About Appeal:

Brooklyn Myers, Esquire.

The name alone made me hard.

Dressed in cheap bargain suits, she still was a knockout.

Amber eyes that call to me like none other.

I should have ignored her.

I wasn’t ready for the promise of simply her.

I claimed her anyway, even if I never meant to keep her.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Noah waltzes into my office, taking me out of my misery for a split second. Moving my gaze from the ceiling, I watch as he flops down in my chair. His eyes are dancing as he watches me, a smile wide on his face.

“What?” I grunt.

He shakes his head. “Oh, nothing. Just that you’re in love and it seems like a little brunette has thwarted your plans. Personally, I think it’s hilarious. Watching you pine over the woman.”

I almost reach over my desk, grab his shirt and punch the shit out of him. Almost. But I don’t. Honestly, I don’t have the fucking energy. I haven’t slept in seven goddamn days. I’m exhausted.

“What’s your point?” I ask on a sigh.

“Since when was Lucas fucking Black a pussy?”

Lifting a brow, I press my lips together in a thin line. “Pretty brave coming into my office with that shit, Noah,” I bark.

He shakes his head. “Not brave. But you’re being stupid as shit. Go get your woman, man. You look fucking miserable, and you kind of smell,” he points out, scrunching his nose.

I turn my head, sniffing my armpit. Fuck. He’s right, I do kind of smell. I count back to my last shower and I cringe. I’m a two-shower-a-day kind of man, but honest to fuck, I think it’s been about four since I had my last one. Every single day has been a blur since I dropped Brooklyn off at her house.

“She doesn’t want me, and Christ, I don’t know if I really want her,” I sigh.

Noah stands, leans over, and presses his palms against my desk while he looks down at me. “You do. I know that you do. I know that you did the moment you locked eyes on her sweet ass. She’s special, Lucas and a woman like that you do not let slip through your fingers. Don’t be a fucking asshole, don’t be stubborn. Be the fucking lion and tackle your goddamn prey.”

Prologue
Alissa
When your whole
world implodes and in the matter of hours and your happily ever after turns to
dust, life sucks.
I’m left holding
the baby. Literally.
The baby being my eleven-month old daughter, Nora, who knows nothing of her father’s failure to be a decent husband… man… well human-being really. He’s a shitty person and that’s all there is to it. Our story started out like your typical fairy-tale.  Goosebumps still prickle my skin when I remember the way he chased me throughout Senior school, and the years of romance that followed. And the proposal and wedding? Just call me Cinde-fucking-rella. But my perfect life came crashing down as quickly as that pink line appeared on the pregnancy test.  Apparently a tired, puffy and hormonal wife didn’t exactly make my husband’s dick stand to attention. So, in a move I can only imagine was driven by his little head (and I do mean little,) he decided my ex-best friend was a better option.
That’s right I said ex because before she did the dirty with my husband she was the best friend. I told her everything, confided in her and cried on her shoulder about my non-existent sex life and all the while her own sex life was heating up with my husband. Weekends away on ‘business trips’ and doing all the things a wife should be doing with her husband. Except she was his slutty side piece with a big fat mouth and a huge spent pussy the whole football team had ridden so often they called her the local bike.
Yeah, I’m bitter and I don’t care. I’ve been wronged by the two people I trusted the most. Now I’m a single mother with no social life to speak of, and my only conversation is in baby gobbledegook. I actually look forward to the delivery woman ringing the doorbell when I order groceries online. Yeah, I have them delivered. Have you ever tried juggling a crying baby and a shopping cart while concentrating on what comfort food you plan to stuff your face with that night while crying over chick flicks? Yeah, I’m miserable, it’s obvious, right?
Author Bio
I was born and bred in East Yorkshire England, and I still
live in my hometown, with my husband and children.
My journey with stories began when I was just a child, I
would often scribble down wherever my dreams or imagination took me.
My journey with writing stories, began much later when I
became ill and housebound for a period of eighteen months. I decided I would
escape real life and become immersed in a story of my creation. With the
support of my husband and family my first real story was born. I would stay up
night after night tapping the keys of my trusty laptop, while my husband lay
sleeping beside me. I was hooked. But it wasn’t as easy as that. My story
needed work. A lot of it. And it sat on my computer for some years after that.
Later on I decided to embark on another journey. I went to university, where I
studied Creative writing and English literature.
I then decided with a new wealth of knowledge that I would once
again delve into the world that I had created. I had never forgotten the
characters and would often think about what I would have liked to have done
with them over the years. I had grown to love them for getting me through a
very difficult period in my life, and I wanted other people to read all about
them. And so I began to rewrite my book.
It wasn’t until I delved into the ‘Book world’ on facebook
that I discovered the ‘Indie book world.’ It’s amazing! So many authors are now
being heard publishing this way, and I can only hope that my books will leave a
lasting memory for some or all of you readers too!

