OK here it is my next BIG thing.

inside me is capable of love.

Book Review

I KNOW when I read something within a few pages if I like or love. This BLOWS me away. I have almost 30 quotes. What I loved was the deep story and the ultimate foundation for the entire story was FAITH, God, love, family and hope.

Though we had all the money most people can only think of, we were the rejects of the plastic city of LA, where artificial is the norm and the normal is outdated”

As very wealthy family begins a life, here is Portia. She is perfect and soon to be a star herself. Her Mom and Dad divorced and she immersed herself with her best friends Tarry and Nillie. All three come from wealthy family backgrounds. Portia McGee and her friends created a list “Things to do before we die” yeah I know I wanted to kick Nillie myself for naming it that. Anyways they make the list and start checking things off. The base of their childhood is friends. They have Estela who is Portia’s nanny. There is a story about how she learns Spanish from going to Guadalajara and saying she is a relative so that the kids will play with her. The only real Motherly love Portia gets is from Estela her Nanny. As the three go on to their lives, they get together and make it fun whenever they can.

Portia has to get a temporary tattoo for a big role. Enter Will, the artist. He is not a traditional tattoo artist, but a recent grad of the Columbia school. WOW a smart, talented artist who can tattoo.

What I LOVED was the meeting of Will and then his family. His life was so tough and I won’t elaborate and spoil that part, it is to be read and savored. When he introduces Portia to Dan, his Pastor Dad and Maritza, his Mom along with the overly outspoken and protective sister Melody (Mel). I loved Mel for the way she protected Wil. She was one of those I hate her characters, but that is the author’s beauty of storytelling. When you think you can’t stand someone, but you do totally get the dialogue and where they are coming from. Mel is also very forgiving, very pregnant and very loving. The fact that she is on leave from being a police officer is exceptional character placement to me. Her partner Lucas is a sub-plot character, that only adds more depth, showing why she is a fierce protector. Her Husband Tim is in Afghanistan and again the message is family, Dan and Maritza really support her during this trying time. Then there was Rick, the co-owner of the tattoo shop. Now he adds certain messaging to the story, which relates well to Will’s growing up.

It doesn’t take long for Portia to understand what Dan’s valued have done to Will. He has taken this kid, made him into a better person and shown him the Lord. Will has accepted it and leads a life based on faith and giving back.

So as you know, when I believe in something I sell it big. THIS is big. I hope and pray that the message is received and just maybe touches a few people. I want everyone to read this and take a new and different meaning from the many lessons that are here. Don’t just know something, but feel it, live it, grow from it, and experience it.

“The point being, no matter how much we try, sometimes it is impossible to like certain things or people”

It is both well written and a wealth of story telling genius. I always say if you read something and it leaves an impression, share it, pass it on, shout the title and get others to read it. I will make sure others read this. I am so thankful the author found me and let me experience her writing. Bravo!!

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Chasing Stars is intended for mature readers, containing sexual content and strong language.

Stupid by Choice by Leighton Summers‏ #review

I have to say this was my cup of tea! Back in the day I would walk into the book store and go to my genre of choice and actually choose the longest book. Nothing was worse than being on the good old F train going into Manhattan with nothing to read. Sadly you have to look at the people on the train with you, not good! Anyways This book had a lot of great elements. Melanie St. John was a Texas Oil Attorney’s daughter. Most of the story she struggles with wealth and whether she wants it or hates it. Her and her parents and sister have a lot of emotional turmoil in their lives. The books shows a side of Texas that isn’t usually shown. The oil business is as big as their hats! Oldie is the typical wealthy attorney who loves with his heart and his wallet.

iStock_000001392817_Small

Melanie thinks she is getting away with a secret and her boyfriend David. I know this is a mini spoiler but….Oldie confronts her and wahooo does he have the goods on his little virgin daughter. It broke my heart and this is where I loved to hate Oldie. He was genuine in his care and concern for Melanie but it tore my heart out. She loved David. Yes there wouldn’t be a book if she chose David. I know that, but the characters were really real to me and spoke to me. I grieve the loss of David!

As Melanie decided to go to UT and with her sister and her friend Eva they start college life. Eva was the daughter of Helmut. OH my did that man scare me!  I really liked the dark side of her. Her life, chances, and the experiences she was famous for were priceless, scary and tragic. When the family goes to Europe and discovers what a colossal mess Eva and Whitney have gotten into.

 ????????????????????????????????????????

Melanie watches Whitney have fun and never let college consume her. She seemed to consume, champagne and men. I liked all of her. She was not superficial, she knew what she wanted and was a semi alpha girl. I guess I appreciated her vision. I enjoyed all the fearsome foursome and their antics. All the college and angst of growing up were were played out well. I liked how descriptive she was with the areas. Whether in Texas, New York, Paris or Italy the author was descriptive with the areas letting you visualize it.

????????????????????????????????????????

Melanie was a wonderful and rich character and so was the book. This is a great weekend at the beach book.

4 .5 stars

High Society, High Style, & High Drama!

BIG, RICH, TEXAS: WHAT REALLY LIES BEHIND THE GLITTERING FAÇADE OF DEBUTANTE LIFE?

Beautiful, bold, and born with a silver spoon firmly planted in hand, Melanie St. John is, by all outside accounts, the picture-perfect Texan Oil Princess. An independently wealthy daddy’s girl through and through, Melanie has spent her adult years flitting from one exotic, exclusive locale to another, being wooed by handsome, successful men, and in the dizzying center of dazzling, diamond-encrusted society life.

But behind the glittering façade of her debutante life lays a very different story.

