His lips told me he knew me.

His hands touched like old lovers.

His eyes held secrets of a past I’d never known.

I was lost you see.

Lost as the flowers that grew in the meadow.

The devil told me he knew me.

But lies had a way of unraveling, even if we didn’t want them to.

The devil had a trick, for his love was full of acid. Acid that burnt at every touch, every linger, and I let it burn all the way to my core.

A devil made you sin. And my devil was the worst.

But now that devil wanted my last kiss, and it wasn’t one I was willing to give.

He could take the acid and leave the burn behind.

I was keeping my heart, even if I died trying.

“Mouse…”

I take his moment of silence, and slip myself out from his grasp while putting much-needed distance between us.

“You’ll end up hating me, I’ll end up resenting you…” I shake my head and step back again.

“I wouldn’t.”

“You would! You had to be forced into it. It took me almost dying more than once for you to choose me. That isn’t healthy, none of this is. We aren’t good for each other. We’ll keep on burning until there’s nothing left.” Stepping back again, I’m not clear where my car is, but I know it’s not far from here.

“We need to stop, Mouse. I’m ceasing the ellipses. No more pauses or question marks for me. Now it will just be full stops.”

I want to smile at his editor’s metaphor.

I want to ravish in it.

I know better, though.

“I’m full stopping it, Wolf! Before I fall deeper down a rabbit hole where I cannot escape.”

“I’ll chase you, Mouse, right down that rabbit hole.”

Turning, so I’m walking away, I look back only once.

“I hope you catch me, I really do. But this time you may not.”

Everyone has a story.Mine went like this: Once upon a time, I met a boy. He was the most handsome fella in the land. I fell in love. Together, we had cosmic chemistry. I believed I would live a life of unending bliss. Until he broke my heart. Shattered it to pieces. And I lived unhappily ever after instead. The end.

Or so I thought.

Life found a way to reunite us. But to change that unhappy ending, I had to learn how to forgive. And my heart seemed unable to do so.

This is a love story. But it is also, much more. It’s the story of how I coped with my shortcomings, my fears and rewrote my destiny. Everyone has a story. This is mine.

Prologue
I watched her grow. From afar, with uninterested eyes, I watched her grow. She grew in beauty, talent, and grace.
Her mane of black hair flowed in cascades down her back like a tide of obscure water. Its darkness contrasted with her round, sharp eyes. Eyes that matched her stupid name, that matched the sky of an overcast day.
She appeared determined and brave. She kept a perfect GPA, and she lived a life beyond reproach.
She fooled those surrounding her with the pretense of perfection, of goodness. She didn’t fool me. I was the only one who looked at her with sober eyes and saw beyond the façade.
Until then, whatever she wanted, she had gotten. I had to put a stop to the life she had forged through lies. I was the vessel through which she would be deterred.
I resented her for being so assertive. So successful. So deceitful. She should be nothing. Have nothing. She must have been dead.
Yet, she breathed. The heart within her ribcage thumped in vindictive triumph. She lived, ruining my plans, stealing my joy. Trying to take away my happiness, and all that belonged to me.
But I was stronger than she was. Better at the game of life. I would be the winner. I had weapons she didn’t possess. Discipline, foresight, shrewdness. Most importantly, I had one crucial advantage: she had no knowledge of my existence.
I have found that there is only one thing better than reading, and that is writing. I am always torn between the two. I am also frequently torn between chocolate and coffee. However, I emphatically do not like the month of February, lies, and flies. For me, bravery is defined by the courage to do what we fear the most. I live in Connecticut with my husband and two children. Drop a few lines. I would love to hear from you.

A Fine Line by Tracee Ford @FordTracee

Set in Southwestern Ohio, Dr. Matthew Gregory and Robin Hillard meet, fall passionately in love, marry, and settle into their newly restored historical dream home originally constructed in the 1800’s. However, their dreams of a happy life together are challenged by misfortune surrounding the purchase of the home. Soon, they realize that they have stepped into another world, filled with spirits, paranormal phenomenon, and unexplainable realities. The stark realizations as well as other traumas challenge their personal beliefs, the stability of their marriage and, most of all, their sanity. Matt’s logical, scientific certainties are defied when his daughter, Olivia, realizes she is a psychic medium and is able to communicate with the dead. Robin recognizes that her dreams are actually visions of the past directly associate with the previous owners of the home. The Gregory family soon learns that there is a fine line between the world they live in and the world they can’t see. They seek direction through organized religion as well as through unconventional methods in an effort to understand the strange world of the paranormal. Ultimately, the family grows stronger and the relationship between Robin and Matt becomes unbreakable. They finally realize that they can face anything as long as they are together and have faith.
