SYNOPSIS:

For Abby Renard, the plan was supposed to be simple—join her brothers’ band on the last leg of their summer tour and decide if she’s finally ready for the limelight by becoming its fourth member. Of course, she never imagined stumbling onto the wrong tour bus at Rock Nation would accidentally land her in the bed of Jake Slater, the notorious womanizing lead singer of Runaway Train. When he mistakes her for one of his groupie’s, Abby quickly lets him know she sure as hell isn’t in his bed on purpose.

Jake Slater never imagined the angel who fell into his bed would resist his charms by promptly kneeing him in the balls. Of course, the fact she seems like a prissy choir girl makes her anything but his type. So he is more than surprised when after betting Abby she wouldn’t last a week on their tour bus, she is more than willing to prove him wrong. But as Jake’s personal life begins to implode around him, he finds an unlikely ally in Abby. He’s never met a woman he can talk to, joke with, or most importantly make music with.

As the week starts comes to a close, neither Abby nor Jake is ready to let go. Can a sweetheart Country songstress and a bad boy of Rock N Roll actually have a future together?

EXCERPT

I fluffed my pillow for what felt like the millionth time and tried ignoring the sounds coming from Jake’s bunk. Heat flooded my face when the whimpers and groans escalated. Jeez, it sounds like something off a porno! With my brothers, I had a pretty good mind what he was doing, and it infuriated me, especially after what had happened earlier with Billie Jean.

They all swore to me they’d be perfect gentlemen if I stayed on the bus with them! I silently fumed. What kind of sex-fiend maniac is Jake that he needs to do that again after just getting off at the diner? I don’t care if he needs to relieve some stress after the phone call earlier. This is bullshit!

Flopping back down on the mattress, I crossed my arms over my chest before a frustrated grunt escaped my lips.

“No puedes dormir, Angel?” AJ’s deep voice questioned from behind my curtain.

I flipped back the heavy fabric. He reclined on his bunk, flipping through a sports magazine. “No, I can’t sleep with all the racket going on next to me.”

He met my gaze and grinned. “Don’t get the sexy, lacy panties I dream about you wearing in a twist. He isn’t jerking off.”

“That’s not what I was thinking.”

“Yeah right,” he snorted with a wink.

As if on cue, Jake let out a long moan. I shook my head. “Um well, if he’s not doing that, then is he okay?”

“He’s been having a lot of nightmares lately. I try to ignore it—let him save face and not look like a pussy.”

I rolled my eyes. “Did you ever stop to think maybe you should ask him if something is going on with him?”

AJ quirked his brows at me. “If I started getting sappy and shit like that, Jake would ask me when I grew a vagina.”

“Well, I think someone should check on him. I mean, he sounds like he’s in both physical and emotional pain.”

When AJ didn’t move, I heaved an exasperated sigh before hopping out of my bunk. I could not believe after everything I had been through with Jake so far in the last twelve hours that I even had one shred of care left for him. But I had seen something within him—some flicker of decency—that made me worry and care about him, even when I shouldn’t.

I shot AJ a murderous look to which he held up his hands. “Look, mi amor, guys just don’t do the touchy-feely shit, okay? If I woke up Jake right now to cuddle him, he would get super pissed.”

I ignored him and tip-toed over to Jake. With trembling fingers, I opened the heavy curtain to his roost. Jake had the sheet twisted around his waist. A coat of sweat covered his heavily tattooed chest. His brow creased, and his mouth curved up in a grimace. My hand hesitated above his shoulder. Finally, I shook him gently. “Jake, wake up,” I urged softly.

His body jerked before his wild eyes popped open and swept across the top of the bunk.

“Shh, it’s okay,” I murmured.

Jake’s frantic gaze swept over to mine while he opened his mouth and gasped for breath.

I gave him a reassuring smile while rubbing his shoulder. “You were having a nightmare.”

Jake continued wheezing in air. I eased back as he swung his legs out of the bunk and onto the carpet. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he leaned forward and put his head in his hands. “I’m sorry I woke you,” he replied.

With my protective side shooting into overdrive, I scooted closer to him, bringing my hand to his hair. Gently, I ran my fingers through the dark, sweat-stained strands, pushing them out of his eyes. “You didn’t wake me. I was worried about you.”

His head jerked up as surprise flooded his face. “You were?”

I nodded. “You seemed a little down after your phone call with your aunt. Then with the nightmare.” I glanced up at AJ who was curiously watching us. “I know most of the guys aren’t men enough to handle emotions and issues—”

AJ snorted. “Those are your words, not mine.”

“Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I’m here for you. If you need to talk about something or if you just need someone to sit with you until you can go back to sleep, then I’m here.”

