Unmasking Maya is chick lit plus 1. I loved Fashioning a Romance by Libby Mercer, so I jumped to review this one too. The author is bringing a little bit more heat to this book. I like me some heat and this was gooooodie!!

Fashioning a Romance

Just my kind of book pure romance and fluff!! I would have chosen this as a great beach read. The American Caitlyn Taylor, gets super lucky when she meets Sophie. Sophie then offers her a chance to go and assist her in London with dress making, in lieu of rent. She glosses over the fact that Sophie and her family are very wealthy and Caitlyn works a lot to feel like she is giving her “all” to Sophie. With a family history of divorce, cheating, and instability, poor Caitlyn is charmed by Sophie’s brother John, but recognizes a player immediately.

She does see John as a handsome and caring CEO, but she fights her feelings. Then the dilemma comes (drum roll dom dom dom dom other shoe drops! bam) What to do when she needs has immigration trouble, no visa and must come back to the states? Both John and Sophie separately deal with the laws and Caitlyn fights the heat. The drama comes with all of it and it is some good stuff! John gets creative and sneaky when he tricks Caitlyn.

A thoroughly enjoyable read with humor, funny music titles added in and love. Don’t miss it!

She has to remove herself from what her father did . Very deep part of the book. Maya comes to explain her past, as does Derek. He is the ultimate computer geek. Imagine a really hot computer geek and that is Derek. When they meet he is sort of arrogant and I didn’t think they would get together. I can’t say the road was easy for either one of them.

I loved this one and thought the road, even though filled with angst was worth it. It showed how computer and tech guys just work endless hours a day and are devoted to their trade, so much so they miss out on a lot.

When I finished this book, I had another idea for the author about a sequel to this one. I thought Lin, who befriends Maya was funny and interesting. I would like to see a few of the other people who worked at Unisco have a story. Maybe Lin can head up a team that infiltrates computer hackers? I guess I just want more. Big 5* and recommended!

The Corner Window by Darrel Rachel @dswriting

This story really surprised me. In the beginning I will say I was intrigued and it started to get a little creepy. It all starts with a recent High School grad Frank Baldwin who was in a bad place. This poor guy had so many things to worry himself about. I wished he would have a little peace and quiet. His parents divorced and when I say they hated each other, it is being kind. His mother took the anger out on him and his brother, who we didn’t hear much about. So Frank starts looking for a job and thinks “this is wrong” when he sees the advertisement, but calls anyway. He gets into a conversation with Mr Lansing and he sounds like a wacko, but Frank goes to meet him. When they meet Frank is of course over-thinking and driving himself mentally crazy. The quirkiest rich guy Mr Lansing tells him he will call, and he does and Frank takes the job. He moves to southern California. All places but fictional things, in my mind I think, cause I live here, it is So Cal. I think Frank was by Camp Pendelton and maybe lived on the beach by San Clemente. In my mind that is where he was.

At this point all that you can feel about Frank is that being alone is a good thing one day and not so good the next. The fact that he constantly hears his mother’s negative things about life play on a loop in his head is painful. I felt bad that he was never really allowed to be a teenager. When he was on his own, instead of thinking about upbeat things he was thinking he had no life skills. He never learned to cook anything and found after the first trip, grocery shopping sucked. Instead of being happy and carefree by the ocean, he was thinking it is expensive to feed myself. He found to look and hear the ocean had a calming effect on him. When he worked a little too hard he went to swim and that relaxed him. The effect that divorce has on kids is really evident here.

He gets involved in a very clandestine relationship with a neighbor Sylvia. No spoilers, but the entire thing is so secretive, poor Frank drives himself almost insane thinking and over thinking. He needs a spring break vacation in Cancun with a few good men! That is ME thinking too much again. Well the story unravels and it takes me on a ride that I was not expecting. The ending blows me away. This really is something that a lot of people would find appealing. Besides the angst, the romance, the suspense, there is a certain character in Frank that was so appealing. I loved it and I am proud to offer a kindle and a paperback for a giveaway. I also have to read the other books this talented author wrote.

Political Suicide by Michael Palmer @Michael_Palmer

Political Suicide by Michael Palmer

First I say WOW! I liked Dr. Welcome before this novel and now even more at the end. This is the perfect blend of medical and political drama. It just proves that Mr. Palmer can write both types of stories equally as well. For those who like the political aspect, the way it ties into the entire murder and how someone (no spoiler) is accused.

When Lou, Dr. Welcome, discovers a patient unconscious at the site of an accident the red flag goes up. In fact Dr. Welcome is specializing in helping physicians to overcome addictions. When he soon learns that his friend, Gary McHugh is the person of interest in a murder investigation. Well now it all starts us running full speed ahead because it is a US Congressman who is dead.

Ready, set ad GO! An affair, murder, politics = you staying up until 3am to finish the book. When the military becomes involved, Dr. Welcome has to do double duty here. The conspiracy and his friend are on the line. There are many clever ways the author draws you in and one was a real pretty lawyer who is not so kind and has something to prove.

