Unscrupulous The Manhattanites by Avery Aster #review @averyaster

averyaster_blogbadge3_400x2251

This is the second in the Manhattanites series. The book states it is a stand alone DONT believe it. You MUST read book 1. Dont cheat yourself and skip it. I am screaming it!

So here I go…onto the reasons why I love Warner Truman. He is one of the richest men on the planet who has a good upbringing. Surprise surprise, no divorce, no abuse, and no drama. That is refreshing. So this spa and hotel  mogul has a past relationship that is sad, but turns him into a charity philanthropist.  No spoilers.

At the end of book 1 he encounters Taddy Brill. He knows Mademoiselle Red. What he does not know is that she is Taddy. Then bam bingo he is hooked. He goes a long time sniffing for the tuberose scent. When he snuffs he out OMG! She is stunning, and very confident. Taddy Brill is under Warner’s skin. He wants her and he is determined to get her.

6cf52-hot

What I love is the way that Taddy is described and written. She is an amazing woman who is so strong and independent  You will love her even more when you peel back all of those layers. It is a very deep and emotional book. This woman is a fierce friend who will stop at nothing to help Lex, Vive and Blake. She is the most loyal boss to Kiki her assistant. That is the other reason I love her. The tale of Kiki is almost as good as the way she cares for Birdie, Lex’s Mom. 99297-bigswoon lots of steam

The next book better come fast because this series is so hot it is a best seller for sure. The romance and sex Oh my! It is naughty and romantic at the same time. It is thought provoking in a very good way!

OK here it is my next BIG thing.

Book Review

I KNOW when I read something within a few pages if I like or love. This BLOWS me away. I have almost 30 quotes. What I loved was the deep story and the ultimate foundation for the entire story was FAITH, God, love, family and hope.

Though we had all the money most people can only think of, we were the rejects of the plastic city of LA, where artificial is the norm and the normal is outdated”

As very wealthy family begins a life, here is Portia. She is perfect and soon to be a star herself. Her Mom and Dad divorced and she immersed herself with her best friends Tarry and Nillie. All three come from wealthy family backgrounds. Portia McGee and her friends created a list “Things to do before we die” yeah I know I wanted to kick Nillie myself for naming it that. Anyways they make the list and start checking things off. The base of their childhood is friends. They have Estela who is Portia’s nanny. There is a story about how she learns Spanish from going to Guadalajara and saying she is a relative so that the kids will play with her. The only real Motherly love Portia gets is from Estela her Nanny. As the three go on to their lives, they get together and make it fun whenever they can.

Portia has to get a temporary tattoo for a big role. Enter Will, the artist. He is not a traditional tattoo artist, but a recent grad of the Columbia school. WOW a smart, talented artist who can tattoo.

What I LOVED was the meeting of Will and then his family. His life was so tough and I won’t elaborate and spoil that part, it is to be read and savored. When he introduces Portia to Dan, his Pastor Dad and Maritza, his Mom along with the overly outspoken and protective sister Melody (Mel). I loved Mel for the way she protected Wil. She was one of those I hate her characters, but that is the author’s beauty of storytelling. When you think you can’t stand someone, but you do totally get the dialogue and where they are coming from. Mel is also very forgiving, very pregnant and very loving. The fact that she is on leave from being a police officer is exceptional character placement to me. Her partner Lucas is a sub-plot character, that only adds more depth, showing why she is a fierce protector. Her Husband Tim is in Afghanistan and again the message is family, Dan and Maritza really support her during this trying time. Then there was Rick, the co-owner of the tattoo shop. Now he adds certain messaging to the story, which relates well to Will’s growing up.

It doesn’t take long for Portia to understand what Dan’s valued have done to Will. He has taken this kid, made him into a better person and shown him the Lord. Will has accepted it and leads a life based on faith and giving back.

So as you know, when I believe in something I sell it big. THIS is big. I hope and pray that the message is received and just maybe touches a few people. I want everyone to read this and take a new and different meaning from the many lessons that are here. Don’t just know something, but feel it, live it, grow from it, and experience it.

