Stranger at Sunset by Eden Baylee @edenbaylee #Review

 3a641-reviewimage5
A vacation can be a killer.
Dr. Kate Hampton, a respected psychiatrist, gathers with a group of strangers at her favorite travel spot, Sunset Villa in Jamaica. Included in the mix are friends of the owners, a businessman with dubious credentials, and a couple who won the trip from a TV game show. Sounds like fun right? YES it was I loved the set up of the book and the introduction of Dr Kate. This is a very interesting character. Aside from being a respected Psychiatrist she has eidetic memory, commonly known as a photographic memory. Most people dont really understand that this is real and it is both verbal and photographic. Kate is a rare case because she recalls both. So I loved her.
Among the rest of the guest going to Sunset in Jamaica is Nadine and her husband Ben, the evil travel reviewer Matthew Kane and Jessica along with her boyfriend Rob. Jessica was an adorable southern girl that won her trip on the Price Is Right. She is a young blogger (gotta love them bloggers) and her boyfriend is a very odd, immature, uncouth and  somewhat abusive man. I dont think he realized how he was abusing Jessica because he was dumber than dirt! Lastly there is an entrepreneur Adam from Chicago. He is like a mogul who has Steven Covey type businesses. I liked his edge too!
 heres what happened Bubble
It is January 2013 and the owners Ana and Nolan greet their guest. Kate has become close with them and has vacationed there several years so she sees what the hurricane did to the island of Jamaica. If anyone remember the old book by Agatha Christie and film And Then There Were None, this had an eerie feel like that did. So Anna invites Matthew back to hopefully review for the second time her hotel. Matthew was a character that the author created brilliantly. He had these requests that are so far out there it was laughable. He wanted menu items, fragrance free laundry detergent and no pesticides anywhere near him.
Television Critic Association's Summer Press Tour - CBS/CW/Showtime Panels - Day 1
In this extremely detailed novel we get to the point that Matthew is missing, presumed dead. It is a rare telling too. The author uses chapters with different POV’s and narrators. This is super easy to follow along with too even though I know  I am probably not describing it the correct way.

When the incident occurs, for spoilers sake I wont say, the way it is done was mind blowing! I am a mystery lover and this was something that rivals a Patricia Cornwell novel. That good!
Stranger at Sunset is a well written thriller with a cast of characters that will leave you begging for more. I am thrilled that there is going to be more Dr Kate She is an amazing woman.

It is January 2013, following the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The luxury resort is struggling, not from the storm, but due to a scathing review from caustic travel writer, Matthew Kane. The owners have invited him back with hopes he will pen a more favorable review to restore their reputation.
Even though she is haunted by her own demons, Kate feels compelled to help. She sets out to discover the motivation behind Kane’s vitriol. Used to getting what he wants, has the reviewer met his match in Kate? Or has she met hers?
Stranger at Sunset is a slow-burning mystery/thriller as seen through the eyes of different narrators, each with their own murky sense of justice. As Kate’s own psychological past begins to unravel, a mysterious stranger at Sunset may be the only one who can save her.

Victory Run 1 (The Story of Victory Payne #1) by Devon Hartford @DevonHartford

There’s only one rule in Rock & Roll: Don’t sleep with anyone in the band.

Victory Payne is the hottest lead guitar player on the night club scene of Hollywood’s infamous Sunset Strip. With nothing but her car and her guitar, she’s ready to claw her way to success. Victory never gives up.

Then she breaks rock’s cardinal rule. She falls in love with her lead singer, the gorgeous and brooding Scott Walker. That is mistake number one.

Mistake number two is a roadblock named Kellan Burns. Kellan is primed to claim the title of hottest lead guitar player in Los Angeles with his rugged good looks and his own guitar slung as low as his tight jeans. Kellan isn’t the kind of guy to let some upstart babe with a six string stand in his way.

Victory Payne, meet Kellan Burns.  BOOM. Ladies, you will need a fire extinguisher for this one.

A lot of people ask me, “Why is a guy writing romance novels for women?” The answer is simple. Everyone falls in love. Even men. Imagine that. 😉

But it goes deeper than that. I write romance to explore and understand my own emotions.

No matter what most guys say on the subject, emotions are a part of the human experience for women AND men. Guys who deny their emotions, especially the difficult ones like sadness, grief, loss, and hurt, are missing out on a big part of life. Everyone has emotional scars. It’s impossible to make it from cradle to grave without getting banged up along the way. For all that pain, we can also heal ourselves.

