With nothing but a strong back and a barrel full of ambition, August Wolff finds wealth beyond measure in the frozen goldfields of the Klondike.  Success, however, comes at an unbearably high price.  Now Gus walks alone, and all the money in the world can’t buy him what he needs.

In the late 1800’s, when women are largely seen and not heard, Amelia Starling longs for a life limited only by her imagination.  Blessed with abundant artistic talent and an even bigger heart, she moves to the boom town of San Francisco, hoping to make her mark and living with the pain of a sacrifice no woman should have to make.

Two wounded yet defiant individuals meet at the dawn of a new century, discovering a passion eclipsing all they’d ever known.  Longing to build a life together, can they overcome the dictates of a cruel and spiteful society?…The Art of Love is the prequel to the just-released contemporary romantic suspense novel, Sinner’s Grove.  Sinner’s Grove is available today and tomorrow only for 99 cents on Amazon.

Series: Sinner’s Grove #1

A startling discovery when she was 14 left San Francisco artist Jenna Bergstrom estranged from her family; unforeseen tragedy only sharpened her loneliness. But now her ailing grandfather needs her expertise to re-open the family’s once-famous artists’ retreat on the California coast. The problem? She’ll have to face architect Brit Maguire, the ex-love of her life.

Seven years ago, Brit spent a magical time with the girl of his dreams, only to have her disappear from his life completely. Now she’s back, helping with the biggest architectural renovation of his career. No matter how deep his feelings still run, Brit can’t afford the distraction of Jenna Bergstrom, because something is going terribly wrong with the project at Sinner’s Grove.

As Jenna and Brit struggle to keep their passion in check, unseen enemies close in, bent on destroying more than just her grandfather’s dream. Through the prism of ever-increasing danger, Jenna finally discovers what true family—and true love—is all about. But will it be too late?

Excerpt from Art of Love
Dressed in formal attire, Gus  arrived an hour after the party had begun. No sense in milling around too long and having people think he actually wanted to be there. He talked to a few people he recognized and lingered at the back of the ballroom, watching the hoopla unfold. Turns out he’d made it to the Firestones’ Pacific Heights mansion just in time.
“And now, may we present The Family, a painting by Amelia Starling.” Edward and Josephine, Will’s parents, jointly pulled a silk cord and the curtain rose, so to speak, on a huge canvas.
The guests erupted in a collective “Oh!” The painting was incredible, unlike any family portrait Gus had ever seen. He started to move through the crowd to see it better, but froze at what, or rather who, he saw next.
“And we are happy to introduce the creator of this brilliant work, Miss Amelia Starling.”
The woman who stepped forward, smiling at the crowd, was none other than Ruthie … but not the sweet young girl Gus had met several weeks before. No. This woman was beyond beautiful, her eyes with some kind of color on them that made them seem even larger and more exotic than before, her gorgeous dark hair swept up with some kind of shiny netting woven through it, and glittery diamonds hanging from her delicate ears. And her body. Lord have mercy. Her body was encased in a long, deep-colored dress, a kind of red, he thought, that displayed her breasts and every other curve with elegance and grace. She was magnificent.
Gus was furious.
He strode through the crowd but stopped so that she could see him as she talked to one admirer after another. At one point she saw him and her eyes grew wide. He continued to stare at her and she didn’t look away. The man she was talking to—a geezer with money, no doubt—finally had to touch her arm to get her attention. Good.
He waited, patiently, until the crowed had thinned and the Firestones had announced the buffet was open. Then he made his move.
“I take it this is what you meant by ‘a little of this and a little of that’,” he said.
She smiled awkwardly, looking around the room, probably for someone to come and bail her out.
“No one’s going to rescue you this time … Ruthie.” He stepped closer and noticed she was breathing rapidly; it was doing wonderful things to her cleavage. “Who is Ruthie, by the way? Did you just make her up on the spot?”
“No. It’s my middle name,” she explained in a quiet voice. “Look, Mr. Wolff …”
“Oh, so you know my name.”
“I knew who you were the instant I saw you.” Her chin rose. “Your … reputation precedes you.”
“Ah. Well, I’ll tell you what I tell everybody else: don’t believe everything you read.” He cocked his head. “Why did you lie about who you were?”
She shrugged her beautiful shoulders. “I don’t know. I guess I wanted to hear an honest opinion of my work. You would hardly have been straight with me had you known I painted it.”
Gus leaned in to whisper in her ear. She smelled like lavender. “I assure you, Miss Starling, I would be nothing but straight with you.”
The young woman stepped back and glared at him. “I’m sure you would be, Mr. Wolff, until the next distraction turned your head.” She made a point of looking around the room. “Speaking of which, where is the melodious Miss Lindemann? I don’t see her anywhere.”
This woman was a pip. Gus wanted more of her. He captured her gaze and answered calmly. “Miss Lindemann and I aren’t seeing each other anymore. I haven’t been with a woman since before you and I met.” He mimicked her perusal of the ballroom, even though most of the guests had migrated to the dining area. “Come to think of it, where is your swain—or swains, as the case may be? Let’s see, there’s Charles, from the other night, and then there’s your live-in. What’s his name? Sander? My my, how do you keep them all straight?” He smiled wickedly. “Oh dear, there’s that word ‘straight’ again.”
Miss Starling’s delectable face, which had shown wariness before, now exploded into a storm of outrage. Apparently so mad she didn’t care who saw her, she pulled her arm back to slap Gus’s face. He caught her arm easily and wrapped it around his waist. Once again he pulled her close and nuzzled her. “I don’t give a damn who you’re with today, as long as you’re with me tomorrow.”
“That is never going to happen,” she hissed.
“Never say never,” he said, letting his breath caress her ear. He let go of her and stepped back, his voice rising to a normal level and his tone serious and heartfelt. “I am giving it to you straight, Miss Starling. I don’t know a lot about art, but I do know how something makes me feel. Your work is astonishing. You know how to capture the … what shall I call it? The truth of a given moment. That is rare and something to be very, very proud of.”
The siren opened her mouth but no words came out. As they stared at each other, Will walked up. “Ah, I see you’ve finally met Lia,” he said. “Isn’t she spectacular?”