“The point being, no matter how much we try, sometimes it is impossible to like certain things or people”

It is both well written and a wealth of story telling genius. I always say if you read something and it leaves an impression, share it, pass it on, shout the title and get others to read it. I will make sure others read this. I am so thankful the author found me and let me experience her writing. Bravo!!

Stupid by Choice by Leighton Summers‏ #review

SBC-CoverSparkle_Plain

I have to say this was my cup of tea! Back in the day I would walk into the book store and go to my genre of choice and actually choose the longest book. Nothing was worse than being on the good old F train going into Manhattan with nothing to read. Sadly you have to look at the people on the train with you, not good! Anyways This book had a lot of great elements. Melanie St. John was a Texas Oil Attorney’s daughter. Most of the story she struggles with wealth and whether she wants it or hates it. Her and her parents and sister have a lot of emotional turmoil in their lives. The books shows a side of Texas that isn’t usually shown. The oil business is as big as their hats! Oldie is the typical wealthy attorney who loves with his heart and his wallet.

iStock_000001392817_Small

Melanie thinks she is getting away with a secret and her boyfriend David. I know this is a mini spoiler but….Oldie confronts her and wahooo does he have the goods on his little virgin daughter. It broke my heart and this is where I loved to hate Oldie. He was genuine in his care and concern for Melanie but it tore my heart out. She loved David. Yes there wouldn’t be a book if she chose David. I know that, but the characters were really real to me and spoke to me. I grieve the loss of David!

As Melanie decided to go to UT and with her sister and her friend Eva they start college life. Eva was the daughter of Helmut. OH my did that man scare me!  I really liked the dark side of her. Her life, chances, and the experiences she was famous for were priceless, scary and tragic. When the family goes to Europe and discovers what a colossal mess Eva and Whitney have gotten into.

 ????????????????????????????????????????

Melanie watches Whitney have fun and never let college consume her. She seemed to consume, champagne and men. I liked all of her. She was not superficial, she knew what she wanted and was a semi alpha girl. I guess I appreciated her vision. I enjoyed all the fearsome foursome and their antics. All the college and angst of growing up were were played out well. I liked how descriptive she was with the areas. Whether in Texas, New York, Paris or Italy the author was descriptive with the areas letting you visualize it.

????????????????????????????????????????

Melanie was a wonderful and rich character and so was the book. This is a great weekend at the beach book.

About the Author:

Leighton Summers is a sixth generation Texan who has traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe her whole life.  During her travels she was always surrounded by interesting, successful (and often eccentric) people who encouraged her to find her passion and live life to the fullest.  Writing novels always intrigued her, and so one day while in New York City she took out her laptop in a café and decided to jot down some notes about how a female character created from her own world could “love smarter.”  Over the next four years the notes turned into both funny and sad adventures of a women’s quest for finding friendship, love, self, and family and she weaved them all together into this, her debut novel.

Review:

First let me say that this topic is a tough topic to tackle at any age, but for the main character Kayla it was at a very pivotal time. Kayla’s story starts out really difficult. There are a few conversations, although one sided, between her and her Mom that are VERY hard to read.

virtual bitch slap photo: Virtual Bitch Slap VirtualBitchslap.gif

The point I am trying to make is that her Mother, who obviously has issues, is totally to blame. The author writes this subject matter in a way that makes you totally want to go to Carl’s Junior and smear a jalapeno burger on her face! After that get her some chili cheese fries and force her to eat them all. Yes I hated her and what did did to Kayla and her sister.

Kayla began this dangerous obsession with losing weight just as she meets Cameron. Cameron Bennett is trying, as Kayla resists his advances. He does succeed. Thankfully Cameron is the BEST character in the book. I really think this is a must read! For those who love drama, romance, very difficult subjects and angst. The redemption and healing aspect will make you smile! It will fill up your angst tank for sure.

Book Description

Val Wilson hates celebrities. Being raised in Hollywood by the Legendary Caroline Carter will have that effect on a person. When Val’s mother carries on the tradition of causing yet another drunken scene to celebrate her birthday, her best friend Daisy decides she needs a night out. Val reluctantly agrees to go but unbeknownst to her, she’s just stumbled into the very same bar as the current Hollywood It Boy, Bobby Patrick.

