After The Rain (Sunflower Trilogy Book 2) by Jennifer Domenico @jendomenico #Review @GCReading

eaa21-review2bimage5

Jealousy, insecurity, secrets, and even lies come between them and their blissful happiness.

The story continues… It has been four months since Ava and Enzo started their relationship. It has been a great bovel so far. Now that we are pretty solid I think the characters are much more vivid here. Checca, Grayson and Cassie are settled and woven pretty tight into the saga that has become Enzo and Ava. There is so much of a future, for me as a reader, with Enzo. I think he is guarded with everyone but Ava. There is more angst here than in book 1 for sure.
There are a few huge reveals that come sneaking up for both Enzo and Ava. What I love is the loyalty that Checca has formed with Ava. I really like how genuine she is and how she has accepted Ava as a sister. Their friendship is another sub plot to like. I enjoyed how Cassie and Chris were accepted into this too. I think the trips to Italy and the acceptance of Ava was another plus. Being I am Italian, I can say that we are loud, somewhat boisterous and we love hard. A lot of the time I think an outsider would feel alienated by the language and the love for another country other than the US but the author makes them so warm and charming you gotta fall in love with them all!
The wedding day fiasco almost broke me. I dont think we are done with it either. I think Anna is lurking and the threat seems real to me. So if you enjoy romantic suspense then this trilogy is a great addition to your library. I will say that there are times where you will read and just smile, cause Enzo is a little bit of a romantic man. Oh hell I lied he is a lot of romance!

Jennifer Domenico

Jennifer Domenico started writing as a five-year old child in the back of her mother’s bible in church. It was a way to keep the fidgety child quiet but even then she took simple stories and twisted them into even more imaginative tales. As she grew, the stories grew with her and she filled notebook after notebook with her musings. As an adult, she knew she wanted to be a writer but she lacked the attention span and inspiration required to produce a full length story. Eventually she put away her notebooks and turned her attention to the business world where she toiled away for many years. She stopped reading fiction, stopped entertaining
her outlandish imagination, and stopped dreaming of being a writer. Until one day, many months ago she went to sleep and a beautiful love story played out in her dreams. When she awoke she felt compelled to write it down. And she wrote and she wrote, for days and days she wrote. The result is part one of Enzo and Ava’s story. Turn Towards the Sun is her first, but certainly not her last, novel. Ms. Domenico lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her very Italian husband, a dog that adores her, two cats that tolerate her, and wicked sweet tooth. She is currently working on part two in the series.

His secretive past comes to light in the most public way, and Ava gets a glimpse into the cold, dark man he was before her love opened him up.  —————————————————————————————Excerpt

It doesn’t take me long to reach the
cabin. Grayson greets me as I run up to the house. The girls are already
inside, getting settled. So is Kyle. I can see them inside the main room, the
one with all the large windows.
“You guys are here early.”
“Well, you know how Brooklynn loves
her early mornings.” I roll my eyes at my friend, because Brooklynn is not
the morning person of the group. Dakota is. And now, apparently so is Kyle
because he comes bouncing down those stairs with a huge smile on his face.
“This place is sweet!” He grabs
one of the bags, and heads back into the house without another word.
“He’s very cheerful in the
mornings.” Grayson comments.
“Grand.”
The girls walk out then, coming down the
porch stairs. Brook heads toward me, but before she can hug me, she crinkles
her nose and frowns. I know Dakota is standing next to her, but I’m keeping my
eyes strictly on Brook.
“Really, Chance? This is how you
greet your guests?” She waves her hand over my sweaty body.
“Yep. Come here, darling.” I
reach for her, but she drags Dakota to block the path, nearly making us
collide. Dakota is wearing her usual annoyed expression and the simplicity of
practiced interactions make me braver. With a gleam in my eyes, I lunge at the
girls, wrapping Dakota in my arms as I reach for Brook hiding behind her. Both
of them squeal, trying to wiggle out of my embrace.
The movement does weird things to my
insides as Dakota’s frame fits so perfectly against mine. Brook manages to
escape, and now it’s just Dakota and me, locked in an embrace. I look down at
her, my eyes crashing into hers and it’s like everything I’ve ever imagined.
Time stands still for one perfect moment, before I’m bending over and gasping
for breath.
“Did you seriously just punch me in
the stomach?” I rasp, glaring at Dakota’s smug smile.
“You’re lucky that’s all I did.”
Oh is this how we’re going to play it? Good thing I know this game. Right then
and there, I decide that I’m going for it. Just for this weekend, I won’t hide
from Dakota and my feelings for her. I’m going to rebuild the awkward
friendship we’ve established last year and see where it takes us. I know she
sees the change as my eyes light up, mischievously.
“You know, Dakota. You stink a bit of
sweat. Maybe you should take a little bath.” I reach for her, my
intentions clear. She smacks at my arms, turning to run back into the house and
away from the hot tub that’s a lot closer than she’d like. I haven’t been
running all my life for nothing. I catch up to her easily, grabbing her from
behind and lifting her clear off the ground.
“Chance! Don’t you dare put me into
that water. I swear I will get you for it.”
“Awe, honey. Promises,
promises.”