With wide eyes and his mouth gaping open, Jake stared at me for a moment like I had grown horns. Realizing I wasn’t getting anywhere with him, I held up my hands. “Or I can just leave you alone and go back to sleep. Either is fine.”

When I turned to leave, Jake grabbed my hand. “Wait,” he instructed in a hoarse voice.

The Cursed Existence of Jessalyn Bell by Katie Lynn Johnson #spotlight #newrelease @johnsonkatie84

the cursed existence 18374433

Ever have one of those days where nothing seems to go right?

Well, every day is like that for Jessalyn Bell. Falling victim to a streak of extremely bad luck, Jessalyn can rarely go a day without encountering a disastrous occurrence. Her parents’ divorce, her inability to meet quota at her sales job, and the incident in which she’s mistakenly arrested are just the beginning. There’s also the fact that every single date with her boyfriend Kyle goes wrong.

Unpleasant surprises wait around every corner, but through her various misadventures Jessalyn comes to realize that every cloud has a silver lining, that friendships can develop in the most unlikely places, and that love and romance are every bit as spontaneous and unpredictable as a bout of bad luck.

Where I’m From:
I was an Air Force brat growing up, so I’m not really sure where I’m from. I was born in California, then moved to Germany, then moved to New Mexico. New Mexico is usually where I say I’m from, since that’s where I lived the longest. Alamogordo is my hometown. You’ve probably never heard of it. Most people haven’t. And those who have wish that they hadn’t.

Here’s a photo of Alamogordo, New Mexico from Wikipedia. It pretty much sums it up.

Yeah, there’s nothing there. Except for a water tower and tumbleweeds. And dirt. Lots of it.

What I Do:
By day, I work as an editor and graphic designer for a magazine publishing company. By night, I write novels just for kicks.

When and Why I Decided to Become a Writer:
I think I was ten years old the first time I thought about becoming a published author. At the time, I was completely obsessed with R.L. Stine, The Boxcar Children, and Sweet Valley High. When I wasn’t reading those books, I was combing the shelves at the school library for any and every fiction book written for children. I quickly became obsessed with creative writing, and began writing short stories. A couple of them won school awards and my head swelled to the size of the Goodyear Blimp. Then I entered the same stories in a citywide competition, and when they lost I came crashing back down to reality. My artwork, meanwhile, went on to win city and statewide awards. Art became my main focus, but I never stopped writing.

Hobbies and Interests:
I like to bake, and cook, but I don’t do much of either lately because I have two babies in diapers. Being a mommy is awesome, and it takes a lot of time. I’ve always been a big movie-goer, and I’m usually watching an action flick or slapstick comedy of some sort. As much as I love to write, I also have a passion for graphic design. It’s what I went to school for, and what pays the bills.

Note: This novel contains mature content, sexuality, and adult language.

My tongue played in the hollow of one of my canines as I debated whether or not to seize the opportunity. I wanted to know more about Logan and what his deal was, but not at the expense of this boy who was obviously suffering from his ties. My desire for information won. “Logan isn’t an easy guy to be friends with, is he?”
Sawyer deflated. “He didn’t used to be like this. He was a pretty good guy once.” He started walking back the way he’d come. “Now he seems to be all hate.”
I fell into step beside him. “Did something happen?”
He stopped, his eyes meeting mine. They were a washed-out green, but as I watched a hint of a red glow crept into them. He blinked hard, rubbing the closed lids. “Contacts,” he mumbled.
I got close to him, speaking in a low voice for his ears only. “I don’t think it is contacts. I think it’s fae.”
His eyelids flew up and there was no doubt about it. The irises moved like liquid, glowing in reds and oranges. The only word I could think of to describe it was lava. My hand flew to my throat and I took an involuntary step backwards. All fae had a tell—like my glow or Antonio’s skin ripple. I’d just found his. A voice I didn’t recognize rasped out of my own throat. “What are you?”
“You faced down Logan, who’s a Metus Daemon—the basis of the mythical fear demon—and I freak you out?” He snorted and shook his head.
“I just wasn’t prepared, sorry. Is this entire school fae?”
“Not the entire school.”
I laughed as we started walking again. “So seriously, what happened?”
Sawyer shrugged. “I don’t know. Until this year, sure he was a little cranky. He’s raising his little sister, so who could blame him. But toward the end of the summer he started going on and on about living ‘his glory days’ and it’s like he’s another person. When it’s just me and him at his house he’s normal, but then it’s like someone flips a switch and I’m putting out fires. I suppose who better to put out fires than a Vulcan.”
“Wait, like pointy-eared aliens?”
Sawyer snickered. “It’s only logical.” He flashed me a grin. “Not that kind of Vulcan. More like volcanologist.”
“Oh, like volcanoes. So it was lava in your eyes.”
His shoulders rose and fell in an exaggerated shrug. “I don’t wanna brag. What about you?”
“I’m more like astronomy.” My mouth twisted up into a grin. “I’m a Stardancer.”
“Oh, so you’re like bottled supernova.”

