Nellie Belanger never intended to start university as a virgin. But even though sheโs determined to have her first time before the summer is over, she has two requirements:
Which shouldnโt be
that hard to findโฆ right? After all, all she wants is a no-strings-attached hook up that isnโt completely anonymous.Someone who she can have fun with and who wonโt spread rumours about her.Someone who would be a bit more memorable than a generic guy in a backwards hat that looks completely different once they step out of the dim lighting of a bar.Someone who knows what heโs doing so her first time wonโt suck as much as everyone says the first time does.Someone kind of like the boy next door, her best friendโs older brother with the great smile and reputation for sleeping around. And who just so happens to be the guy sheโs crushed on since she was a kidโฆ
The Boy Next Door is the spicy prequel to the If You Can series, taking place 3 years before Kiss Me If You Can, a spicy unconventional romance coming April 12, 2024. Please see book interior or authorโs website for all content warnings.

โI promise I came here to ask you out again. Officially.โ โOkay,โ she says, a bit nervously. I bring my hand up to cup her face. โThereโs something about you. I want to find out exactly what that is.โ I tell her. She leans her head into my palm and closes her eyes. โWill you go to dinner with me, Maddie?โ Her eyes open, but she doesnโt say anything. I can see in her eyes that she is warring with something. โI know you just got here, and weโve only just met, butโฆโ โYes,โ she interrupts me. โYes, I will go to dinner with you.โ Taking a quick step back, I run my hand through my hair then I step back toward Maddie and pull her mouth to mine again. She comes willingly and she responds like Iโm giving her exactly what she wants. Stepping back, I whisper, โI better go.โ โYou better go,โ she says, like she is even less convinced of that decision than I am. โI better go,โ I repeat and swiftly turn away and walk off the porch. She follows me to the edge, and I can finally see her. The moonlight glows just brightly enough for me to see kiss swollen lips. She is in a shirt with a cardigan and tiny shorts. God, she is sexy. โWeโll talk tomorrow and work out dinner,โ I tell her. She nods, โTomorrow.โ โI want to kiss you againโ I say, aloud. โBut I wonโt because if I do, I wonโt be able to stop. So instead, Iโm going to say goodnight, walk home and see you tomorrow.โ I take a step backward. She remains motionless. โGoodnight, Maddie.โ โGoodnight, Ryder, see you tomorrow.โ I leave her standing on that porch for the second night in a row and it seems like each time, Iโve left a small part of me I didnโt know existed with her.