Victory RUN 3 (The Story of Victory Payne) by Devon Hartford @DevonHartford #Review

What I have loved about these books is the pure passion for guitars! There was more of Victory and Julian here. I think the mixed feelings I had for him have up and ran away. Julian turn out to be much more powerful and influential in the music and music promotion business. Things really need to happen for Victory.

The author takes you on more of an emotional highway with Kellan and Victory. Kellan does do a few things that are so nice for Victory in this book.

The drama fest that lurks for her and her career are amazing. The characters behind the scenes of th emusic industry keep it moving at a fairly fast pace. The answers to the “Don’t sing” mantra Victory has been going on about are reveal and WOW just a big WOW.

During this book a few pop divas are revealed too.

YES and guess what? the GunSlinger competition heats up NO NO NO

Switchblade?? seriously you are the devil!

Wait NO you are a lesbian For real?

Not a threat?

Not evil?

OK not after Kellan ?? but everyone thinks you got it going on.

HA slowly I like her again!

Now to hate Giselle the one who done my Kellan wrong!

Julian well I cant spoil things and you are hot

Extinguisher_Lady

Lastly for my loves was the character Olivia, Victory has a best friend who is great. She charms you, loves you fiercely and can sing.

A lot of people ask me, “Why is a guy writing romance novels for women?” The answer is simple. Everyone falls in love. Even men. Imagine that. 😉 But it goes deeper than that. I write romance to explore and understand my own emotions. No matter what most guys say on the subject, emotions are a part of the human experience for women AND men. Guys who deny their emotions, especially the difficult ones like sadness, grief, loss, and hurt, are missing out on a big part of life. Everyone has emotional scars. It’s impossible to make it from cradle to grave without getting banged up along the way. For all that pain, we can also heal ourselves. My stories feature characters who are on a quest to heal their pain, and in the process, find love. We all know that a loving relationship can be a conduit for both partners to heal together. When that happens, it’s truly a beautiful thing. It’s my hope that my readers can gain some perspective regarding their own emotional wounds, and perhaps heal in some small way by going through the emotional journey I went through while writing my stories.

I loved this book and I know you will too. That is if and only IF you like erotic romance. I think maybe this is spicy but maybe not all erotic, either way who the hell cares it is great fun. Colton Drake is a dream. I have some delusional thoughts towards him. So the premise of the book is that Colton buys the virginity of Sophie at a special private auction. It is believable to me. I thought at first it was going to be crazy and not so well … believable. It hits the bulls eye for me

One million dollars to Sophie for her sisters treatment and Colton gets a woman for 6 months.

What I love about Kendall Ryan is the humorous touches in her novels. This of course is no exception. There were times I laughed and there were times I wanted to cry. I did actually even laugh at inappropriate times too.

If you need a lift then I say grab it now. I love how the series is released so close together too. Pace is one of Colton’s brothers and I like him and I really want him to have a story too.

