About the Author

Melissa Pearl was born in Auckland, New Zealand, but has spent much of her life abroad, living in countries such as Jordan, Cyprus and Pakistan… not to mention a nine month road trip around North America with her husband. “Best. Year. Ever!!” She now lives in China with her husband and two sons. She is a trained elementary teacher, but writing is her passion. I enjoyed the deepness of this book. The main character suffers from a debilitating disease. Actually any for m of mental illness is debilitating at one time or another. This particular disorder is one of the worst there is. The manic behavior was given a starring role in this great storyline. The author did a great job of expressing the serious emotions that the main character, Jenna goes through. I was really wanting to embrace the people around her. What makes this story unique was the secretive behavior. When Jenna meets Logan, he is fairly honest and tells how his brother passed away. Being the main character has lost her sister it should have been at that time when Jenna opens up a little bit. From the beginning to about 70% was the build up and that was my issue it should have been a little sooner. I felt bad that Logan WAS a stand-up guy and nobody trusted him enough to let him in on Jenna’s issues. In the end I enjoyed the book, like I said it was deep and depicted a disease worth talking about.

The stats on mental illness and some depressive disorders is not to be taken lightly. Actually almost 10% of Americans are depressed or have had a depressive episode in the past. I like that this book can and may help someone to recognize that maybe they were not just “sad” but were clinically depressed without an official diagnosis.

About the Author

 Gemma’s favorite desk accessories for many years were a circular wooden token, better known as a ’round tuit,’ and a slip of paper from a fortune cookie proclaiming her a lover of words; some day she’d write a book. All it took was a transfer to the United Kingdom, the lovely English springtime, and a huge dose of homesickness to write her first novel. Once it was completed and sent off with a kiss, even the rejections addressed to ‘Dear Author’ were gratifying.
