He was a mountain; she could think of no other way to describe him.
His brown hair was cut in a perfect fade, wavy on top and extremely short on the sides, showing a little silver at the temples, which made it hard to pinpoint his age. Definitely over thirty, sheโd guess.
His brow was strong and shadowed his eyes, but his shoulders took her breath away. They were so wide he couldnโt have fit through the car window if he tried.
His mouth was straight and stern, although his demeanor was friendly. It set off no alarm bells, and she completely trusted her instincts when it came to threats.
Her brain was weird like that. It existed in a state of calm, and the one time sheโd been in a dangerous situation, it had jumped into action. It had analyzed the situation, calculating the best move to safety, resulting in her dragging a screaming Jenn away from the knife fight that had broken out in Jennโs favorite club.
This last week of money problems had introduced her brain to a new state: stress. It could be the only rational explanation as to why the sight of this man had put her on edge. Not stress, exactly. Or any danger. More like a low hum of tension.
Twice, sheโd had to keep her hands still when theyโd wanted to tuck a stray hair behind her ear or adjust her glasses.
And now he was speaking, and she had no idea what he just said.
โIโm sorryโwhat was that?โ she asked, covering her embarrassment with a brisk tone.
He held his very large palm out, hovering it over her door, and said, โIโm going to need Trevorโs card back first.โ
โOh. Of course.โ She dug into her raincoat pocket and pulled out the metal card, placing it in his hand. His fingers closed over it, hiding it completely from view. โHow did you know I had it? Does it have a sensor in it?โ
โI think I can help with your request,โ he said, ignoring her question. โBut I have to advise you that youโre on private property, and that covers all information you learn or hear. This is a type of verbal NDA. Can I get your agreement on that?โ
Her pulse skipped at the words โI can help,โ her imagination running away with all the ways he could help her get an escort job. She conjured her grandmotherโs face telling her to Prekrati eto, or knock it off. It worked.
โI understand and I agree,โ she said. She looked to the house, a Spanish-style mansion, and back to the man, wondering what would happen next.

A sexy and emotional romance that transcends the ideas of
life and death. Can you suspend disbelief?
For one entire and blissful night, I wasn’t Megan the widow. I was Megan out
having a drink with her best friend. I was Megan, getting hit on by a hot,
younger guy. I said no to him, but everything inside of me said yes.
I was still grieving and healing the loss of my husband Sam. Getting my life
back to some kind of normal. Until it got complicated. Very, very complicated.
Because that hot young guy who wasn’t even supposed to be on my radar? He came
crashing in with this weird electric pulse between us and a chemistry that’s
off the charts. If that wasn’t complicated enough – he’s is a student in my
creative writing class with enough complications of his own.
The words in his poems remind me of Sam’s. He says things
that are too familiar. Knows things about me no one else knows. It’s like
seeing a ghost. I wasn’t supposed to fall for him, but my happily ever after is
gone, and his arms feel like home.
But when everything starts to make sense, and the pieces come together in the
end, am I in love with him? Or the memory of Sam?
She loves writing real, flawed characters and writing about realistic, gritty
and raw romance. She’s a romance junkie and happy endings addict, and if youโre
a lover of deeply emotional, flawed and realistic romance reads with lots of
delicious angst, her books are for you. Alyne’s stories involve characters with
bigger problems than just finding love. She writes stories about making peace
with the past, rekindling old flames and healing old wounds. She loves small
towns, men in uniform and alpha males with a heart of gold.
She began her story-telling journey first with her dolls, then it progressed to
paper. She has a deep love for anything romantic, and she’s a believer that in
love anything is possible.
When Alyne isnโt writing, you can find her reading, scrap-booking, and spending
time with her two children and her boyfriend. She enjoys trips to the mountains
just as much as trips to the city, live music, chick flick movie marathons and
hanging out with her eclectic group of friends.
As Jock and Daphneโs friendship turns to something too tempting to deny, their
lives take an unexpected turn. Can a man who has lost everything find
redemption with a woman who has everything to lose? And then thereโs that
secretโฆ

Award-winning wildlife photographer, Elijah Ellis, has come back home due to the tragic accident that
killed members of both his and his best friend Tabitha Brodieโs family. Despite their grief, Eli hopes that
he and Tabby can pick up their familiar friendship. Heโs never forgotten the way Tabby makes him feelโ
full of hope and a sense of homeโbut she seems determined to keep him at armโs length.
Tabby has always loved Eli. Heโs everything she wants in a man. But he left Gatlinburg to make a name
for himself outside of his famous family. Even though thereโs no one better to help her through this
time, she refuses to be an anchor to a life he never wanted. Not to mention Tabbyโs hiding a secret that
will change all of their lives.
As Eli and Tabby spend more time together, heโs determined to show her they could be perfect
together. Too bad sheโs spent years building her walls against him…
Fate was being exceptionally bitter today as footsteps sounded on the worn boards. Heavy footsteps.
She pushed off the floor, the damp cloth sliding off and landing with a thwack, just as her
unwanted visitor came into view.
Oh, fate was just being a downright witch this morning.
โI knew Iโd find you here.โ He grinned. โItโs been far too long, Tabby.โ
Elijah Ellis strode across the small space and enveloped her in a warm embrace. The heat of his body
surrounded her and brought up memories she needed to drown. His scruff tickled her cheek as she
forced herself to return the hug as a friend would. Pushed those passionate memories back down.
Forced herself to toe the friend line even though their bodies had been more intimately acquainted one
gloriousโon constant replayโnight.
She knew heโd return at some point. Heโd missed the funeral, not surprising since no one in either her or
his family had known exactly where he was, besides somewhere in Bolivia trying to photograph some
elusive cat. But she was surprised at how long it had taken him to come home.
Thankful, but surprised.
Eli stepped back, and Tabby indulged for one moment. Catalogued his jet black hair brushing his
shoulders, his brown eyes sucking her in with their charismatic twinkle. His swimmerโs body, firm and
solid. And for a moment she needed to confide in him. Tell him her most treasured secret. A
gift left behind. One no one else knew. One he could help her bear.
Increasing the distance between them, she forced the crazy notion back into a deep hole where the
fantasy of her and Eli resided. Giving him any reason to feel protective of her or, rather, more protective
than he normally felt was the wrong move. For all of them.
โItโs good to see you. Youโve been missed.โ Iโve missed you.
Eli cocked his head to the side. โAre you okay?โ
She waved his concern away. โAs well as can be expected.โ
He moved closer. โTabby?โ
And the floodgates opened. โI lost my sister, Eli. My sister and my father and brother-in-law in one fell
swoop. No oneโs okay.โ
Steel arms folded around her, his chest shouldering the wracking sobs. No one had seen her cry like this.
Sheโd held it together for almost a month. Not only for her stepmother and stepsiblings, but for the life
inside her. But God, it felt good. Safe to be unburdening it to the one person who understood not just
the loss but the repercussions.