Marta who is a personal assistant to Colton is wonderful so she gets a nomination for a story of her own too. Overall some great characters and some steam what more can a girl ask for?

 **Warning: this
book contains an addictively filthy alpha male who will dampen your panties and
own your days and nights. Proceed at your own risk.**

Meet Colton DrakeI have no idea why she auctioned off her
virginity for a cool mill. Regardless, I’m now the proud new owner of a
perfectly intact hymen. A lot of good that will do me. I have certain tastes,
certain sexual proclivities. My cock is a bit more discriminatory than most.
And training a virgin takes finesse and patience – both of which I lack.

Sophie Evans has been backed into a corner. With her sister’s life
hanging in the balance, the only choice is to claw her way out, even if that
means selling her virginity to the highest bidder at an exclusive erotic club.
When Colton Drake takes her home, she quickly learns nothing is as it seems
with this beautifully troubled man. Being with him poses challenges she never
expected, and pushes her to want things she never anticipated.

A sinfully seductive erotic
romance where everything has a price and the cost of love is the highest of all
from New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Kendall Ryan.

Totally loved this debut. If you look at the cover, to be honest it is misleading, this is a gritty novel. There are some circumstances Liliana faced that were explosive! After 7 years nothing for her has changed. She has a family owned coffee shop in So-Cal. She lives a quiet and very modest life in her Grandma’s house. I loved the Balboa Island references. It is very close to my heart and everyone knows I love the beach!

As for the plot; hold onto your seat. It is a very well thought out book. All of the characters play a significant role. When someone is stalking, you won’t guess who it is. I particularly fell in the love with Maxwell and Lil together. After they are together the group known as “The Blues” (for their gray haired color) who are the “root” of the Balboa Island population. Now for the record the places, scenery and descriptions are very accurate and you will fall in love with Southern California like I did.

679bf-wowredyellow

The author worked the character of Lil’s suspicious nature into the plotso it was basically seamless. No errors or inconsistencies. She wrote a very strong and business minded girl for Lil and a handsome friend from the past for Max.

As for the love story here..it is HOT! I am talking a chili pepper hot. After an attack, Lilianna could never really date. In many ways the author wrote a very blah existence for her until Max. Well my oh my several big scenes are just the right amount. Marshal is juicy with a capital J!

Please read this one and visit a small island in Southern California!9f5fd-5halfstarblogbook

Ryder (Scorpio Stinger MC, #0.5) by Jani Kay #review

No MC ” lingo” and sadly I think it’s another author trying to capitalize and jump into the MC genre. It is a new and popular genre for most but it has been there for a long time. I wasn’t a fan of this. There was one part that got to ME. I’m not easily offended by ANYTHING so an 12 year old in juvi forced to give oral to a fellow juvi is NOT necessary. I am sad at the shock value in that. For a reader of dark and MC books I cant recommend.

“Time for a beer boys, let’s go to the clubroom. Ox get all the hangers-on out of there. Only patched brothers”
Just an example.

As far as consistencies go it misses the mark too. The main character obviously Ryder is a rough guy so the four letter words fly. I can take the language and actually enjoy the alpha male, but when Jade, little miss Beverly Hills, rich kid, I am a lawyer and graduated top of my class starts using the four letter words, the crude ones too, I was like wooooow stop it right there. The next page she is saying ” Surely you are wrong” well maybe I am cause you were using the dirty c word last page. Did honey Jade forget her lithium?

If you like Motorcycle Clubs aka MC books try Madeline Sheehan, Chelsea Camaron, Emily Minton or Crystal Spears. All give a unique look at this culture and some are dark but I assure you a 12 year old’s oral copulation is not involved.
Lastly the MC lifestyle is not flaunted and they tend to be very secretive, so I find it hard to believe the tough Ryder falls for Jade and wants to make her his. Has Jade ever been to a compound? Does she know about them? Does she get they are family and come first? Bar fly chicks? Old ladies? No?? No so it was far fetched. OH heck now I am babbling.

I am not known for posting bad reviews but this is an exception for me.