Val’s friends keep her in the dark about Bobby’s identity and an unexpected night of fun with a hint of humiliation ensues. Bobby is determined to break through the obvious wall she’s put up, no matter how much sass she throws at him. Once her most sacred secret is exposed Val can’t deny her feelings any longer and a passionate, undeniably core-quaking love consumes them.

Their new relationship becomes vulnerable as Caroline sets their demise in her sights but Bobby helps Val understand she will never have the relationship with her mother she’s always yearned for and more importantly she doesn’t deserve the drunken, heartbreaking mental abuse she’s dealt with since a child. Will Bobby’s love be enough for Val to finally stand up to her Mother?

Can Val accept that when it comes to what’s in your heart, you should NEVER THINK?

For months before she went to New York, he fooled her, playing the platonic friend when in fact he wants nothing more than to take her as his lover – and more, much more.  But he can’t do that – he can’t let those emotions overtake him – not again.  But on her first night home he blows his cover. And suddenly Claire sees him in a whole new light.

Writing is Helen Karol’s great love and she finally decided to stop talking about it and made time to devote to it.  Chances and Choices is her debut novel. She is a Canadian, currently living in England.  As an international teacher of language, literature, media and film, she was thrilled to discover a variety of cultures and countries.  Before teaching, she was a photographer in the Canadian Air Force – until motherhood made basic training seem like a vacation!  A mother and a very, very young grandmother she treasures time with her family.  When not writing she can be found watching fitness videos while eating cream cakes – one of these days she really will start joining in.  Honest!

A Note from Helen

I write stories I love to read. My students will tell you I am cynical but the fact is – scratch a cynic and you find a romantic!  So I really am a romantic at heart and write and devour romance of any kind.   So naturally I write romantic love stories.  I love strong yet nice guy, tender heroes –the bad boy has never really grabbed me – well okay maybe once or twice but I never let him hold on for that long!

I have been lucky to write about and teach media and film for years and so I l am a big fan of romantic comedy, as well as crime and supernatural films and television.  I particularly love the ones with a great enduring love story where they are friends as well like Hart of Dixie, Vampire Diaries and Bones.

Julian and Claire’s love story is a combination of these – enduring friendship, romance, a subtle alpha male, a strong female, a bad boy and girl we love to hate, along with cast of characters and a dollop of tongue in cheek humour here and there.  The other characters will have their own love stories in the series but we still follow all the other couples.

Oh and I also love magazines, fashion and the world of film and television so that is where the action is set.  Most of all it is about the joy of love, deep enduring relationships and not being afraid to embrace emotions good and bad.

-Book 2 is expected out October 1st 2013

Review:

Don’t get me started on how I WANT the next book. I saw a promo for this and when I went to Amazon to buy it I saw people has the absolute sheer stupidity to take stars off a rating because it was a book 1 in the series. It is clear and explicit that it is a series and not a standalone read. Why be negative? I don’t understand that. The author didn’t say it is a series and book one is tied up with a little bow and perfect ending. No matter how many times I saw “cliffhanger” in the reviews I still wanted to scream. For me I totally defend the book, series and the cliffhanger. Maybe I should go through some like The Siren, how long did we wait for book 2. Oh wait Kristen Ashley cranks them out so fast and I waited for Dream Man. I didn’t see people bitch that she produced with no sequel ready either. Oh let me please mention Gabriel and his Inferno how long was that??? Give me a break and read on….

It reminded me a lot of a Kristen Ashley book. I don’t ever say that easily or lightly. The characters for example were really good. Start with Cassandra. A really young, raw, naive, jilted, smart, 22 year old and recent college grad. She has been wronged and is not the usual example of being wronged. She deals with it in her own way. I liked her style!

Then her best friend Hillary is great. They are similar in many ways and the relationship works for me. You learn about her Grandparents, her Mother Felicia and her beginnings

Now for the Caleb and Hillary thing; she crushed on him since, well forever  This is another reason why the supporting cast in a book is so vital. It is needed. This book has great bones, strong foundation and a structure that is now solid.