My stories feature characters who are on a quest to heal their pain, and in the process, find love. We all know that a loving relationship can be a conduit for both partners to heal together. When that happens, it’s truly a beautiful thing.

It’s my hope that my readers can gain some perspective regarding their own emotional wounds, and perhaps heal in some small way by going through the emotional journey I went through while writing my stories.

The Lake House Secret by Debra Burroughs @DebraBurroughs #review #giveaway

I am a big Debra Burroughs fan. When I read Three Days in Seattle (buy it here) I knew I stumbled on to something really good. This book has the romantic suspense theme that I love. I am also one of the stars. I am Aunt Renee! Yup that is me. I am so happy I won that contest  Anyways enough of my babbling.

The story starts out creating the love I had for Jenessa. She has a bad day, she gets the lay off speech at work, goes home to see a 3 day eviction notice and then hears her Dad has had a heart attack and he didn’t make it. Sorting through this mess is going to take time. So I get invested in her character and I feel sorry for her, but I admire her strength. She hops in her old beat up Toyota and drives to Hidden Valley. When she gets there you are introduced to Aunt Renee (ME) and her sister Sara and Ramey her best friend. It is here that all the secrets come out. There is a huge murder investigation, a lie, a betrayal and a BIG family secret.

On the way there poor Jenessa gets stopped by the police. It is something that happens to her often. She may have a lead foot!

Enter Mike

Gosh he is cute, smart, and has shown great improvement since high school.

The lovable Aunt Renee (me) gets the word there is a report job and recommends Jenessa. Lucky for her she gets the job. Being she has a parent to mourn, a job to do, and about $5 in her pocket, she needs to get together and move on. It is a  Jenessa Jones is immediately pulled into the human remains story. Juicy and interesting. She has a flair for getting a detective on her side. I loved her and George together. Not a spoiler, but she does have a way with getting him on her side to spill a secret or three.

Now enter Logan. He is the one who got away. Well I dont know if that is accurate anyway. I hated him and then loved him. The author does a great job of adding one mystery and one secret at a time. Seriously a page turner. This town is chock full of drama.

Obviously I loved Jenessa, she was all that! Funny, pretty, smart and sneaky! I liked how there were secrets being spread out through the Hidden Valley chapters. I also liked how she second guessed who was the killer. There is a chapter where you even think it may be her best friend. A very good plot that moves along at a steady pace.

The biggest reveal was about Logan the boyfriend who stole her heart. His part is a steamy must read for sure! The characters are all lovable in a way that you know they will be in the next book. I hope it is a long series. Long live Aunt Renee! Did I mention that was me? I’m a star!

Debra Burroughs writes with intensity and power. Her characters are rich and the stories are full of compelling suspense and real romance. She can be found, most days, sitting in front of her computer in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, dreaming up and writing about strong women, their relationships with men (good and bad), involved in exciting, mysterious, and romantic situations.

A Peek at Bathsheba (The David Chronicles, #2) by Uvi Poznansky @UviPoznansky #Review

a peak at bethesda 22608503

Uvi Poznansky gets yet another five big stars from me.  I really enjoyed this book more because I have just came off a few Rock Band type reads and I felt educated in reading this.

“A Peek at Bathsheba” by Uvi Poznansky is so different from other books I have read. It’s a blending of history, non-fiction and fiction. I truly enjoyed the author’s style. For the first time in a long time I didn’t see grammar issues, run on sentences or typos.

David is a very complex and difficult character to learn about. Here the author takes much of his persona and creates a tale based on some classics. I don’t want people to think this is a religious novel. It is much more of a creation based on the King we know as David. Apart from the David I am aware of I learned about some personal tragedy here too. It sort of slides along a thin line of what you think is actual history and what you think is actual fiction. David was a writer, an amazing musician, a poet, and so much more.

What I loved was how we see him and his wives, which is a different concept to me. I liked him falling in love. I still find it hard to believe it was a cultural thing to have more than one spouse, but who knows maybe more people should!

IF you want another very well written novel that inspires thinking, then yes grab this one. I think people who like history based reads will just love it. If you like history with a political type undertone, then grab it.

Game Changer by Collette West @Collette_West #Review

game changer 22464513

Yet another book to love from Collette West. What I really like is the fact that it is a series but each book is a different couple that is connected through baseball. In other words it is a series with no cliffhanger and enough drama to keep ME happy.

