Grief and the service of our armed forces are at the center of this story. The author tells a tale that is heartbreaking good. I felt this family was in desperate need of help. Poor Madalynne. When her brother is killed she changed a great deal with her future goals now not so clear, Maddy needs to grieve. This loss coupled with the teen angst had me really emotional. Maddy and Parker are now facing a huge battle. Parker is still healing from his brothers suicide, which is bad enough and then the reveal. Why did he take his own life? SO gripping. 

 

 

The author takes you on a grief journey with these two lovers and their parents. The author gives the direct point of views of both Maddy and Parker. Their world is too familiar nowadays. We as Americans see this type of  event happen way too much. How can these two accomplish anything and be able to move on? Well the author takes you and guides you to the path towards healing. 

There are a few characters that play a pivotal role here like Jacqueline and Lee. The two of them come into the story and bring even more angst. I really loved this book and I hope for a lot more from the author

This was a pretty good debut. I am going to say please look at the cover, this is a trilogy, so know it before you begin. There is more to come and sometimes its a double edged sword getting in on book one. It sometimes takes a while to get book 2 and 3 so I don’t want to have to re-read this one. That said, I am not telling any tales or giving up a spoiler, this is gonna be a cliff hanger!

Overall I enjoyed the characters Mason and Angel. It was kind of a “fate” moment how they meet and fall for one another.  Heading to Florida to get away from her ex boyfriend was a life changing moment and for me I like dark so I liked the abuse part. I think it endears Angel a little more.

The author also lets Mason be a gentleman. I sort of liked how the character was a doctor and had more bed-side manors than most, he was one of a kind and totally swoon worthy.

Fearless Love by Kennedy Kelly #review

The book starts after the tragic loss of Miles Cole, Audra’s husband. It is a sad story because of how he dies. I wont spoil it, but it was a shocker. The characters are different in the fact that they are a little older, Audra is 35 and a professor. She has a lot of life to live and she is in that transitional stage of grief.  She is not a shut in, she goes about life and sort of just exists. I was glad that the author didnt create a great depression out of this character. She has some great friends that aid in trying to balance out her grieving process.   The book starts with Audra on the cusp of healing from the loss of her husband Miles.sad-quotes-with-images

 

I liked Audra and of course Jace and Jackson, her children. Now, there is her best friend Quinn who was comic relief for me. Audra has a nickname for Quinn; she calls her “hooker”. Not ideal, but for Quinn I think it fits well. I laughed anyway and that is all that matters.  It was good to have a funny and light character to balance both Audra and Brecken. When the girls go out she runs into Brecken and it turns out he took one of her classes. He is a few years younger, but lucky for me nothing huge. I am glad he was self-sufficient.

Audra was a professor but that aspect of her life wasn’t really spoken about much. She wasn’t an old English professor reading Hamlet so for that I was thankful. She was the perfect blending of smart, sexy and well read. It was an enjoyable read that made me smile even though grief was the main subject.

Brecken comes to give an estimate for work to be done on Audra’s house. I was sort of glad that she was doing a little remodel, I think it was helping the healing process. So hottie Brecken enters to give an estimate. Great story there. Some pretty  emotional parts, making it worth the read! The end of the book meant the end! Another book completed, no series or cliffhanger. There was yummy steamy scenes too.

I find inspiration from dreams, people I meet, and life experiences. When I write, I usually end up drinking one too many cans of Peace Tea, eating three too many Fruit by the Foot fruit snacks, and accidently kicking my pup and best buddy, Kolo, too many times since he loves to sleep under my desk at my feet.

Blind Attraction (Reckless Beat Book 1) by Eden Summers @edensummers1 #Review

First things first Alana was different. The way she grew up was totally new and different. So being with her mom who deals with battered women has to leave scars. I found her vulnerable side appealing. She was well versed in men abusing and mistreating women but didnt have fear, so I liked her a lot. I think the author created a really lovable girl here. Alana came across as very willing to get out of her comfort zone and she wanted the experience. So for her to “want” to experience new things without fear was refreshing!

Mitch was the usual rocker. When you find his story reveal it was another “new” for me. I liked the band, the music and the usual groupies. I think the author did a great job with Mason, Blake, Ryan, and Sean.

 

I look forward to more of these guys and Kate. I think when the base is strong, like this book, it can go far. I totally recommend it if you like the band groupies, hot guitar players and love.

For fans of mystery novels especially cozy mystery novels this is great. Johnee Cherry created a great read! Lilly Corn is a character! I loved her from the beginning. She has so many things going on in her like. She is first a mom then a blueberry farmer and a waitress. She also takes care of her Dad. Her Dad is a hoot. He is suffering from a few ailments and is comical. So he decides for Lilly he is going to advertise for help with the blueberry farm and Hudson answers the ad. oooh baby

As for the other characters there is her son, Travis and her ex husband Kirk. Kirk is a loser, greasy used car salesman. It seems he is running numbers, being sneaky, and not a really good parent. I loved the way Lilly managed all of these characters. The Yahoola is a bridge that basically is referred to over and over as a landmark.

The Hudson story is fascinating. He is there for a reason, while I wont say what it is, he makes it appear that he is prospecting gold. What he is actually doing is using the most technology that is around to find gold.

I really enjoyed this plot. There is a really good character base and story. The best part for me was the history and the nosy people in town. I enjoy when a book is modern and yet still has some old charm to it. I thing it will appeal to the mystery and cozy mystery lovers.

I live in Texas with an old dog and my imagination. I garden and pull a lot of weeds. For Sunday afternoon fun, I hand feed my pet tortoise, Little Miss Prissy, tomatoes on the front porch. I spend a lot of time traveling dirt roads, and not necessarily to fun places, since the closest grocery store is too hell and back. I never forget my ice chest when I leave home, and always come back with a full tank of gas and a loaf of bread. I write about the people in my head. My characters often travel with me, telling stories in my ear, and I do find a new one or two on my adventures in the backwoods, when I can find a tree, here in Texas.
