. I so enjoyed when Collin and Summer came to visit Matt. It brought the first book and the characters right back to you. So see don’t skimp, buy book one. Parties, sororities and getting drunk are the opposite of Leah Bennett. Leah is cute and comes equipped with a smart mouth. She is not the typical football player’s girlfriend. The day she meets Matthew Jacobs, is the day her future is sealed. She doesn’t know it and she is so secretive that her coy attitude doesn’t give the “real” Leah away. Her room-mate Kayla is the polar opposite. She lives College life for her self and puts studying second. Leah explains Kayla “Although Kayla is completely harmless and would never hurt a fly, she is dumber than a box of rocks, and I would rather listen to her nails dragging on a chalkboard then have her chatting my ear off about nothing at all.”

She realizes that Matt is not at all what she thought him to be. Just because he is in a frat house and the star wide receiver, doesn’t mean he has no standards. Apparently  Matt shows he is a little bit of an alpha male. Leah thinks she has him pegged and is confused by his actions then it becomes clear. “Now hearing him say that, this picture I’ve drawn of him is false”

Another hilarious quote, that doesn’t give plot away is “Holy fin Mother Theresa! He did not just say that me bowling a perfect game is a turn on!”

Last night it happened! “Finally feeling like a true college student, I didn’t go home last night” How cute is that? I think really cute.

Location 1413 “What the hell? Am I a dick-a-holic now?” Another laugh and spit on the kindle!

So they are cute and the entire story has it’s ups and downs. There was a reveal that sort of blew me away because it explained Matthew’s family. Just the right amount of everything boiled in a pot and served up like a 5 star meal! Read it and enjoy the story, it continues with Promising Forever in May and then in July Giving You Forever. Get in line now this author rocks and I want more already!