Sasha and her brother Kyle play the baseball loving family siblings in a great way. Brooks is one of greatest guys. Why? He sorta likes his team mate Kyle’s sister but keeps his feelings suppressed so Kyle wouldn’t be upset.  Brooks has a lot going for him, so Sasha isn’t an easy mark. What Brooks doesn’t know is that she is into him too.

Now for the sad and emotional part of Kyle. Well Kyle has a heart condition and it doesn’t look good. Being Kyle is athletic and young it is hard to believe at first. I thought to the stories I hear in California where I live about kids who have undiagnosed heart conditions and die during practice for a spot. It made it really real.

Very good story, characters and romance. I loved this book as much as book one. So if you like romances with the emotional part then grab this one now.

Same plea as I made with book one, I am a basketball fan. Can I get a basketball book please??

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball’s biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette’s impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.

Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she’s not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her at collette_west@yahoo.com.

I have to admit that when I read the blurb for Tumbleweed, I was NOT expecting it to be as dark. I love dark and this was NO exception. The author totally blows my mind with this one! The characters are wonderful but nothing compared to the plot. The story centers around one young photographer Hayley who I loved. She was free and very sexual. When her relationship with Mikel, a famous and wealthy Spanish soccer player goes wrong she goes a little crazy. Mikel was the catalyst for her change. It takes Hayley to exotic places. She encounters rich socialite Celine and her husband Jack Luck. I loved this part of the story!

HOT in here Blanche tumblr_m6eem8nNsk1qkuabbo1_400

After leaving Hayley goes to Egypt. She feels safe and has two tour guides both named Mohammed. She comes up with nic names by splitting their names up. Mohammed’s girlfriend is Nubiti, she comes back in a way I was not at all expecting.

wowwww

Hayley learns so much about their culture, scenery and photographs many places. Where Hayley goes wrong is, in MY opinion, when she decides that the sexually repressed should be corrupted. Hayley sets out almost immediately to lure the boys into having sex. YES it was hot!

condoms tumblr_ll39ahfJh41qiy7sxo1_500

She planned this and has a camera bad loaded with them!

All the while the political corruption, Mubarak and some awful people start the darkness. Baba is Mohammed’s father and he hold Hayley and abuses her. It is dark, nasty, raw and unbelievable to read. So much more than I was expecting!

From the author of the erotic romance series “The Vitamin D Treatment” and “Side Effects, The Vitamin D Treatment Finale”, Julia Bramer turns the erotic romance genre upside down in “Tumbleweed”. Tapping into readers’ primal fears and incorporating reverse gender stereotypes and recent historical events in an intelligent way, she weaves a complex tale of love, heart-racing romance and sex.

The Charm Necklace by Lauren Rosolino @laurenrosolino #Review

A very solid debut. There is a lot of character in the plot, the sadness did seem to dominate the beginning. So glad that Skylar was the star and narrator. She was with Michael for 6 years and they were to be married in June. Michael was a good guy. Rob and Sue, Michael’s parents, made a decision that caused me a lot of angst. I really liked how Sophie, who was Michael’s sister was close with Skylar. The relationships and family were pretty strong, which made you really want to take the pain away. It was a trying time and the author took me through the grief she felt. Her job as an admin in the police department was sort of cool too. I liked how her relationships there changed becuase of her grief. Overall a really good read.

For the not so good, in my opinion, the cover. I am not one to point things out but …there is a but I have seen so many authors make this mistake and then re-work a cover. To me it doesnt scream emotional romance. While the girl on the cover is ok, she doesnt seem even old enough to be Skylar. Like a lot of other bloggers will say that yes people do judge a book by a cover and this is a failing grade. People will find it hard to get past the cover to the really hearty and emotional book that this is.

4 star blog book

Author of The Charm Necklace and writer of stories about finding beauty in brokenness.

I have this tragic/fatal flaw where I have to believe that something good and beautiful comes out of the dark places we go through in our lives.

I graduated from Wayne State University with my BA in Psychology and I live in Rochester, MI with my techie husband and our dog, cat, and bunny. I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit reading Harry Potter, watching Gilmore Girls, listening (and dancing) to a lot of music, and wondering why people do the things they do.

At the very basic, I am a writer. Wife. Coffee drinker. Adventurer. Lover of words and books, the woods, and walks.

The Charm Necklace is my first novel (hopefully of many more!)