Mark is the loser who was caught with the tramp Mackenzie in page 4. She shows up again a few times and well he does too.

So forge ahead and let me say Logan is juicy! He is a great character who, like the others, is well rounded. He is who he is, does what he does and has no regrets. He is truthful and bold and that is why I liked the character. He has a history that is discussed and you will get the reason why he is so delicious to me.

Last in the support arena is Oliver, Logan’s son who is 4 and Julia, his sister. Julia is a bit of a spitfire with major opinions on Logan;s lifestyle. She never hides or shy’s away from what she thinks is right or wrong. There will be a point where she really shows her loyalty to Logan and Oliver.

Pull yourself together Cassandra! So many times she says this and I get a laugh out of it.

I love the way the book had drama, bad dates, scary dates, good morning jog scenes, and friendship. That being said I loved it and I am giving a bunch away!

A Night to Forget is the first book in the two-book series, Emma’s Story. The second book in this series, The Day to Remember is scheduled to be released in 2013.

What happens in Cancun doesn’t always stay in Cancun.

When Emma Anderson and her friends decided to spend their senior year Spring Break in Cancun, she expected some crazy memories to end their final college days. What Emma didn’t expect was to meet Brandon Fisher. Tall and sexy, with dimples that would make any girl swoon, Brandon Fisher was literally the man of Emma’s dreams. She couldn’t quite believe that this stranger, who seduced her every night in her dreams, actually existed.

After serendipitously bumping into each other, Emma could not resist Brandon’s pull and spent an unforgettable night with him. Passing it off as a spring break fling, Emma never expected to see Brandon again. But when she started her first day at her new job a few months later, there he was. The only problem was, Brandon didn’t even remember her.

About this author

Jessica Wood writes new adult contemporary romance and chick-lit.

While she has lived in countless cities throughout the U.S., her heart belongs to San Francisco. To her, there’s something seductively romantic about the Golden Gate Bridge, the steep rolling hills of the city streets, the cable cars, and the Victorian-style architecture.

She loves a strong, masculine man with a witty personality. While she is headstrong and extremely independent, she can’t resist a man who takes control of the relationship, both outside and inside of the bedroom.

She loves to travel internationally, and tries to plan a yearly trip abroad. She also loves to cook and bake, and—to the benefit of her friends—she loves to share. She also enjoys ceramics and being creative with her hands. She has a weakness for good (maybe bad) TV shows; she’s up-to-date on over 25 current shows, and no, that wasn’t a joke.

And it goes without saying, she loves books—they’re like old and dear friends who have always been there to make her laugh and make her cry.

The one thing she wished she had more of is time.