I throw my head back, laughing and happy that playful Jojo is back. “I remember the first time we kissed,” I say, looking into her eyes. She swallows.
Her earlier playfulness falls away and is replaced with a serious, heated stare. “I remember the first time we danced.” My finger caresses the bare skin
of her shoulder, and her green eyes go from shining emerald to a dark forest green.
“Griff,” she whispers a warning. “I want to kiss you so bad.” My voice is gruff and filled with a need that far outweighs any craving for gelato. I don’t wait for her answer because the way she watches me
has me undone.
My lips press to hers slowly, a soft caress, a begging for permission. Her fingers come up and rake through my hair, tugging me closer. My tongue peeks from my mouth, begging entrance to hers as she opens willingly.  The kiss is slow and testing at first. I’m scared of pushing too hard and having her pull away. She says she doesn’t want more, but the chemistry between us beats alive and strong. Her taste sets my body on fire as a million memories come crashing through my mind. Electricity sparks inside me, making me feel alive for the first time in what feels like forever. And now, with a simple kiss, I have come undone. My lonely heart beats in time with hers. My thumb brushes over the pulse point in her neck, and it thumps wild like mine. “Jolie,” I say her name like a prayer. “What are we doing?” she murmurs into my mouth. “What feels right,” I answer into hers. Primal instinct begs me to take her on this kitchen counter and make her mine. My fingers pull at her scalp and she moans into my mouth, and my hard-on pulses to her sweet noises. The kiss intensifies until we are both breathless and panting when suddenly, she pulls away from me, pressing her hands to my shoulders.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“You cannot do this to me, Cassie,” Sam Wylde argued over the speakerphone attached to his truck’s dashboard. He cringed as his Southern drawl came out a little thicker than usual. Frustration did that to him, and right now it was taking everything in him to not start cussing.

With a deft twist of his wrist, he steered his truck into the parking lot next to Town Hall, cutting off another car with a halfhearted wave of acknowledgement. He needed to pick up several permits before the city offices closed, leaving no room for pleasantries.

Damn, for a Saturday, the lot sure is packed.

He sighed and forced his attention back to the phone call. “We’ve got a few months until the launch of the entire brand. Everything I’ve done the last two years is riding on this.”

“I’m really sorry,” Cassie, his event planner, said from the other end of the phone. Or former event planner, apparently. “But I can’t be in two places at once, and neither can my influencers and vendors. We’re booked for that day now.”

Teetering on the brink of exploding, Sam breathed in slowly. “But. You. Signed. With. Us. First.” He ground the words out slow and steady.

“Technically, I haven’t signed an actual contract. I was helping you out as a favor to Noah,” Cassie informed him. “And where I go…so do my connections.”

Once upon a time, I believed in fairy tales. I thought he was my Prince Charming, even though Grayson was tall, brooding, and from the wrong
side of the tracks…
At fifteen, he swept me off my feet. At twenty, he shattered my heart.
When I finally dried my tears, I became a new person.
Hardened.
Untouchable.
Impenetrable.
Until one day, like magic, Grayson reappears. All my old scars start to ache. He’s different, too: haunted. Brooding. Damaged. We’re both scarred by our past and yearning to escape our present.
He protests my presence even as he kisses me under the starry sky, but it’s no use. I’m not falling for that again – not for his glances that make me weak in the knees, not for his smoldering touches that make me tingle with need. He’ll just disappear again, leaving me broken and alone.
That’s why I have to guard my heart – and never, ever fall for Grayson again.
Even though he’s wildly tempting. I can’t forget the way his touch felt, the heat of his lips against my skin.