Keeping his eyes on her, Gus concurred with a murmured, “Yes indeed. Spectacular.”

This book takes place AFTER book 1 so if you haven’t read it yet then what are you waiting for? STOP go get book 1 Beautifully Awake HERE and read it first.

NOW this Beautifully Done book is just that, its beautifully done. We get Asher’s point of view. Asher is an attorney with attitude. He has a way with words like this quote:

Andrew Kent the second, also known as Drew, had zero and absolutely no substance. He sort of reminded me of gagging on Farina. Not sure what Ave was thinking that day. She totally did drugs in college.Read more at location 397

Asher is smitten with Talia and has been for a long time. He doesnt understand what happened or why she moved to California. He tracks her down and she is a Dermatologist in San Diego with a thriving practice.  The blending of these two characters creates a few big reveals. Now there were reveals in book 1 but this one took my breathe away. I cant tell you what it was but Asher’s trouble is an eye opener. As an avid reader I will say I never saw it coming and when it came, well I never expected it.

Now that takes me a while to recover. We re-visit Lil and Chase and then Seirra and Dodd. Each has a reveal and YES if you thought I was joking before this will show you I was not. All the while learning more about these complex characters proved to be loaded with angst. The families especially Asher’s Dad with afflicted with Alzheimer’s, made me want to scream

Such a real problem for so many people and ya know I never saw that in a book. So bravo!!

Now I was trippin that Talia could say

It wraps things up in a tear jerking sort of way. I will sing the praises of these marvelous girls called Riley Mackenzie. A book that is just all that rolled into a neat package IM DONE

Some quotes I loved that don’t give any plot secrets away:

I heard she sang you right back to sleep. That was so sweet of Talia, but next time you need to come find Mommy and Daddy. Uncle Asher and Talia were still sleeping.” “Theys not sleeping. Hers awake. I heard hers. Hers moans a lot.”

Yep. That’s an “s.” There are two of us!