In Stupid By Choice, this summer’s must-have beach read from author Leighton Summers, we follow the fictional and fabulous Melanie as she attempts to find true, lasting love amongst the wealthy, jet-set, spoiled, sought-after playboys in the elite social circles of Texas, Monte Carol, Manhattan, Newport, and Palm Beach.

Facing one destructive love affair after another, as well as financial troubles, family drama, unplanned pregnancy, and more, Melanie and her friends traipse through the high high’s and low low’s of elite society, all while negotiating the blows they’re dealt with vulnerability, extravagance, and a resilience that every woman, regardless of social strata, will recognize as her own.

Stupid By Choice is pure fiction, but it’s entirely inspired by the affluent, privileged world that I grew up—and still live—in,” says Summers. “All that glitters is not gold. It’s easy to get caught up in the glamour of it all, but no matter what your age or station in life, we all have to learn—as Melanie does—to not be ‘stupid by choice’ and stay stuck or settle if we’re not happy.”

A celebratory romp through the lives of ladies who have, lose, and ultimately triumph over it all, Stupid By Choice is as juicy a summer read as they come—equal parts entertaining, thought-provoking, and emotionally gripping. Among the topics and themes explored in it are:

  • Don’t mess with Texas! An insider’s look—good and bad—at what socialite American society life is really like from a Texans’ P.O.V.
  • The ‘problem-free’ lifestyles of the rich and well groomed: does money solve as many issues as one might think?  Or does it just create more?
  • Handling divorce, infidelity, family problems, motherhood, and career goals with grace and fearlessness
  • Finding courage in the face of the unknown, taking risks, and following your heart!

Emerge (Evolve Series #1) by S.E. Hall @Emergeauthor #review

Emerge (Evolve Series, #1)
Laney Walker obviously is the center of the story. She has a best friend, Evan, who turns her boyfriend. I don’t think it was ever clear if they did define their relationship. It was clear they were tighter than clams. Her life has been sort of sheltered. It was a genuine sort of story with a little twist. Her Mom was not around. If was not glossed over either. I loved the way the author dealt with her home life. It was something painful, but believe me in the circumstances I have read others where the author takes it so over the top that I cry. It was a coming of age story that was well told.
“I want to remind her that we’re ingrained in one another and always will be.”EVAN

I think what I mostly enjoyed were the intricate relations between Laney and her Dad.He was by far one of the best single parents I have read. He was unique. As for the others, well, I can’t really say anything to spoil the plot.  Her best friend Kaitlyn and now new room mate Bennett were so likable. It is hard to say more about the rough spots and Kaitlyn leaving for college too. You will have a love hate relationship with them all.

Lastly Laney meets Dane Kendrick. He is different, bold, up front and he treasured her. I thought Evan was protective, but Dane cornered the market on putting Laney on her pedestal. I hope you enjoy this one and look forward to more. I would totally go in the pool with Dane. Yes did I mention he has a hot tub too?

It is HARD to think this was a debut. WOW so much promise!

A story of growing up, friendship, loyalty, first love, primal love…and life.

Laney Walker is a quick witted, athletic, southern tomboy who lets few get too close, using her sarcastic zingers to deflect. She also has no idea how others view her since Evan, her best friend, has coveted her since they were children. But college puts a gap between Laney and Evan that neither of them were prepared for; old relationships are tested, new ones are formed and nothing will ever be the same.
Especially when in walks one Dane Kendrick, not at all the familiar, southern charmer of home, but an animal all his own.
A story of growing up, friendship, loyalty, first love, primal love…and life.

Book Review

Val Wilson hates celebrities! When she is introduced there are snippets of the real aspects. By real, I mean tangible aspects of Hollywood. The reasons Val’s Mom Caroline is legendary. She has a drinking problem, she speaks outs, and she has reason to act crazy.  Caroline Carter went through a huge ordeal  that eventually comes out. Now I won’t say it justifies her actions, but it does clarify why she is the way she is.

Val’s is going to celebrate her birthday with her  best friend Daisy. I really liked the Daisy character. The most important characteristic of Daisy was friendship. Since Val was 6 Daisy was by her side, more like a sister. Daisy’s Mom Annie was the Nanny/Housekeeper with the biggest heart. All of the reveals concerning them were great. Daisy and Val have lived together for a while. Daisy has an attitude about men that is, well thinking like a man. She doesn’t get attached, she has fun until she is done, then moves on. Daisy you are awesome! I really can’t wait for you to read what happens with Daisy.

f23b6-bff-1

Back to the story line. Val has Daisy and a twin set of guys  (Paul and Adam) They are all very close, for many reasons and the base is always friendship. Adam decides on a night out, let us celebrate and liquor Val up. Always there for Val and they worry she will go into a downward spiral. They were a really important part of the sub-plot. They have some quick and snappy dialogue that was a high light for me.

Bobby has a best friend in Sean.  Bobby is the Hollywood It Boy. The funny part in the first few chapters about the beginning of their night is Val no knowing who Bobby is. She doesn’t buy into the whole Hollywood scene, so meeting him doesn’t mean a thing. That was SO important to the story. Val was not star struck, in awe, or drooling, she was just Val. Her friends dont fess up either, but that is what makes the bond strong. They always shield her, because of her upbringing.

When the small reveals happen, Val takes them on. She dives into work at her “self funded” animal shelter. She does so much with animals out of love and really really enjoys her job.

The plot is delicious! This has a romance, a deep family issue and I know my romantic suspense readers will love it. This is also a debut. For me, when I read something so good as a debut, I thinking there is so much more to come. Now readers, come and embrace Val, Daisy Adam and Bobby!

Will Bobby’s love be enough for Val to finally stand up to her Mother?

Can Val accept that when it comes to what’s in your heart, you should NEVER THINK?