Excerpt:

Cassie screamed with pain.
“How does it feel to be on the receiving end of pain, Dr. Jewel?”
“How do you know my name,” the Shadow woman asked squirming on the floor.
“I know a lot of things about you, and none of it is good. Did you feel real powerful when you had helpless people kidnapped?”
There was shock on Cassie’s grey face.
“Yeah, I know all about it. You had three innocent people killed to get your dirty hands on that gold. You are scum Cassandra Jewel.” Jayna grabbed Cassie from the floor and threw her against the wall.
Cassie cowered.
“Were you planning to go to their funeral,” Jayna asked, “and pretend you were their friend? Maybe shed a few tears?” Jayna threw a powerful punch into Cassie’s solar plexus. Cassie doubled over with pain, coughing.
“Stop it,” Cassie whispered hoarsely.

“Why should I? Tell me one good reason I should not kill you?”
Cassie coughed, still trying to catch her breath.
Jayna, that’s enough. Ethan warned her. We are not here to kill anyone.
That’s what the bitch deserves.
Jayna turned around and saw a new stack of gold plates on the dining room table. “I see, you brought more gold from the Underworld,” she said to Cassie.
She walked up to the table and scooped up the plates in her arms. They were about ten pounds. Awesome! We’ll make a few more miracles with these.
Cassie screamed with rage again. “Put those back. You can’t have them. They are mine.”
“Not on your life,” Jayna said and walked through the wall. Ethan and Colin followed her; they didn’t want to lose sight of Jayna for a second, in case the demon came back.

YAH GOTTA READ THIS!

I’m With You by Glenna Maynard @gchellewrites #review

I’m With You is seriously one of the best books I have read in this genre. Glenna Maynard is new to me but has written a few other books that have been well received. A little about the story and characters Bella Rose and Cutter Dawson. Bella opens as a very troubled girl. As the chapters go on you find out little bits about Bella and her suicide mission. She is lost and broken since the death of Harlan. Everyone has singled her out and far too many think she killed him. His brother Nolan is lurking all the time, that is painful. When she runs into Brianna Jenkins things seem to get worse. Here is a very unique description of Briana “is just one of those girls that once they have pissed in your cheerios, everything about them rubs you the wrong way. Even her shade of pink lipstick makes me want to smack her” THIS is great!

Intending to end her life on a specific day at the falls where Harlan died, she meets Cutter Dawson. Now both of these amazing characters who are both a little broken try to heal each other.

What I LOVED was Bella and her mental health. Dealing with her manic depression is hard. After spend almost a year in a psychiatric facility she manages to see a doctor and take part in therapy. I dont know how much of this will be important to others, but I thought that it makes the appeal for Bella so much stronger. Many times the author discusses the medication and the importance of therapy and taking her meds daily. For me, this was so important. I also like the fact that there is a stigma about being in a facility even if she was there to deal with depression. She is in my opinion bullied into seclusion. She can not take the stares and whispers and with her diminished mental capacity to deal, she takes drastic steps. She removes herself and pretty much doesn’t communicate with others. I am so glad she accurately depicts this part of grief and longing.

There is her Grandma, that pretty much raised Bella. She is stern but so loving. Her home cooked meals will make you drool with wanting. The description of her garden will make you want to swing with a glass of lemonade while gazing at the roses. There is a special bond there. When Hurley comes into play as Cutter’s friend who gets him a job, you will get the funny things that certainly lighten the mood.

So many things happen that will leave you just staring into the book with your mouth hung open. Yes it is THAT GREAT.

PLEASE read this book, review it and tell the author how you loved it. It will mean a lot to her to hear some praise.

Seraphina Orielle, an angel of divine fire and light, was also an oracle of foresight. Considered adolescent among her peers, she had yet to master her gift of precognition when her first vision came to pass; a captivating male whose destiny was intimately intertwined with her own. Yet he was not of angelic design. In fact, he was very far from it. Tragically, by the time Sera discovered this pivotal detail, he had already attained ownership of her heart.

But not her ability to flee…

A hundred years later and Cole Asteroth does whatever the hell he wants. When he’s not busy, that is, with ‘dirty deeds, done dirt cheap’ for his master. Ornery and sarcastic, he gets his kicks wreaking havoc in the human realm. Oh, and making very un-angelic women beg for his touch.