We’re East coast girls separated by Long Island Sound who met in Physician Assistant School and have been besties ever since. We can safely say that thirteen miles of water does not get in the way because we talk or text, no exaggeration, at least 150 times a day. No, really, we do—about everything and nothing. Shockingly, we never (we mean never) run out of things to say. Umm, ever. We definitely laugh A LOT and we’re a tad sarcastic. And if we’re being totally honest, one or two people might have, on occasion, used our names and ‘dramatic’ in the same sentence. But it’s hard to trust the sources since they married us.
It only took twelve years, two husbands, five kids, two dogs, and a two-week vacation in Cape Cod later to decide the romance world needed a splash of medicine. Write what you know.

So you can easily find us at 4 o’clock on Bank Street beach with a glass of cold Prosecco brainstorming. And guaranteed if we bump into you, literally, it’s only because our iPhones are glued to our hands (totally out of our control) either writing or editing our next novel (and yes, it is possible to do from your iPhone, we mastered it … damn those straight quotations).

When we are not working on our book or reading the latest angsty romance on our kindles, you basically name it and we have it going on. Soccer, lacrosse, golf, swimming, dance, gymnastics, football, chess, baseball, basketball, skiing, ice skating, school, homework, and more school. Oh yeah, did we forget to mention our careers in medicine?

Needless to say, we realized fast that something had to go, so we opted for sleep. It’s completely overrated (yet so AMAZING) and delirium makes everything funnier. Good thing we share a brain and can pretty much complete each other’s sentences (definitely weird, we know), otherwise it might have taken us two years to write Beautifully Awake rather than one.

Beautifully Awake (Beautifully Awake #1) by Riley Mackenzie #Review @Literati_Lit @authorsrileymac

This was unbelievably great. Sometimes a reveal, like the two Chase had, are so out of left field that you gasp out loud. Well I did that gasp a few times.

Totally engrossing book. The story of Chase and his profession are something else! He is a real doctor. By that I mean he is so focused on giving the best care he can that you learn more about him, thus creating the stigma about beside manners. I would actually say that part of the character is enlightening. Most would agree, go in there, do the surgery and I could care less if you chit chat with me, just heal me! Chase does just that.

In the character mashup of the original four= Asher, Chase, Kimi and Talia all makes appearances, some much more prevalent than others. The story of their growing up, their dreams and their rock band were some of the special things that make you feel what you feel when their reveals happen…..I know their secrets! in a word explosive. OK one last thing about the reveals, they are spaced out in a sort of breadcrumb trail. I was thrilled when a few happened because it is SO out of left field, really good, great, shut up and read it sort of thing!

Lastly Lil, she is the medicine that the entire hospital needs.

She is a case manager that cares. She is responsible for the happiness of many and one man in-particular. The romance part is really well written, so the steamy scene lovers will gobble it up.

Take my advice especially if you like drama and angst. I say read it now!

NOTE about the medical parts. This is fascinating to read especially as a nurse. The dialogue and the medical terminology with the treatments was great. I felt it added the perfect amount of smart to the book! So this nurse approves!  I’m starting nook 2 now

My quotes and things in general that amused me:

“Switched with Martin. He loves that plastics shit, and I’d rather not waste a month doing facelifts and fucking boob jobs. Why? You sick of me yet?”Read more at location 146

Who-brought-the-cool-kid look, making me laugh even harder. My sides stabbed. I had no clue the last time I laughed this hard, really laughed. How sad was that? Good thing I went to the bathroom when we first got back to the apartment, or instead of the inevitable two-drop dribble that always snuck out before you remembered to clamp your thighs together in the mother of all Kegels, I might have pissed my pants. Sandwiched between two of the most handsome men I’d ever met, the thought of peeing my pants made me roar. Talk about a tension release … weeks in the making.Read more at location 4812

About Partners:

Rules are made to be broken…

All her life, Chloe Donovan played by the rules. She was good. She was daddy’s perfect little girl. That was, until those rules failed her and her family, causing them to lose everything they had worked for.

