“I admire what you do for your grandmother, I really do, and your entrance into heaven is assured. But you really do need to take a break every now and then.”
Just one month ago, Valentine O’Dell got her heart ripped out – yet another problem to add to her rapidly growing list. So far she moved from New York to Chicago when her Gam Gam got sick. Not only does her Grandma have dementia but she had a stroke too. So to solve a lot of her troubles, she moves there to help be a part time caregiver and finish school. For starters she has her sick grandmother, she is also searching for a new apartment after being evicted, and working nights at an exclusive club Cashe.
“Because of who you are,” she replied. “Because of what you’ve done for me, and what you can take away from me.”
Then Ari Sharapov walks into her bitchy school project partner’s apartment. Yeah things just don’t go well for Val and Harper. She cares more about social status, Instagram and her appearance far more than she does school.
“You don’t follow me on Instagram, you’re mean, and you only want to have weird sex.”
She is needy, obnoxious and overly annoying. way to create a character that can really piss people off. This girls dialogue had me SO mad!
“They don’t like poor people in fashion. That’s why the best houses shred their clothes at the end of the season – so people like you can’t wear them.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, the author puts into play DelVecchio the club owner, some of the cast and Serg- the bouncer. Anyone connected in Chicago knows Cache. Many social status climbers schmooze their best clients here. It is the place to be.
Ari, lawyer by day, is tortured by family obligations, an arranged marriage request and wanting to be partner at his father’s law firm. The family and other executives live for stature, private clubs, limos and flashy arm candy.
“ALL the best new beginnings came out of destruction”
Maybe it’s time for this relationship to be brought to light. A page turning novel from Stylo, who I adore, is a must read. Book #2 comes out September 16th too. IF you have not read Church, please do! That book was phenomenal! My favorite was My Time in the Affair but so many others come close.
Due out September 16th
Crazy woman from a remote location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since … forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball – I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I’m clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.
I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there’s your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair – both a curse and a blessing – and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can’t understand me.
Yeah. I think that about sums me up.