First Kiss by Ann Marie Frohoff @rockinwriterchk #review

ENTER to win I am giving away five copies of both books in the series

First Kiss (A Heavy Influence Novel, #1) Well I am so sad to end this book. I will say BEST BOOK I have READ.When you write a review and think about a character for a day to decide what to write that is when it is EPIC. The blending of love, angst, hate and heart break was perfect. When you say this was a five star book it means something left a great impression on you, the characters spoke, the author had style and communicated the message perfectly. This was the case for me. Even though I gasped and cursed it is a sign that the message was there. What I loved was of course the main characters. You MUST read book 1 it is short and it pissed me off that it was short, but it was just a set-up for this book. I got done last night and I actually sat here thinking all day what to write. This was the best book. I hope you know I dont say that often but I was so touched by it. So Jake and Alyssa live next door to each other and were besties growing up and then things took off for Jake and his band. So they just passed each other and then BAM fate happens and they started to talk again. Should I tell you who else I loved? Ok I loved Rachel, yeah I know right? She was with Jake in a momentary lapse in judgement at the beginning of the book. Not giving a spoiler here. Anyways she is the girl you love to hate. I did hate her and I tried so hard to think what if I was in her shoes, desperately in love with Jake, helping him and the band for 2 years, and then sex, drama and no relationship. But I loved how the authors style made me sympathize and then totally hate her to the point I wanna stab her with a pencil repeatedly. Alyssa’s sister who is older, yes I was made me dislike her too. The Allison story was great once her reveal came. I was wondering why I just “didn’t like” as opposed to I hated her. Kyle was my dude. How he loved his sister and covered for her and let her see Jake, well it makes me wish I had a brother.    I loved the Nicole and Nadine- the dialogue the friendship. A girl needs best friends like that. I think of my girls in Brooklyn and we were/still like that. There were so many memories that came back when I was reading their little gossip fest topics. 5b804-jakeandallyimageforfkbookcover Marshall and Bobby were so good.Bobby in the band as well as Mike (grrr growling like a pitbull) and Dumpster aka Dump. All of them had the best supporting roles. Now there was Sienna too. She was Dump’s girl and Rachel’s bff. Now she was a BFF but there is a big BUT, she was so fair and called Rachel out on things. Dump did too, he was a neanderthal but to Sienna, OMG he loved her. Aly and Jake were so perfect. I could care less about the age difference. The sneaking around and the drama was great. Notting (English dude with a really strange name)and Kate were very complex too. Jakes Dad passed away a long time ago. His Mom and his manager “had a thing” but they never made anything big or official. It has to be read and discussed. The author is golden! She has so many fantastic tunes in the book and they are going to come out too. Squeals if delight! I loved the songs! I want it to be big. We have to do something to get the word out. I am doing my part for sure. So the last reason is the story of love, health, growing up and redemption. We all fall down and some of us dont get up for a while. Some of us bounce right back. The story of love is epic and one that must be read. I know people would dis agree, but sometimes you do find the one.I feel like I am babbling but I love Jake. 5 stars This is a passage and it shows the depth that I look for in a book: “The sun hung low, casting a hue of golden tones over everything it touched. It was a luminous late afternoon and the intense heat was finally subsiding. Staring at the water, I wanted to go swimming. I was overwhelmed with mixed emotions, and the water would be a soothing remedy. I felt drunk. Drunk love, was that what I was high on? Was I in love? Was this what being in love felt like? I was almost certain it was”   HOW long until the next book??? The Fall???

The Author extraordinaire:

ann marie frohoff 5211881

Ann Marie (“Annie”) Frohoff grew up in sunny Southern California. As a teen and young adult she spent her time frequenting and living in nearly every beachside city up and down the coast. She settled in Hollywood at 19 working in film and TV. Soon her itch to keep moving took over again, taking her to Hawaii for a time and then back to LA. She’s now settled in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. Her wanderlust and propensity to live life out loud has brought her many life experiences so many of us only dream about. Always the storyteller, it would be of no surprise to those who grew up with Annie, that she made the transition into a book and screenplay author. You could say that she woke up one day and had an epiphany, deciding to go to school for screenwriting. It’s with this inner fire she set out to write her first screenplay. Soon after, such work made it into the hands of an agency creative executive who challenged her to write a novel to support the complex ensemble cast of characters she’d created. Thus, after only a couple of years and many hours on the road immersing herself in her subject matter; her edgy modern day “Walk The Line meets John Hughes Classics” debut novella, SKID OUT, has been completed, along with the first installment in her Trilogy. SKID OUT is the prequel novella to the HEAVY INFLUENCE TRILOGY. The first installment in her Heavy Influence Trilogy, FIRST KISS, is set to release June 11th 2013 — The series is a story about young, reckless love between a rising rock star and his younger muse, spanning 10 years of their tumultuous and passionate relationship. Each book in the Trilogy will come with a soundtrack of original music, of which the lyrics will appear in the pages of the books. (Alternative Rock Genre). Annie has now also delved into the supernatural fantasy world with her writing partners Shaun Barger and songwriter/musician Matthew Reich. Taking inspiration directly from song lyrics and building an entire realm of vastly complex characters and plot lines; weaving history, fantasy and heavy doses of romance together. You will be kept turning the pages of “The Zodiac Wars: My Gemini” novellas and “Precious Metal: The Prince and the Gypsy” book series. Both series of books are currently in development.