As for the author, I have read so many of his books ad I find them all equally appealing. I like that he does quality work, consistent stories and characters. I don’t like when books are turned out so fast that you don’t know what to expect. Here you always know it is going to be good. It will be a hit for all you suspense lovers and of course the political aspect is great too. The Do you need another reason to go grab it? no believe me go buy it!

On another note I loved The Second Opinion I think it was my favorite.

Happily Ever Before by @AimeeVCR @Followtheblonde GIVEAWAY

Happily Ever Before

This book started out so funny and I think it was these authors and their great details that can make you laugh at a tragic death. Referring to their Dad’s death by getting plowed by the snow plow as before Popsicle and After Popsicle is hilarious! ( BPP Before Popsicle Passed) This tale is about Grace (who is 35 and sort of lost in her career choices. She has done many things and is looking for her passion) and her Sister, Clair (married to Henry with everything perfect in place). Two sisters, one drunken pact and a choice that changes their lives forever. When Clair gets the news she can’t have a baby, she digs deeps and finds a ziploc with the “pact” and brings it to Grace. As for Grace, she is looking, searching and not having success. Two years ago it was training to be a 911 operator, now it may or may not be baking cookies. when her sister who is married and wanting a child comes to her and says maybe you can be our surrogate, Grace’s life changes. Grace, the free spirit older sister, who promises Clair, that she’d have her baby. They were totally drunk but what shocks Clair and Henry more is the Grace agrees.

Now everyone becomes involved. Diane, Grace and Clair’s Mom is just as funny as these two girls and then the in-laws. Henry’s Mom is a hoot and also known as “The Mayonnaise Queen”. When Grace agrees she is just starting relationship with Jack, a fireman who she has talked to through work for about 6 moths. She tells him and I was shocked, gasped and shook my head when he said he liked the idea of surrogacy.

As we follow Grace, Clair, Henry,Diane, the in-laws and Jack through the journey there is a serious side and an almost  wet your pants side.  Henry wants to be closer to Grace and he has a compulsive need to give Grace bizarre and overly personal pregnancy gifts. He shows up with breakfast and then a trainer Reid who is going to make sure Grace is healthy. Then there is Grace’s best friend George (a girl) who needs a new drinking buddy, but decides she will go to AA instead.

As the sisters are faced with all of these dramatic life lessons you will laugh, cry and cheer. Grace was awesome as was Jack. There are many quotes below and these are just a sampling of what Happily Ever Before has to offer. A seriously great read.

My fave quotes and clippings:

Grace would be the planner and Clair would be the wild child. To be honest, for a short period of time, a time we will refer to as BPP (Before Popsicle Passed),
– Highlight Loc. 440-41

“What if Grace had an inhospitable womb? With the kind of people she’s let in to the place and all the alcohol she’s drank, Grace’s womb probably looked like a hotel room after Tommy Lee trashed it!”
– Highlight Loc. 961-66

He played with Grace’s hand, he liked how if felt in his. “I look at it this way, there are times when a choice shows up out of the blue, from nowhere, and you’re like where the hell did that come from? But, it came to you for a reason. The universe brought it to you because it knew you could handle it. And, maybe you’re the only person who can do this particular thing at this particular time. When you love someone you sometimes have to sacrifice a little bit in order to show them how much you love them, but that’s me and I’m not the one who’s going to have to give up ten months of my life or, may I say, a spectacular body, to have someone else’s kid. So, you need to look into your heart and figure out who is in there and why.”
– Highlight Loc. 1309-11
“Masturbation makes life easier. ‘Nuff said. I read that a woman should have an orgasm a day; it keeps the stress away.” A laughing George sucked down her shake, “you’re serious about this?” “Damn straight sister!”
– Highlight Loc. 1706-7

Last night he attempted Mozart’s “Prague Symphony Number Thirty Eight” and, well, I’m no music critic, but I’ve heard a cat in heat who sounded better than that.”

– Highlight Loc. 2415-16

“We know that,” said Clair. “Do you need condoms? Plus we have to get you a wax. Do you want to buy some sex toys, get some KY Jelly?”

“Grace,” Dr. Yael smiled, “stop thinking. Just be.” “Just be? I’m not sure that’s me,” Grace huffed. “Try saying this whenever you panic about it: just be calm, just be quiet, just be.”

George poured the hot water into a mug and grabbed some concentrated lemon out of the fridge and squirted it in. “She’s been trying to take a shit for over an hour and can’t.”

“She’s all red faced and sweating and she doesn’t look good.” “Call an ambulance, now.” “She doesn’t want one.” George peeked in on Grace who was shit wiggling away in the living room. “She’s doing a shit wiggle—that might help.”

“Be the shit, love the shit, free the shit—just push.”  “If I push any harder, I’m going to give myself a stroke. Shut. The. Fuck. Up!”

“Who’s putting this stuff together? Is the store sending someone?” Henry smiled. “Nope, I’m doing it.” He then put down his side of Sal’s box. “Alone?” An alarmed Henry, Sr. asked. “Need I remind you of the camping debacle of ninety-one, the Christmas tree massacre of ninety-five, and the entertainment center crash of just six months ago?”