I dip my paddle into the lake, testing out how it works.
“No, no,” Grayson says. “You are doing it wrong. You want to go with the water. Look…” He picks up his own paddle and dips it in the lake, moving it smoothly. I try to copy his movement, but he just sighs loudly.  No.” He demonstrates again. “You are going against the water. If you expect to get anywhere—” “Alright!” I say through gritted teeth. “It’s my first time. Just let me—” I stroke my paddle in the water. Grayson explodes. “You still aren’t doing it right! How hard can it possibly be to follow instructions?” He grabs the end of my paddle, exasperated. “Just—” “Let go!” He’s pushing me close to the edge. I can feel my temper starting to balloon up. Gripping my paddle, I rip it from his hands. Anger flares in his eyes. “You are so—”
“What is your problem, Grayson?!” He’s already got a response loaded. “You are my problem!
What in the fuck are you even doing here, Rachel?”
“I could ask you the same thing, but you would probably not have an answer,” I grind out. “Again. I generally don’t like to repeat
my mistakes.”
He bristles. “Are you saying that I was a mistake, then?” I narrow my eyes. “That’s not what I meant, but… yes. My mother’s right about you.”
As soon as the words are out of my mouth, I wish I could take them back. My mother said a lot of hideous things about him while we were
together. How is he supposed to know that I’m referencing something she said when he was already gone?
Grayson gets this wounded look in his eyes for the barest second. Watching it is like being slapped in the face.
“I didn’t mean—”
Enough.” He glares at me. “Just use your fucking paddle like a normal person, okay?” He stands up and carefully turns around, so that he’s facing away from me. He dips his paddle in the water and starts rowing wordlessly. I mimic him and he switches to the other side of the canoe with a heavy sigh. We actually move pretty quickly then, especially since we are not communicating. I realize that I probably should have stopped back on the shore for a sample of water, but I guess we can stop on the return journey.  I try to breathe and paddle in time with Grayson’s mighty strokes. As we leave the shore behind us, I look up at the calm blue sky  overhead. Except the sky isn’t blue exactly; it’s light gray now, thunderclouds gathering overhead.
Struggling to keep up with Grayson, I watch the sky darken. It’s definitely about to rain. As soon as I can see the shore on the other
side, I see raindrops begin to hit the lake’s smooth surface.
“Shit,” I hear Grayson grumble.
Digging my paddle into the water deeper doesn’t help as much as I want it to. The skies open up and dump rain onto us. There is suddenly
water everywhere, each raindrop seeming to bounce back up from where it falls on the lake.
When we are almost there, Grayson actually gets out of the canoe, soaking himself up though to the waist. Unsure what to do, I try to
stand up. I see Grayson glance back at me and do a double take.
“Rachel—”
But it’s too late. I tip the canoe over and fall out, flailing awkwardly. The only thing that breaks my fall is the water, which is shockingly cold. Then I am submerged for several breathless seconds, underneath the lake’s muddy waters.  I feel something move in the water beside me. My heart
starts to pound.
Grayson materializes right there, grabbing me and pulling me to the surface of the lake. I gasp for breath. My arms automatically go around his neck as he pulls me toward the shore, dripping wet. Even though I’m half drowned, I’m also intimately aware of
how warm the hard muscle of his chest is. He holds me tight, almost uncomfortably so. If everything wasn’t happening all at once, I might make some noise about it.
I try to clear my face of my own water-dampened hair. He runs up onto the shore with me in his arms, not stopping for a second. He keeps
going until he trots into a little lean-to.
Only when there is something over both of our heads does he stop and breathe. His eyes dart to and fro, scanning the downpour outside. He leans forward and pulls the door closed just a little. Something about his behavior is… off, somehow.  “Grayson,” I say, gently putting my hands on his chest. “Gray?” He looks at me as if he’s seeing me for the first time. When he speaks, his voice is oddly quiet. “Hey.” I squirm a little but he doesn’t get the picture. “Can you put me down, please?” There is a moment of hesitation there. I can see in his eyes
that he wants to say no. But he lets me down.
And for just the briefest moment, soaking wet and pressed against his warm body, that I don’t want him to let me go. I peer up into his eyes and wonder if he ever thinks about kissing me. And he looks right back at me, his eyes glinting blue.
Then he pushes me away. It’s so silly to feel this way, but it’s like being rejected by him all over again. My eyes mist over and I curse
myself for being so weak.
Grayson heads out into the pouring rain and I watch him go, determined not to cry.