With her father lying in hospital unconscious, and her mother caught in the depths of depression, it’s up to Chloe to find out the truth and put the real criminals behind bars.

But to do that, she needs help.

Aiden Price was once the head of security at the decimated Donovan Corporation. He protected Chloe, her family, and their clients, as millions of dollars changed hands on a daily basis. Now, with the company in ruins, he has branched out on his own and created the successful, Price Security.

Aiden is the only person her father trusted, which makes him the only person Chloe can trust.

The problem is, he doesn’t trust Chloe. A previous moment of weakness and passion saw Chloe enter and leave his life like a ghost in the night. Aiden isn’t the kind of man a girl walks out on. He says when it’s over. Not the other way around.

On top of that, he doesn’t have any lost love for Chloe’s father. As far as he’s concerned, it was her father who sold the company out which allowed for the aggressive takeover to take place. That act saw his and thousands of other jobs lost. Aiden is a man of honor, and he can’t forgive an action that he saw as guided by pure greed.

It’s up to Chloe to convince Aiden that everything he thinks he knows is a lie. But Aiden doesn’t do anything for free. Partnering up is going to cost Chloe dearly. She just wasn’t expecting to have to pay with her heart…

Exclusive Excerpt:

“Not one to take a hint are you?” he grumbles as he heads up the path and climbs the steps.

I push off the railing and stand to meet him by his front door. “It’s important.”

“So you keep saying.” He sounds tired, his voice much softer than it had been earlier and he inserts his key, pushing the front door open.

As he walks past me, I smell the faint scent of another woman’s perfume and my mouth speaks before my brain connects. “Have you been with someone?”

Stepping inside his home, he pauses and blocks the door. “That is absolutely none of your business,” he states.

“Does this girl know what you were in your office dry humping me before her? Does she know I’m the one that got you fired up?” I’m attacking him and it’s stupid and unwarranted. Essentially, I have no right to be behaving this way. But I can’t seem to stop myself from feeling a jealous rage at the thought of him with another woman.

His eyes narrow for a moment and within a blink of the eye his arms shoot out and he grabs me, hauling me through the door and slamming me against the wall. The movement surprises me and I gasp and follow my instinct to fight him. He flattens his body against mine, pinning me so I can’t move and he grabs my wrists pressing them together over my head.

I wriggle beneath him, feeling way out of my depth. I talk tough, but in this moment, I feel anything but. “Let me go, Aiden,” I demand through clenched teeth.

“Why? Isn’t this what you came here for?” He readjusts his grip so he can hold both of my wrists in one hand then trails his other one down my arm. “It’s why you’re here acting like a jealous girlfriend, right?” His hand pauses at my throat and wraps around it uncomfortably as he leans into me, brushing his rough stubble across the skin of my cheeks. “Do you want me to fuck you, Chloe?” He pushes his groin against me and I can feel his erection dig into me. I wince. “No? Then what?” His breath is hot and his fingers tighten around my throat as his mouth moves toward my ear and he growls, “What the fuck do you want from me?”

Tears burn in my eyes and I them shut, suddenly feeling as though I’ve pushed him too far. I should have told Leah to go fuck himself. I should have stayed home and thought of another way to get Aiden to listen.

Things are different now. So much has happened in the last three years. So much has changed in each of our lives. We’re different people. Capable of different things. When you back a person into a corner, you can’t always be sure how they’ll react…

I twist my head away from him as my emotions hit me and I let out a strained sob. I didn’t want to cry. I wanted to stay in control but he’s scaring me. At the sound of my cry, his grip lessens, it’s if he suddenly realises what he’s doing and he slowly releases me.

“Shit,” he hisses, taking a step back to give me some space to move. I don’t waste my time, the moment my hands are free, I swing my body, bringing my arm around and slap him loudly across the face.

“Fuck you, Aiden! Fuck you!” I scream, my body shaking with fear, desire and anger from his intimidation tactic.

His cheek becomes immediately inflamed and I watch the red bloom across his skin, as I glare up at him, angry that we’re even in this situation. Things used to be so different between us…

“I guess I deserved that,” he admits.

