The Proposition by Katie Ashley

I will gift a few copies cause I loved it that much Well this was an ARC and I read through the darn thing so fast! I admit I loved it! That being said the main reason was the fluff. Why would you not fall in love with the main character Emma? She was young had a great career, a few awesome friends, and a sad past. So Emma has her dream of meeting Mr. Wonderful. it doesn’t happen she feels her HEA is gone and she will never replace him. I think Trevor’s death took her so long to get over because that was her everything. I think that between losing her Dad at such a young age and then two years ago her Mom lost a battle with cancer, this made Emma feel the need to have a family of her own on her own. She figures why wait for “him” when she feels like nothing can match her true love, so she asks her gay best friend to “donate”. As you can imagine it has some witty and sarcastic banter. I love Emma’s best friend Casey who is engaged! She has some of the best lines. She holds nothing back and encourages Emma to give her nasty details all the time. Hilarious!

Wait I did say hilarious too soon. You know why? … here comes Aiden Fitzgerald! He works a few floors up from Emma and is a recent VP promotion recipient. He is drool, swoon, and get your panties off hot. All the girls love him, he is a man whore, a love them and leave them, and sex on a stick! So when he overhears her talking about a child, one thing leads to another and Aiden offers himself. He figures she knows the deal and won’t expect anything.

Well Aiden has a story and it is equally as sad. He has four lovely sisters and is the only boy. His Mom is deceased too and his Dad (who I love) is lonely. So you get a taste of the nephews, the sisters and the Father.

I loved the story and when I got to the end I was left there hanging. I am putting a threat in to the author asap. I need a sequel pronto. I know that the ARC was just missing the page where is says continued in …. the Proposition 2 right? I am really pretty invested in these characters. I want Casey to get her wedding and I want Jenny to date the cook at her restaurant and maybe I want a big gay wedding. So I feel like I know them and that is because is was one great freakin book!!

Jailbird by Heather Huffman

Jailbird

First I will say I have sort of an author crush on Heather. I bought all of her other books because when I read two of her books I new I had to read the rest.

This story was a thriller! It opens with Neena escaping from jail. She is on the run, climbing through the forest, swimming the swamps in the bayou and scaring the crap out of me.It takes a while to find out why she was in prison. That is a BIG part of the mystery, it makes you turn the pages faster. At the end of her journey you will live through her heartache and fear again. It is very emotional. As far as the cops and jail is concerned she was dead, eaten by the gators. Unofficially, she ran into a wonderful family the Torres family took her in after she worked picking vegetable beside them. They all accepted her as a part of their own without asking any questions. It turns out everyone has a past that is just that past. In the small town, she meets Charlie the hot lawyer in the small town. Immediately he is taken by her. He is surprised too because his wife left him and his daughter Cara so he didn’t think romance for a long time. Right away Cara and Neena become a family.

Life couldn’t be more happier for Neena. Of course she is always haunted and her past catches up to her. The thriller starts again. The truth about Neena and her past come to surface. It was a great book. It showed a lot of history between the reservation, American Indians and how they live separated from a lot of American life.

Jailbird is thriller, suspense, and a great romance all wrapped up. I was drawn by Neena and her survival instincts. The best part was the strong families she encountered on the way through her journey.

Please read it!! Get Heather and stalk her, let her know she is great!!

Disastrous (Disastrous #1) by E.L. Montes

Disastrous (Disastrous, #1)

This was on my calendar to read the day it came out. I read through it as I usually do with a great book. I love the mob, that sounds bad I know, but who doesn’t love a good old fashioned mob drama? I really liked this book.

Disastrous is really the story of Mia and Marcus DeLuca. Mia is a brilliant 4.0 GPA Harvard Law student. She had some tough breaks and you will learn all about how her cop Dad passed away and then her brother Michael. So she has no real girlfriends only her roomie bff Jeremy. It focused on the three main characters and how the common thread is a career in the legal field. Through a professor that really liked her she was given an unbelievable chance to extern for The DeLuca law firm. This is a chance that no other 1st year student gets. So when her and BFF Jeremy go celebrate the end of school, beginning of summer, and the interviews for the DeLuca firm, she meets Marcus. Right away you know that they are going to be “it”.