FIGHTING THE ODDS by Kristen Granata @kristen_granata @inkslingerpr @JessicaE_PR @NazareaAndrews

Today we have the release day blitz of FIGHTING THE ODDS by Kristen Granata! Check it out and be sure to grab your copy today!

Title: FIGHTING THE ODDS

Author: Kristen Granata

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About Fighting the Odds:

I’d prepared myself for a life without love. Lost my parents and anyone else I got close to. Nothing good ever stays for long. I’m a statistic after all. Former foster kid. Former drug addict, alcoholic. Always thought I was destined to be alone. Always felt like I wasn’t worth a damn.

Then Carla Evans walked into my life.

One look at her in that uptight, buttoned-up outfit and I knew I had to have her. For a night, I’d indulge myself in the fantasy of a girl like her actually wanting a guy like me.

Then she moved here with no job and that ridiculous bucket list.

I knew she needed my help.

I just didn’t expect to need hers.

I spent a long time letting myself believe I didn’t deserve happiness. It took me a while (and a whole lot of therapy) to realize I’d had it all wrong.

Now I know.

And now I have to tell her.

*This new adult romance flip-flops between the past and present, following TJ’s difficult journey to get to where he is now. Fighting the Odds deals with sensitive topics like drug abuse, death, foster care, homelessness, and miscarriage. But it is also an inspirational story of love, friendship, hope, and finding your inner warrior.

Carla

“I’ll take a Corona, please.”

I hand the bartender my fake ID and settle against the back of my stool. She pops the top off the bottle and slides it my way. I take a long swig.

“You don’t strike me as the beer type.”

I hold my hand up without looking at who the deep voice belongs to. “Save your energy for someone else, please.” Can’t a girl sit alone at a bar without being hit on?

“It doesn’t really take much energy to have a conversation, but thanks for your concern.”

I roll my eyes and take another few gulps of my beer. I pretend to watch the TV above the bar, though I can feel the stranger’s eyes on me.

“Who are you rooting for?” he asks.

“What?”

“The fight you’re staring at so intently. Who are you rooting for?”

“I’m not rooting for anyone. MMA is a barbaric sport. How these guys get paid mega bucks to beat each other up is beyond me. Just another testament to our Neanderthal society.”

“Those guys aren’t just beating each other up.”

I gesture toward the screen. “Those two dudes are throwing punches at each other. That guy is bleeding profusely from his nose. They certainly aren’t doing ballet.”

The stranger chuckles. “Okay, so they are fighting. But there’s more to it than that. It takes skill and training to do what they do.”

“Oh, look. Now they’re on the ground. That guy’s going to lay on top of the other one for the next five minutes. You’re right. Looks like they’ve had a lot of training.” I drain the rest of my beer and stand. So much for enjoying a drink alone.

“You should stay and watch the fight. I’ll prove to you just how much skill these guys have.”

I spin around to face the annoying stranger, allowing myself to look at him for the first time.

Holy muscles.

I clamp my mouth shut to keep it from falling wide open. Brawny. Strapping. Muscular. Built. None of the words coming to mind seem adequate enough to describe the Herculean god sitting before me. It’s almost a sin he covered himself up with all those tattoos. Almost. The intricate pieces of art twist around his muscular arms, all the way down to his knuckles. A tease of ink pokes out of the neckline of his shirt, stopping halfway up his neck. Every inch of his body has trouble written all over it.

His face though … his face is a different story. It’s so handsome it looks like it doesn’t belong on his body. The icy-blue of his eyes is warmed by his smile, which is complete with a set of dimples. A backwards baseball cap covers his hair, but his thick brows and scruff peppering his chiseled jawline are as dark as a cup of coffee.

He’s an oxymoron. The face of an angel with the body of Satan himself. A dark ray of light. A friendly nemesis. The man is menacingly beautiful.

And I’m gawking. I clear my throat and try to remember what it was he’d asked me. “I’ve had a long trip. I’m going to call it a night.”

“Where you coming from?”

“Florida. Just arrived.”

“And the first place you come to is a bar?”

My eyes narrow and I prop my hand on my hip. “Don’t judge me. You don’t know a thing about me.”