Synopsis

She’s a rock goddess.
He’s a sex pistol.
I need them both, in my life and in my bed, and I’m not living without either one of them.
I’ll do whatever it takes to keep them there, even if it costs me everything I ever wanted.
I’m Tommy Blade, The Prince of Punk Rock, and this is the rest of our story.

When Jessi Blade is forced to miss the first leg of Immortal Angel’s world tour, Tommy Blade and Angel Garcia are alone together for the first time. Their romance flourishes and brings them closer together, but time apart puts a strain on Tommy and Jessi’s marriage. The demanding schedule of a world tour, pressure from the record label and a wife who feels neglected, leaves Tommy under a blanket of anxiety. He’s helpless as his perfect life slowly falls to pieces.

When Jessi finally catches up to Tommy and Angel four weeks into their world tour, she begins to feel like an outsider. She’s not about to take a back seat to Angel and she competes for Tommy’s attention. Tired of the rivalry, she begins to wonder if they’d be happier without her.

Angel is trying to hold their relationship together, but Jessi’s animosity and Tommy’s nervous tension, are a heavy load to carry. Before long, it becomes clear that their life, and the band, are doomed unless they work out their differences.

I love her, but I also love him.
She’s everything to me.
He sets my world on fire.
It’s our dirty little secret, and it’s about to blow our record deal sky high.
I’m Tommy Blade, the Prince of Punk Rock, and this is our story.

Tommy Blade is a man with a secret. It’s a secret he only shares with one person, Jessi Blade – and the men he surrenders to in the bedroom. Jessi’s only condition to their tumultuous sex life is that the men are one night stands. But when Angel Garcia enters their life, it’s like a match to gasoline.

Mega-talented punk rock singer Angel Garcia, with his smoldering ebony eyes, tight leather pants and unstoppable stage presence, is a man who is used to getting what he wants. He has his eyes set on Tommy Blade as his new lead guitarist, and as his life partner.

Jessi Blade, sympathetic to her husband’s bisexual needs, loves him enough to share him, but she never counted on Angel Garcia to test the threshold of her marriage. He makes her life hell . . . and heaven. He’s her damnation and her salvation. She wants to hate him. She wants to despise him. But his charm and raw sex appeal are impossible to resist. Without warning, she finds herself falling in love with her husband’s gay lover.

At the height of it all, their punk rock band catapults to stardom.

Their lives are marred by secrecy, deception and sacrifice. Feelings of betrayal, backlash from the sensationalistic media and threats of blackmail send them down a hard road filled with tough decisions.

They aren’t your ordinary rock stars. They’re radical rock stars. And they have a big story to tell.

“God, he’s gorgeous, Cass,” Mel gushed, pulling me out of my thoughts. I followed her swooning eyes and immediately found the source standing by the bar. She was right about one thing: he was definitely good looking.

His hair was dark; his jawline was sharp, complimenting his clean-shaven face. His body was hidden under a pair of dark jeans that hung on his hips and a button up shirt that was layered under a casual suit jacket. He looked professionally polished. He also had more than just mine and Mel’s eyes on him.

I bit down on my bottom lip. Something else stuck out about him. I glanced back at Mel. “He looks familiar, doesn’t he?”

She deepened her gaze on him, wrinkles forming around her eyes. “Eh, kind of. Why don’t you go talk to him?” She wiggled her brows.

“No. I’m not here to pick up guys. I already have an awesome one back at home.” My voice was playful, but my insides clenched at the thought of talking to a guy—especially that guy.

“Yes. That’s true.” She held up one finger as if she’d just discovered how they get all that caramel into the Caramilk bar. “But this guy can actually take you to dinner.” She laughed and I gave her an exaggerated eye roll. Suddenly, she sat straighter. “Looks to me like you’ve been noticed too. Someone’s hot-ass eyes are locked on your back. I think he knows you were ogling him.”

“He does?” My heart went from normal to pounding in zero point three seconds. “How?”

