Reviews

I follow a lot of blogs and subscribe to many via email. I was reading up on what I missed and I was just shocked that I reads a review that was in poor taste. If you feel the need to completely slam an ARC, that is SO not cool. If I read something that is awful (lucky for me I don’t have that a lot) it is better to just not post. Maybe you are not in your preferred genre or just not up for that type of book when you get it. Stop reading and remove the thought that would compel you to write something that is hurtful.

Think before you write! Maybe consider how the law of averages work and how many 5 star reviews you need to combat a bad review. Just saying, be KIND and read onkindle 5145393829_6ddb514f58_b

  1. Unfortunately, hateful comments seems to be the prevailing mindset of this decade. It’s not just reviews, it’s also some authors, and also those who deign to comment on reviews. I remember a particularly ugly comment which first trashed my review, then significantly insulted a bestselling mainstream novel. And why? what was the point? The commenter really didn’t seem to have a point, only his own agenda to destroy.

  2. Hi Reading Renee, Unfortunately I disagree. Well not completely, I think if you read a book that you totally hate or do not get then it’s a waste of time to complete it let alone blog about it. However, I receive ARCs for my honest review and I feel like I owe it to my followers to be completely honest about how I felt about the book. I give the positives and negatives and hope that my readers understand that this is my view. I have read enthusiastic reviews and then read the book only to find it ridden with grammatical errors and spelling mistakes and a completely unimaginative plot or a ripoff of a popular book. I just feel like you owe it to your followers to tell them that…

  3. Jessy, I have done many reviews for blog tours and that is against all policies. If you rate below 3 stars they won’t even post it. For me, if someone gives me book that I would rate that low I could not in good conscience post a hateful review. Probably 7 out of ten books I review I buy and give away at my own expense.
Just for an example this is a few lines from one nasty ass review
“The heroine was insipid. Her world was insipid. And the introduction of the hero didn’t spice things up enough to make the story interesting. In fact, it was like eating plastic, rather than just reading about it. I couldn’t keep going, so returned for refund.

Hopefully, the author will use her skills to develop more interesting characters and plot lines for future works. I’d also recommend rethinking the cost, as this one is priced too far above other, better works.”
If you saw this on your book you would feel the same way! Clearly this person must have a PhD. in bitchology