Their story was a little bit of a roller coaster. Lucky the ups and downs were not horrific. So much drama, family, and suspense. It’s full of heartaches and it seems like Mia and Marcus are tied at the level of family drama they each share. Even Marcus’s brother, Jimmie had a tough past he was trying to get over. He and his daughter, Elle were taken by Mia and formed a strong bond.

Even though I loved it the ending left me breathless. I wanted more. I can not wait for the next one and I will have to reread this one before, so that is the easy part. Waiting for book 2 is going to be a killer worse than Uncle Louie.I highly recommend it!

Jailbird by Heather Huffman

Jailbird

I read her other book and was blown away. I have a few hundred Kindle books TBR, so I got this one and here is a Goodreads snip and a review from Sylvain Renard (OMG) what an honor and what a great review it was.

Neena Allen’s life didn’t exactly follow the path she’d anticipated. She couldn’t have seen the twists and turns that would lead her to wander the woods, presumed dead by the prison guards. When Neena starts a new life in a little Arkansas town, she finds a contentment she never dreamed possible. The thing about skeletons in your closet is they always come back to haunt you

Review:

Sylvain Reynard added it *****
A writer can learn a lot about how to write a strong female lead from Heather Huffman. This is the second of her books that I’ve read and I enjoyed it as I enjoyed the first. The redemptive themes of “Throwaway” are also found here but with different twists and different challenges. The female lead is a jailbird – an escaped convict in the southern midwest of the U.S. She undertakes a journey – one might call it a pilgrimage – encountering both good and nasty as she comes to terms with her past, her family and her crime. This could have been a dark tale of despair, but in Mrs. Huffman’s hands the light is ever present. You’ll enjoy this story and when you visit the author’s website and discover how she provides her work for free to encourage readers to support worthy organizations such as WorldVision, you’ll enjoy the story even more

Torn by Amber Lehman

Well, I have sent this book around and I am thrilled to have another guest reviewer @HILLARYHINZ  I appreciate that Hillary said that Krista and her friends are not sure of who they are. I loved the book and the fact that she couldn’t put it down either makes her just as fab as the author @AmberLehman73

Torn

4 solid stars

The fact that many times in this book I kept thinking, where is this going, never stopped me from reading on to find out.  I couldn’t put it down.

I enjoyed the depth of the characters & the real issues they dealt with.

It really is just a great story about a 14yr old girls journey.  Along the way she finds out more about herself, but also realizes her friends aren’t all sure who they are either.  Together they are trying to figure it out.

I highly recommend this book!

Smart Women by Judy Blume

Smart Women
Who doesn’t love the drama of a Judy Blume book? This was a different POV take on a lot of characters. The main was Margo, who after a divorce moved from NYC to Bolder, Colorado. She had 2 kids Michelle and Stuart. Her ex Freddy, a dentist, is remarried and in typical form plays the kids against her. I enjoyed the different POV and how what actually comes out of your mouth is rarely what you feel. I think A lot of Margo’s behavior was more than honest. I think a lot of divorced woman hide their sex lives, boyfriends and tend to behave for the benefit of the kids. So, what I appreciated about Margo was that she was out for herself in a lot of ways.

In addition to Margo there were her two friends, BB who was so troubled and Clare who was a real best friend. B.B. and Margot are casual friends, her daughter Sara was at the other end of BB’s abuse. She was so manic and nobody saw it except Sara and she was too young to understand. BB and her ex had a son Bobby who was killed in a tragic car accident while Andrew drove him and two friends home from a baseball game. The fact that BB kept this a secret was really her downfall. She has feelings that were sealed up for years. Clare had a daughter “Puffin” what kind of a name is that? She was very successful and her ex Robin comes back. The two were never divorced. The cutest thing was when Puffin hooked up with Stu, Margo’s son. Then they had a lot to deal with and that is a reveal and spoiler too!

When BB asks Margo to help get her husband the rental next door for the summer, Margo helps. she and Andrew resist each other, I think Margo resisted more, eventually they get together. I know Margo promised herself she was going to be serious and resisted him for that reason.

Tons of drama and overall I thought it was a solid 4* book. People who wrote and reviewed made comments about the time and it takes place in the 80’s. I really didn’t see that many references and where some saw this as a negative I saw it as a non issue.