2 star

Captivating Bridge by Michelle Mankin @MichelleMankin @Brandeesbook #Review

Took a nights sleep because mentally I was too drained to even write the review but…I will say I did get my redemption answer!

OK a few hours of sleep and now I am ready. Book 1 showed us the author had a great group of characters and displayed betrayal and drug abuse. Book 2 shows us that people can overcome drug addictions and function in society. Featuring Bridget and Justin both who had struggled with addiction. Book 3 goes back to War. the suicide and depression angle was great.

When War meets Shaina it is something special. These two are at a life impasse. I loved the struggles they both faced. The author does a great service to her readers showing them that everyone at one time or another thinks about suicide. People often feel worthless or under so much pressure they imagine peace. For War, losing his mother was hard. I think in book 1 he struggled with her and her parenting skills. I say that loosely. Now Shaina is a sitcom teen star, but really 21. She has pressure because she is holding onto the memories that haunt her. I loved how she wanted to help War overcome. Shaina thought her sister Cass’ suicide was preventable. Truth be told if you are in a dark place sometimes there really is no saving you.

They struggle through her family and the extreme pressure put on her acting career and War’s old band.

Truthfully this was the best book in the series for me anyways. Please grab this series especially if you backstage band drama.

Now on a side note. If you do an author the service of reading their work in an ARC format I think you know what the genre is, if not then clue yourself into the cover. Just looking at the blurb and cover tells you it is going to be steamy. So dont take the book if you are a prude.

Michelle Mankin is the author of the Black Cat Records series of novels.
Romance with subtext.
Reimagining classic stories with sexy rock stars and thought provoking issues.
For many years she worked in the insurance industry as an underwriter. Somehow, the boredom didn’t kill her but the hours and hours of looking at facts and figures provided ample time for her mind to wander.
Black Cat Records in Vancouver provides the central backdrop for all of Michelle’s current novels. Love Evolution, Love Revolution, and Love Resolution are a Brutal Strength centered trilogy, combining the plot underpinnings of Shakespeare with the drama, excitement, and indisputable sexiness of the rock ‘n roll industry.
Things take a bit of an edgier, once upon a time turn with the Tempest series. These pierced, tatted, and troubled Seattle rockers are young and on the cusp of making it big, but with serious obstacles to overcome that may prevent them from ever getting there.
When Michelle is not prowling the streets of her Texas town listening to her rock music much too loud, she is putting her daydreams down on paper or traveling the world with her family and friends, sometimes for real, and sometimes just for pretend as she takes the children to school and back.

The Mistaken (The Mistaken #1) by Nancy S. Thompson @NancySThompson #Review

TheMistaken.indd

Writing this review is gonna be hard This was more than amazing rivals some huge authors. First I think this is a thrilling book with a slice of romance. I saw some comparisons and well, in my opinion there are none. There was no Stockholm syndrome, again in my opinion. Anyways the characters in the forefront are Tyler and Nick brothers. Nick is somewhat of a troubled soul. He was driving when he had an accident that results in the death of his parents and sister who was 15. Tough to read those parts. What is worse is that that event sets the entire book into motion. It brings feelings between two brothers that should never be spoken or felt. Nick knows his troubles with drugs and drinking are nothing compared to gambling.

The rest is a cat and mouse that I swear rivals any Stuart Woods or Patterson book out there. We at least know that Nancy wrote this book! The plot and the characters are excellent. I saw nothing but brilliant writing, characters and plot. I saw no spelling errors and the cover was outstanding too. There are so many interesting twists and turns here make sure you can devour the book fast because you will be sleepless over it.

If you like suspense with a romantic twist then PLEASE read this one. Book 2 is out and book one doesn’t leave you hanging so for that I am thankful. It is a marvelous start to a series.

Nancy is a California transplant currently living in Seattle, Washington with her husband of 23 years, their son, a student at Seattle University, their giant snow dog, Jack, and his kitty, Skye. She works as a freelance editor for her publisher and writer friends and also has her own interior design business within the model home merchandising industry. When she’s not writing or editing, Nancy keeps herself busy by cooking and baking.