His hands shoot up. “Hey, I wasn’t judging. I was just making an observation.”

“Well, don’t do that either.”

About Kristen Granata:

Kristen Granata is a teacher by day, and an (exhausted) author by night. Known for writing emotional New Adult Romance, she loves creating realistic, flawed characters who struggle through the darkest parts of life and come out stronger on the other side. Kristen is a self-proclaimed “bitter cynic trapped in a hopeless romantic’s body.” Her characters pack a sarcastic punch, make you laugh, make you think, make you ugly cry – and they will always live happily ever after. If you’re a lover of moving, inspirational reads, Kristen’s your girl.

Kristen was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1986. She moved to Staten Island with her family and lived there for almost twenty years. There she attended community college and became a teacher. Despite her passion for writing, and despite her professors strongly suggesting she become a writer, she took the more sensible route (bitter cynic, remember?) After going through a difficult divorce when she was only twenty-nine, Kristen returned to writing. The raw story that poured out of her led her to publish her debut novel, Collision, in March of 2018. Soon after in August 2018, the sequel, Avoidance, was published. Her third novel, The Other Brother, released in April 2019.

Kristen openly shares her mental health struggles with depression and anxiety with her Instagram following. Her message is a beacon of hope to anyone who is suffering: You are not alone. She delicately weaves this theme into her writing, and demonstrates the ability of love to heal trauma.

When she’s not teaching or writing, Kristen is reading, Instagramming, indulging in her messy love affair with popcorn, and annoying her wife and step-daughters by incessantly singing along to The Greatest Showman soundtrack.

Exclusive Excerpt:

I stop at the bodega on the corner of Abercorn and Broughton. I am in desperate need of an energy drink and salty carbs, two things not commonly accessible at work. While standing in front of the cooler, trying to decide which flavor of radioactive neon liquid I want to consume, I feel a heavy, uncomfortable presence fill the space behind me.

“Don’t even think about tucking any of those under your shirt and stealing them.”

“What?”

I know exactly who it is standing behind me, extremely too close. The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. A completely expected reaction to Officer Jackass.

The butterflies lightly fluttering in my stomach, however, is not expected at all.

I look over my shoulder toward him and crinkle my face.

“Try not to commit any crimes right now, please.”

I roll my eyes, open the cooler, and grab a random can, just to move away from him.

“I’m not a thief. And I’m certainly not dumb enough to try to stuff cold beverages into my clothes. I’d have freezer burn before I could even get out of here.”

I turn to walk away, but the broadness of his shoulders—of him—makes it almost impossible to move in any direction.

“Frostbite,” he says, with his stone-cold Terminator look.

“Huh?”

“You’d get frostbite, not freezer burn.”

“Oh, good grief, whatever. Now, please will you excuse me?”

He steps aside, but only slightly, and I shimmy myself past him sideways.

I head up to the counter and place my items down to be scanned. My entire body shivers. How can one person give me chills in a good and a bad way simultaneously? I try not to think on it too much. I’d like to get out of here before he tries to frisk me.

Mostly because I’m not entirely sure if I’d love or hate experiencing a frisking from him.

“Four forty-seven,” the clerk says. I fish around in my large bag. I know I have a five-dollar bill in here somewhere.

“Some of us have a job to go to. Will you hurry up, please?”

That fucking voice. It lingers in the air. It’s smooth and deep and sexy as hell.

And aggravating as fuck.

I swing my head up to meet his searing gaze. I also notice he’s holding the same damn bag of chips and drink I’m buying for myself.

Motherfucker.

I pull my wallet from my bag.

“You know what?” I say to the clerk, nodding my head back to Officer Jackass. “Put his stuff on mine too.” The clerk leans sideways to look around me. He punches the keys of the cash register a few times.

“Eight ninety-four,” he says. I slip my card into the chip slot and wait for it to process.

“For the love of God, what are you buying?” Officer Jackass mutters under his breath. He hasn’t picked up on the fact I’m buying his crap too. The card machine beeps. I take my card, place it back in my wallet, and grab my purchased items.

“Thanks,” I say to the clerk.

“Have a nice day,” he replies.

I turn to Officer Jackass. He rolls his eyes at me. I give him my most wicked “Fuck off” grin and flip him off. Most people might be scared to give a cop the finger. Not me. Not to this particular cop, anyway.