“For real?” She gave me the you’ve-got-to-be-kidding-meglare. “He’s been looking over here all night, but he caught you just as you turned around. I wasn’t able to hide my looky-loo eyes, sorry.” She shrugged as if to let me know she wasn’t sorry. “What if you do know him? School, maybe?”

“I don’t know. I guess it could’ve been college. He looks older, though.” The urge to see him up close was something I hadn’t experienced before. It was powerful. “Okay, I’ll go, but just because I need to know where I’ve seen him before.” I couldn’t even admit to myself that part of me wanted to talk to this attractive man just because.

B.A. Wolfe is a girl with a passion for reading and writing, and lives in the good ol’ state of Colorado with her husband (her biggest cheerleader), and her two crazy min pin fur babies. These days, her life is anything but calm, and there isn’t one thing she’d want to change. B.A. spends all her free time either furiously typing stories on her laptop or happily reading through her endless T BR on her Kindle. Her list of favorites would be long enough to fill a book, but most would likely fall under the romance category. She is a sucker for a good love story that makes her cry, and an amazing book boyfriend who will melt her heart. ‘Away’ is B.A. Wolfe’s debut novel.

“Who we were had washed away with the summer. Who we are was yet to be seen.”

Summer school at Alcott High was only supposed to gain Sadie Peters extra credit, nothing more. Her goal wasn’t to make friends, or gain the attention of the most popular football player, yet she managed both. Her life was cruising along on course … until that summer.

Could a simple stint in a different school change her identity completely and introduce her to love for the first time? How would that affect her relationship with Lily, her best friend?

Excerpt

I entered the lunchroom and met Nash at the same table as yesterday. He gave me a huge smile, but that was all. No hug or kiss on the cheek. Okay, fine. I set down my lunch tray that held pizza, an apple and an orange juice. Not exactly healthy, but I tried. Nash sat with me and ate his pizza, but he didn’t engage in conversation with me. Instead he sat and talked to Oliver and some other kid named Henry, who I learned played ball with them. I was secure enough to realize that Nash and I weren’t a couple; we were just getting to know each other. So, I would just need to cool it and not get upset by his ignoring me. I mean really, was he ignoring me on purpose or perhaps just busy with his guy friends? I chose the latter.
“Oh, you sit here too?” I looked up to see the shaggy haired boy sit across from me. I scowled at him and said, “I was invited to sit here. Why are you here?”
I dropped my pizza on my plate and realized I had an audience. All the boys at my table were now watching me engage in a fight with this rude ass across from me. “Last I checked this was my team’s table. Is that okay with you or should I ask Nash for permission?” What a complete jerk-face!
“So I see you’ve met Nolan, my brother.” Nash laughed.
“Wait! What?
This kid is your brother?” I asked confused.
Nolan laughed and said, “The one and only Nolan Rylan at your service. Twin brother of the oh-so-fabulous Nash Rylan. And before you say, ‘But you don’t look like him,’ it’s because we’re not identical twins.”
I found myself with my mouth hanging open and closed it quickly. I couldn’t believe it. Nash had a twin brother. The more I stared at Nolan, the more I noticed slight similarities in their appearance. Nash had dark hair and so did Nolan. Their
smiles were the same, big white teeth grins. Their eye color wasn’t the same though. Nash’s were crystal blue and Nolan’s were honey brown. Nash dressed casual like his personality, easy going. Nolan was crisp and clean. And from his personality, it didn’t seem to match. He really threw me when he put on his glasses and pulled out our homework assignment right
there at the table. He leaned back, ignoring me with ease, and read. I couldn’t help but stare at him. He wasn’t a football player. No way.
“You play football?” I inquired. He looked up from his book, and I felt a strange sensation. The other guys went back to talking and ignoring me. “Why is that hard to believe? Do I look like a nerd to you?”
I looked at his body. No, not really. He was fit enough, but he was slightly nerdy. Between
his well-manicured nails to his brown high end shoes, it was hard to picture
him in a football uniform.
“You just dress so … so,” I struggled.
“So, nicely perhaps? Not like a jock, I know. But thanks for noticing.” He pulled his book higher and did as the other boys did, ignored me.
